24.01.2022 Employee of the week Pat busy doing the menial, but highly important, job of cleaning barrels.

24.01.2022 So the lockdown of Melbourne and Mitchell Shire threw a spanner in the works for our upcoming Member’s Lunches... Luckily, all our southern lockdown friends have transferred their bookings to future lunch dates, meaning we now have seats available for our lucky country/non-lockdown members at the August lunches. If you are from the non-lockdown areas (smelling the sweet clean air of the country) and missed out on booking when we first released the lunches, please follow the l...ink in our bio to book now or follow this link: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/james-flynn-wine-club-lunch. For those in lock down (stuck drinking Flynn’s Wines at home), we hope you’re keen to put a date in the diary for an escape up to Heathcote post lock down. We’ve now opened bookings for future lunches, with limited availability in September and October. Move quickly... November is already sold out. Cheers

24.01.2022 Members and Friends of Flynn’s in lockdown in Melbourne or Mitchell Shire, please take note! Tag a mate that’s good at this #flynnswines #lockdownworkout

21.01.2022 Well vintage has commenced. Not much of a vintage, it’s been a rough year grape wise all round. What is coming through is looking good though. Good to be back in the winery and was great having Zoe and Bonnie giving a helping hand with the first of the shiraz.

20.01.2022 NEW WHITES NOW RELEASED. We have released our 2020 vintage of Verdelho and Vermintino and we couldn’t be happier with it. Some lucky members have already got their hands on it and have given us glowing reviews. For those that haven’t tried this drop yet, you can order them both now on our website.

20.01.2022 Our website has had a makeover! If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure to check it out via the link in our bio or going to www.flynnswines.com. A big thank you to the team at High Voltage Studio for their fantastic website building skills.

19.01.2022 A few weeks ago the vines were pruned... and it was just in time! The rapid change to spring has the buds swelling and ready to burst into leaf already. Pruning is an important job in the vineyard, which effects the next vintage. The vines are pruned to a certain amount of buds, which determines the number of canes that grow and resultant quantity of grapes. With this years winter providing good rain fall (for the first time in years) we are so happy to replenish much needed ...subsoil moisture and have full dams to use over summer. The grass is green and the fruit trees in the garden are laden with developing citrus. All signs point to a good vintage for 2021.

19.01.2022 Ahhh the romance of vineyard ownership... The spray suit not exactly the height of fashion, but it goes nicely with the orange tractor (note the twine holding the grill on). Today, Greg is getting a sulphur spray on the new buds and leaves to protect them from blister mites, which can overwinter in the buds and create blisters on the forming leaves. He will definitely need a wine after today’s work

17.01.2022 Our Flynns 2020 vintage presented us with an opportunity to bring back our Carménère, for the second time! You may remember this varietal (pronounced: kahr-meh-NEHR) from our 2016 vintage, a popular drop for our Members, selling out within a week of being released! Our 2020, 100% Heathcote Carménère vintage is a small one from a quantity perspective, but is looking great on the quality front. Many of you will remember the romantic global Carménère story. History tells us, t...he Carménère grape is a wine grape variety originally planted in the Médoc region of Bordeaux and thought to be a distant relative of Cabernet Sauvignon. From the late 1860’s, when the phylloxera plague decimated Europe’s vineyards, including Bordeaux. It was thought to be extinct until genetic testing revealed many growers in Chile had preserved it. The Carménère red grape is the Chilean red wine of choice and its popularity in South America sees it found all over Chile, throughout Peru and parts of Bolivia, Uruguay and Argentina. The 2020 Flynns Carménère will be made as a medium to full bodied red with a herbal edge. Often featuring red and black berry flavours, it will match well with roasted meats, hearty smoked bacons, cheeses, olives and darker leafy greens.

17.01.2022 Another day with the grapes. Michael Catlow threw a helping hand in. Best part of vintage is the striking colours and textures, along with the smells as each ferment graduates to its next stage.

16.01.2022 Ever wondered what one of Greg’s favourite days of the year looks like? Greg isn’t just thirsty in this photo... this is a photo of blending and barrel tasting! On this particular day, there were 26 wines in the line up. Each barrel was tasted, some were then blended and bottled straight away, while others, like the James Flynn Premium Shiraz, were blended and put into new oak for a few more years.... Unfortunately, he had to spit every taste so he could still pick the kids up from the bus stop later that day

15.01.2022 Our 2020 vintage features a new wine... Sagrantino. An Italian grape variety, indigenous to the region of Umbria in Central Italy. On the palette, it’s a full-bodied red, with fruity, spicy flavours that will have fine structure. These grapes create wines that are deep in colour, generally inky purple with a dark centre. It will be in oak for 18+ months, but we look forward to sharing it with you once available.

