24.01.2022 Wings out West competition places. A couple of places have come available for the tow competition at Trundle starting March 9 due to some registered pilots now not being able to make it. Pilots on the waiting list have been advised, so now it's first in best dressed. wingsoutwest.org

23.01.2022 Extra Safari I have just set some dates for another Safari in late Feb 2018. 23rd thru to March 1. It is aimed more towards pilots with lower PB's at present with not so much XC experience. A few names down already, but places are available, 'first in best dressed'.... Planned be some females on this trip, and being just prior to another Womens training session here at Dubbo with Kirsten, it could be a great time for more women to join in. See more

23.01.2022 Just wrapping up the first Safari for the season, great crew and great weather. Final day goal, after a few 200km days, was decided to be an 84km head wind challenge back to the farm base. Rohan flew fantastically to get in in just over 5hrs, well done. Tim still in the air punching forward hoping for that great end of day glide to make it in.

21.01.2022 I would like to say thank you for all the support, kind words, thoughts and prayers from so many people over the last few days through the unfortunate event that resulted in the loss of a great man and friend in Pierre Naville. So much more than I was to keep up with in replies. It was a challenging and emotional time, but it did all go like clockwork with great co-operation with all the involved parties, who we all thank imensly for their assistance. We do all hold a little ...comfort for ourselves in the knowledge that there was nothing we could have done differently to change the outcome, albeit a very small consolation. A very big thank you also to the community of Ivanhoe who showed such open generosity in simple ways, again reinforcing my belief in the chasm (generally speaking) that has developed in the culture between country and city lifestyles. It has always been, and will continue to be, one of the most rewarding parts of these Safari trips for me, bringing people out west from the coast and abroad to see and experience a little of the culture that is our heritage here in Australia, slowly being lost in our modern very (too) comfortable lives. Great time to reflect on what is really important in life. See more

21.01.2022 Out on the road again. 5 pilots in a great sky, tracking ENE on day one of a 4 day Safari

19.01.2022 2018 / 2019 Season With a new XC season on our doorstep, thought I'd give an update 're the potential for any previous and new pilots who maybe interested in flying the flatlands of NSW (and further afield) via a Safari trip this season. This year's interest has been greater than any previous, again with a big percentage of repeat group's/pilots as per previous years. Gaining more international interest as time goes on also, so with limited ability and desire to do more than ...a comfortable No of Safaris each season (wanting to keep it fresh and personal), opportunities to join may become more difficult. While nearly all available time slots have an organised 'group' against them already for most of the season, there still is the potential for individual pilots to be aligned with a group if they are a match (experience and expectations). One of these group's is a high achievers group in the first 2 weeks of Dec that includes Charles and Seiko wanting to go for 'the big one' if the day presents itself, otherwise just enjoying flying the Aussie out back and all the experiences a flying Safari provides, guiding others also. There is the possibility of joining for either of the weeks at this stage, otherwise for the whole period. This Safari will have 2 vehicles running, both fully equipped with winches and set to go where ever we want. Don't need to tell you all it's been very dry out west (and most places), so anticipating a good season for flying, albeit it devastating one for so many in our playground. Get in touch for more details if your interested. Boat towing for SIV instruction by various instructors, and independent group's of pilots wanting to brush up on their pre taught skills over water has also has increased greatly over the last 12 months, generally happening at both ends of the season, but not exclusively. Venues are in NSW and Vic. Cheers Phillip

18.01.2022 Potential FAR WEST NSW Safari With the new flying season fast approaching, its been time to more formally sort my Safari calender again, slottting enquiries into bookings, all to realise there are not many gaps left in a program (pre Christmas at least) thats intended to be "less full" than the last couple of seasons for some "balance". Essentially repeat groups have taken the lions share, its great getting to spend time again with friends :) , all chasing those expanded PB goals. So, with limited time options available, it has been requested to go for a Safari out into some newer teritory in far western NSW (Back 'o Bourke) in late Oct / early Nov. We are looking for enough interested pilots to make up a group, so get in contact if your keen, and we can work on pulling a plan together.

17.01.2022 Flatlands "House thermal" :)

17.01.2022 Safari places A couple of places are available on a 4 to 5 day Safari starting Oct 29th untill around Nov 2nd. These are the only places available in what is otherwise a fully booked schedule untill March. And as you should expect, it's very dry out west, so expect a bird's eye view of a pretty barren landscape that has a beauty all of its own.

15.01.2022 A good contact to have in your phone! Today we had an accidental push of an SOS on a DELORME. It took a little while including a few calls to try to circumvent an emergency response, making me realise I was a little unprepared in this area. I did some research this arvo and spoke to the SAR office in Canberra being advised that this is the best number to contact them 24/7 as they deal directly with the advice coming back from the US after a SOS activation. 02 62306899... SAVE IT, NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL NEED IT! Search and Rescue Canberra, or more correctly Australian Maritime Safety Authority Don't ring 000, if it's a false alarm, THEY WILL KNOW NOTHING. The person I spoke to was very happy I made contact and greatly appreciated the pro active approach, and stressed the importance to make sure we all use the tracking function.

