13.01.2022 Mount Beauty airport in Victoria's high country benefited from a $1.5 million grant in Round One of the RAP. (Steve Hitchen) Mount Beauty airport in Victoria's high country benefited from a $1.5 million grant in Round One of the RAP. (Steve Hitchen) Federal Government opens Round Two of RAP 6 November 2020 Comments 0 Comments... The Federal Government opened Round Two of the Regional Airports Program (RAP) earlier this week. Applications for grants opened on 3 November and will close on 15 December, with $58.8 million on the table for regional airports. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the latest funding would continue to assist regional airports to complete essential upgrades. Regional airports provide a vital link for regional communities, facilitating the delivery of essential goods and services such as food supplies, health care and passenger air services, McCormack said. Our commitment of $100 million over four years from 2019-2020 to 2022-23 will ensure the owners and operators of regional airports can deliver improved safety and capability, including upgraded runways, taxiways, as well as new fencing, navigational aids and lighting. Grants for Round One of the RAP were approved in June this year, with $41.2 million being allocated towards 61 projects at regional airports. For Round Two, the government has changed the guidelines so that small local government and Indigenous corporations with projects of $300,000 or less can now seek funding for 100% of eligible project costs. The Regional Airports Program is open to any airport classified as inner or outer regional on the Australian Statistical Geography Standard.
