23.01.2022 "BACKPACKER TAX" - Passes through the House of Representatives without amendment. Are you currently travelling around Australia or know of someone travelling around Australia? Make sure they see a tax agent to understand what they need to do for their tax affairs whilst in Australia. From 1 January 2017, the Government has announced it will set the tax rate applying to working holiday makers at 19% on earnings up to $37,000, rather than the 32.5% announced in the 2015-2016 Bu...dget, with ordinary marginal tax rates applying after that. The Government will also reduce the application charge for working holiday maker visas by $50 to $390. These changes will lower the cost of coming to Australia for working holiday makers and leave them with more money in their pockets to spend while here.

16.01.2022 Reminder : 1 October tax rates changes The Government has increased the 32.5% tax threshold from $37,001-$80,000 to $37,001-$87,000. What does this mean for Employers?... The tax tables have changed for employees who earn over $80,000. The new tax tables are effective from 1 October 2016. You dont need to make any other adjustments or refunds as the ATO will refund any over-payment of tax when your employees (and payees) lodge their 2016-17 income tax return. Still dont understand? Contact our friendly team of accountants on 02 9540 6888 to answer any questions you have.

15.01.2022 FBT - Changes to treatment of reportable fringe benefits (RFBA) Changes have been made to how reportable fringe benefits amounts (RFBA) are treated for family assistance and youth income support payments. The change means that the Department of Human Services (DHS) will use 100% of the RFBA reported by a person on their income tax return, instead of adjusting the amount to 51%, unless you work for certain non-profit organisations. Employees impacted need to update their income details now with the DHS to ensure they get their correct entitlement to any Australian Government payments they receive.
