24.01.2022 This figure of * standing hip stretch can act as a transitional movement and you can flow into trikonasana, parsvakonasana, upavista konasana, pararita padottanasana and other standing asana from this movement. There are other yoga asana that be performed with one foot on the freeFORM Board.
20.01.2022 Dynamic range of motion using freeFORM Board. Notice the angles that the spine, hamstrings and adductors move through when using the board? Typically, there are... three or so variations to this wide legged forward bend in yoga but here, the hips and torso muscles are mobilized through so many more angles. The freeFORM Board is a real and legitimate addition to the yoga and stretching toolbox. This is one example among hundreds. See more
18.01.2022 "The spiritual industrial complex" I walked out of what was supposedly the best teaching gig in London for this exact reason, because the focus on mastering the skills of practice was simply not there. I then began teaching my own "Progressive Yoga COURSES" and I found it was so easy to take students on a journey towards some level of mastery of a practice that was extremely useful to them on so many levels. "Teaching asana as a yoga practice takes skill. It takes an unders...tanding of the body and an even greater understanding of the system of yoga, because this new thing we do, using the body as the tool for practice, is not that easy to fit into the context of traditional practice. It can happen, but it requires knowledge, training, practice and skill" https://americanyoga.school/the-colossal-failure-of-modern/

14.01.2022 I'm a little concerned about how scientists go about their research. I have seen first hand how they can ask the wrong questions and therefore come up with the wrong answers. Yoga offers such a broad and extensive range of techniques and it can be practiced and prescribed in so many ways that the scientists could easily be testing the wrong tool for the specific job. If we look at yoga from a physical fitness perspective, we can structure a class to be an aerobic workout, a s...trength workout, a balance and motor control workout and of course a flexibility workout. We can structure a class to stimulate the sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system. This can impact depression or anxiety. If people have circulation issues in their lower limbs, inversions will help that. Similarly, Pranayama is not one technique but an entire toolbox of techniques. I've read research that hyperventilation or over-breathing can trigger an asthma attack as it is one way the body can reduce the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream. Some forms of pranayama increase blood oxydisation and some reduce it. There is also the issue of HOW you perform WHICH technique. When you then consider the relationship between yoga and Ayurveda, the kriyas and cleansing techniques and so on, you realise that yoga cannot be reduced to a black box, one size fits all, simplistic definition. So when I hear that "Yoga does not contribute to the treatment of..." The first question that comes to mind is, "What yoga techniques were prescribed?" How, when and why? The next question to ask would be that if yoga can contribute to positive interventions, how does it fit into a broader toolbox of interventions including diet, medication, social support and the even broader toolbox of techniques that can assist with any health related issue?
