25.01.2022 Chuck Yeager - the first person to break the sound barrier, died today at the age of 97. An incredible test pilot but a man of few words. But some words he uttered were profound :

24.01.2022 WE’RE BACK !!!!!! In preparation for a return to hosting Activity Days, our volunteers had a full day training session today on CovidSafe procedures. Fully customised procedures developed by the AAC and approved by Scouts NSW, were ‘road tested’ and walked through today. We believe we have a robust plan for delivering safe and fun Activity Days with our first Scout group scheduled to visit next Sunday ! It was great to see so many of our regular and more recent volunteers t...oday, all eager to see a return to delivering fantastic Air Activity Days for our visiting Scout groups. Our volunteer members also got a treat today from past AAC student pilot and now Qantas 787 check Captain, Sean Golding, giving us some insights and behind the scenes anecdotes on his record breaking non-stop New York to Sydney flight last year. Also, another of our past AAC student pilots and now Flight Instructor, Steve Harvey, gave us a great briefing on ‘Precautionary Search and Landing’ procedures. BRAVO to Greg, Leon and Mark for developing our CovidSafe protocols, to Steve for keeping our pilots current and particularly to our guest speaker, Sean for giving us insights into what it takes to push the frontiers of global flight !

24.01.2022 Digging into the archives - can anyone put names to faces.....and location ?

22.01.2022 Could Narromine become home to the oldest and newest flyable aircraft designs in Australia ? The all Australian AMSL Aero ‘Vertiia’ is an all electric VTOL autonomous aircraft capable of holding six people and flying at up to 300kmh with a range of 250km. AMSL Aero is targeting 2021 for completion of testing and commencement of commercial production of the Vertiia. Stay tuned ! Of course, Narromine in central west NSW is also home to a model A Wright Flyer replica, meticulou...sly built from the original drawings, flown by the late Col Pay and witnessed by astronaut Buzz Aldrin ! Take a look at Col Pay’s flight of the Model A Wright Flyer here : https://youtu.be/O-2YuIK6U9c

22.01.2022 What about this one - any names, date and location ??

20.01.2022 Another successful AIR VENTURE ! Even in these troubling times the AAC and our terrific training partner, Altocap Flight School found a responsible way to host another Air Venture introductory flying ‘camp’ for Venturer Scouts last week. Three ab-initio students enjoyed clear winter conditions for five hours of hands-on flying training and a thorough introduction to the world of aviation by qualified Scout instructors. The three day ‘camp’ did not include overnight stays and ...proved to be an effective model to consider for future Air Ventures. A big Bravo to Altocap, our instructors, volunteers and particularly Rolf, our Flying Camp Coordinator for working through all of the additional requirements and making it happen !

19.01.2022 .......and ANOTHER !!! Following hot on the heels of William M. on Friday, Max D. from 1st Clovelly Venturer unit flew his FIRST SOLO yesterday. Bravo and congratulations to Max for achieving this fantastic milestone you will always remember ! Thanks to Altocap Flight School for sharing the Scouts AAC vision of encouraging youth into aviation.

17.01.2022 A new year.......and another two AAC pilots have signed up to become instructors !! Greg and Rolf are currently staff pilots with the AAC but have now commenced their journey to also become flying instructors ! Interestingly, our fantastic partnership with Altocap Flight School has seen not just a steady increase in Scouting ab-initio students, but also a significant number of our members add to their existing flight ratings and endorsements over the past few years.... Bravooo to Greg and Rolf on commencing your instructor journey and we look forward to seeing you in the right hand seat soon !

11.01.2022 The AAC may not be hosting Activity Days at present but our members have still been very active. New kitchen cabinets donated by Bunning’s, benchtops donated by one of our wonderful Scout instructors, Rakend, new floor coverings, tapware etc and all installed for free by our terrific volunteers Rod, Gary and a bunch of helpers - all maintaining their distance of course. In the meantime a new vinyl covering went onto the desk in the Nepean hut, lots of fresh paint going on ins...ide and out, and even the garden has had a makeover ! Our members have been regularly meeting socially via Zoom video calls and frequent chats held via our ‘Team App’. Flying training and pilot checks have continued with some modifications and some of our members have used the downtime to further their piloting qualification goals. Be assured when the AAC gets approval to recommence we will be more than ready and our band of dedicated volunteers will be delighted to once again welcome visiting groups.

10.01.2022 The modified Air Venture ‘day-only’ camp structure, once again has proved a big hit with another three Venturers successfully completing the introductory flying program ! Bravo to Aidan, Aston and Adam for your diligence and maturity during the program and also Bravo to Altocap, our Scout instructors and volunteers for delivering the modified program in these challenging times. We look forward to welcoming the ‘A team’ - Aidan, Aston and Adam back to the AAC soon if they wish to further their flight training !

10.01.2022 Yes, we’ve had to cancel some recent activity days due to weather, but our heart goes out to those badly affected by the floods. Here are some pics from one of our Scout instructors - Warragamba Dam spilling and the Nepean River at the entrance to Camden Airport.

08.01.2022 Another First Solo !!! Bravo and congratulations to William M. from 1st Kooringal Venturers (Wagga Wagga) for achieving this most memorable of achievements last Friday. William has worked long and hard to save the money for his flying lessons and has soaked up every opportunity to learn and follow his passion for aviation. Bravo also to the terrific Scout instructors with Altocap Flight School for guiding William on his piloting journey.

07.01.2022 Continuing the retro theme - can anyone identify this location(s) and event ?

07.01.2022 The venerable Cessna C172 turned 65 years old this week ! Not that much has changed since the 'Land-o-Matic' C172 first flew in 1955. VH-SNU is the oldest C172 currently flying in Australia and doesn't look all that much different to the 'current' model VH-CFI flown by Scouts. Globally, more pilots have gained their wings in a C172 than any other aeroplane......and they still land automatically - well almost !!

04.01.2022 Scouts visit the tower in the '70's

03.01.2022 Farewell to the last Qantas B747 leaving Australian skies for the very last time today.....and leaving behind a distinctive flight trace. Some of our members have very fond memories of either being at the controls or maintaining the controls of the Queen of the Skies. Bon Voyage B744 and thank you for some wonderful memories.

02.01.2022 You may recall Torsten J. achieved his 1st Solo flight on 22 March this year. Well, Torsten has studied hard, demonstrated an abundance of patience and discipline, and last week was suitably rewarded by gaining his Recreational Pilot's Licence ! Bravooo to you Torsten and also a big thankyou to the dedicated instructors with Altocap Flight School.

02.01.2022 OK, AAC old-timers - anybody know when and where this was ??

01.01.2022 Thank you to 1st Shellharbour !! It was an absolute delight to host you for one of our first Air Activity Days for 2021 - which went without a hitch. Our approved COVIDsafe plan presently only allows a single group to visit the AAC at a time and our volunteer staff are required to follow strict sanitation and cleaning procedures before and after each flight. We understand 1st Shellharbour had their booking postponed three times because of the COVID shutdown and so we are e...xtra pleased they had a great day ! Of note is a 1st Shellharbour Venturer now learning to fly with the AAC after first attending an Air Activity Day as a Scout. Bravo to you for taking up the challenge !!