13.01.2022 Back out and about again for a new season. Great to be back in the bush camping out. Flying our way back from Conargo to Dubbo on the SW winds over a few days after getting in behind the recent big weather system and a cold front that brought some of the coolest flying conditions I have experienced in Aust. Goal for the day is to land back at home base.

12.01.2022 Due to the amount of interest created from our towing trip out to the Alice Springs area this last October, we are starting a list of interested pilots for consideration of a repeat trip this coming October. Message me if your interested so we can put your name on a list. Cheers

12.01.2022 What a way to cap off such a hectic few months rounding out 2017. Laura married today with her great friend, loving sister as her maid of honour. Special times for me.

11.01.2022 Well, the 2018/19 Safari season has been done and dusted for a few weeks now, being the biggest and most taxing year to date for myself due to many reasons. It was however a real pleasure to finish off with an all female mini safari organised by Kirsten Seeto who is doing a great job encouraging the minority half in the sport of paragliding with her 'Altitude with Atitude' events. Couldn't help myself but share the link to the article Kirsten has written about the time the girls had together, as its really well done, and the photos included are a selection of a huge range of great photos taken y professional photographer Jaimi Joy w(ho came along too. Here a a few extracts to entice a view :) https://medium.com//women-with-grit-and-bindis-67783c4ccf0a

11.01.2022 There will be a group towing out of Dubbo this coming weekend, Sat to Mon (Feb 24 -26). Tows also available for any others interested in doing some more flatland XC.

10.01.2022 First night out on the first Safari for the season. Managed to find a water hole with some water still in it, albeit quiet a bit less than the last time I was here. Still a great camp spot tho.

07.01.2022 The big 2017 / 18 season has just wound up this last few days with the last SIV at Burrendong with Rafa from Skysurf. Great weather yet again, more high tows, lots of "happy campers" (staying in great accomodation) and capping it off with a relaxed day of our own towing over the lake, just to end up with another unplanned swim myself after a wind up. Oh well, thats why we are there I suppose. Next SIV is planned for Nov with Brian Webb, so a little rest time for the boats:) N...ext season is looking even busier than last, with heavy bookings already for SIV's and the Safari's, not many gaps available at all now thru the season. International bookings increasing also as people hear about the adventures to be had, so much maintenance and preporation underway as the next season will be here soon enough, especially with a bit of fying time away myself in the Aussie off season fast approaching. Thanks to all and sundry for your input, support, assistance and encouragement over last last season and longer as I have let the services I offer evolve steadily to where they are now. I get great pleasure seeing people having great times and gaining new and improved skills nearly every day we are out there. See some of you again next season, cheers Phillip See more

04.01.2022 We all have friends, and its times like these when we need them most. For those who don't know Alex, or as yet have not heard, Alex recently had a bad accident on take off in Pakistan and needs to get back to Aussie asap for more medical needs. Financially, assistance over and above what the insurance covers is required to make it happen quickly, and the paragliding community is rallying behind him to make it happen. Please assist if your able to. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex, his family, closest friends and all involved with his care at this time.

03.01.2022 Great to get a little more air time myself this arvo. XC season not over yet, couldn't resist a great looking sky so organised a tow at short notice this arvo and had a great flight north towards the Warrumbungles. Nice clouds to hop from one to another with relative ease, had trouble getting down into Gilgandra to meet an arranged lift, what a waste. Need to fly fully equipped for camping out next time and turn it into twice the adventure :)

03.01.2022 SIV's are back :) Great to have water back in Burrendong again, after it got down to below 1%. Over 40 now, and rising, so more than enough to get back into SIV's Take a look at Rafael's website for dates. SkySurf Paragliding.

03.01.2022 FANTASTIC FRIDAY After a great fast Friday, the 2 new PB'ers arrive back at base in Dubbo, after another great water side campsite found in transit late yesterday. Stephen did 280 pin drop, while Cath did 134 on her A. Good northerly, with ideal wind gradient, over 3000m base so while forward launches were required in the cycles, ground speeds of 90km/hr at altitude were around. Never looked threating on the ground all day for landing, with both landings being vertical only. ...After needing to wait till 1pm to launch, Stephen managed to average over 50km/hr for the flight, while Cath averaged over 42km/hr with some great flying. Well done guys! Both currently very happy wih their current rankings on XContest See more

01.01.2022 SIV season again. Oh how time flies. Providing towing again for Rafa and Brian Webb's SIV's over the coming months, so get in touch with them if your interested, limited places still available. Rafa's are done in NSW, Brians in Victoria, with a focus on being within wasy drive distance of the major centres, and running primarily over a weekend to minimise lost work days. First is this coming weekend with Rafa, another on the 21st/22nd of this month followed by one a month for the next few months. Brian has his first scheduled for the last weekend of this month, with follow-ups planned also.

01.01.2022 SIV towing Due to the on going dry conditions and very low inflows into most dams in an extended region, it has verified the anticipated that limited opportunity (with safety a priority) is available to run SIVs this Autumn. The only session that I am involved with at this stage is one down in Victoria in early May, so if you have any interest, get in touch with Brian Webb as there are still places available. Here's hoping, for many more important reasons than our benefit, that we receive good rain before too much longer.