14.01.2022 Spring has sprung, the blossoms are out. The chooks are laying plenty of eggs. And best of all the grapefruit, oranges and lemon trees are loaded with developing fruit. Looking good for grape harvest this year. Hopefully a bountiful vintage. @ Flynns Wines Heathcote

14.01.2022 We are in the thick of vintage at the moment, but right before the grapes are picked we have our girl, Pip Flynn, guarding the vines

14.01.2022 We apologise but we will be closed Heathcote on Show weekend and ongoing at this stage due to family illness. All of our wines will be on tasting at our sister business Heathcote Wine Hub with over 24 wines on tasting, food and live music! Enjoy the weekend!

13.01.2022 A few new varieties for Flynn’s this vintage. Carmenere is a Chilean wine dating back to ancient Bordeaux days. Thought to be extinct it has resurfaced and is energising the Australian wine industry with its earthy fruity tones. Beautifully paired with antipasto or pasta it’s one to look out for. Sagrantino is an Italian wine, indiginous to Umbria in Central Italy. It has a fruity, spicy flavour with a full bodied structure. Looks to be a magic addition to the 2020 vintage.

13.01.2022 Thank you for the overwhelming response to the Member’s lunches. 11.01.2022 Long time wine member, Kevin, reached out to let us know the 2013 James Flynn Premium Shiraz is magnificent! He was enjoying it on the banks of the Murray River after a day of catching Murray Cod! Don’t forget to tag @flynnswines in your photos when enjoying one of our drops!

09.01.2022 Throughout September, we welcomed life and colour returning to the vines after winter! Bud burst is an important part of the vines annual cycle. This year was slightly earlier compared to previous, due to the strong on set of spring temperatures and consistent good rain falls contributing to a moist subsoil. The Sangiovese vines, as normal, were a week or two ahead of the Shiraz grapes. All vines are thriving with the rains and warmer days.

07.01.2022 There were many isolation cooking stories in 2020 and here is one that was too good not to share! While having a tasting at the vineyard early last year with long time James Flynn Wine Club (JFWC) member's Steve, Monique and Rowan Anglicas... I mentioned we used some oak staves during the early stages of a white wine vintage. As avid cooks, with particular interest in smoking meats, they took the opportunity to utilise the staves for their next smoke up! Flynns was not only ...called upon for the staves in this cook For the first four hours, their beef cheeks were submerged in a Flynns 2018 Sangiovese prior to cooking in the smoker, with the oak staves being continuously added after each burned off. You can almost smell the wine circulating through the smoker from here! The Beef Cheeks were in the smoker for around 10 hours and upon opening the smoker, the wine had all cooked off and evaporated! Rowan and Monique said the oak staves provided an amazing wine taste throughout the meat too, describing the feast as divine and mouth-watering. If you have any cooking or food/wine matching stories using Flynns please email Greg at [email protected] or tag us on Facebook or Instagram @flynnswines!

07.01.2022 We still have some spots free for our upcoming wine club lunch on 27th March! Book now via the link in our bio or via this link: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/james-flynn-wine-club-lunch Or if easier call Greg or Michael directly. ... We also have other dates available in April, May and July! We can organise your groups accommodation and transport, so you’ll be able to have a relaxed day with barrel tastings, a vineyard walk, great food and wine pairings... and fantastic company! We look forward to seeing you at the winery soon!

06.01.2022 Last chance to make Dad happy this weekend! Get your orders in now via our website to guarantee delivery before Father’s Day. And Dads, if your reading this... maybe send this post to your kids to remind them that Flynns Wines is a better choice than socks or jocks this Father’s Day!

05.01.2022 Please could you email [email protected] if you have any questions we can help with... Thank you.

03.01.2022 As you can’t be with Dad this Father’s Days, I have a couple of unique gifts that you can share with him in the near future... James Flynn Shiraz 2016 or a Magnum of MC Shiraz 2015. I only made 50 dozen bottles of the James Flynn Shiraz 2016 vintage. It is a big luscious full bodied Heathcote Shiraz (think slow cooked lamb shanks). Or perhaps Dad deserves something bigger... a Magnum! The MC Shiraz Magnum 2015 vintage is another beautiful Heathcote wine of which only 145 were... hand bottled and individually numbered at the winery. Both bottles come beautifully wrapped with a dedicated Father's Day gift tag with tasting notes, delivered free of charge. www.flynnswines.com

02.01.2022 The last of the beautiful Autumn leaves on the vines!
