25.01.2022 Happy International Volunteer Managers Day! #IMVDAY20 Our CEO, Evelyn O'Loughlin said this annual day recognises the backbone support of people who manage volun...teer programs within their communities. "Volunteer managers and leaders ensure volunteers are volunteering safely and are working effectively in their roles they provide support, guidance and highlight the great work that volunteers do, said Evelyn. Volunteer management as a professional role was first recognised in 1999 and IVMD was formalised in 2006. People who help co-ordinate volunteers have a very unique role while the manager themselves can be paid or unpaid they are dealing with a varied set of workers who are working from a place of passion. This year's theme for International Volunteer Managers Day is "What's Next?" It's a simple question volunteer managers have been dealing with, thanks to challenges and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. Please tag a volunteer manager in the comments below to say THANK YOU and ask them, ‘what’s next?’ Post pics of your celebrations today and don’t forget to use #IMVDAY20 #SAvolunteer #volunteermanager #contactus #heretohelp #volunteeringmatters #volunteeringisfun #communitysupport #worktogether #industryexperts #volunteerwork #volunteerism #volunteering #southaustralia #sagreat #volunteering #volunteeringmatters #spiritofvolunteering #notforprofit #communityorganization

21.01.2022 Mental Health Week Every person, every community. Mental Health Week is an annual, national event that aims to improve community awareness and interest in mental health and wellbeing. In 2020, South Australia’s Mental Health Week will run from 10-17 October. Every person, every community... Mental Health Week is an opportunity to have conversations with your friends, family and community about mental health and wellbeing. My Community Here are some simple suggestions for supporting your community’s wellbeing: Cook meals for your friends when they’re experiencing a difficult time Check in on a neighbour or family member who isn’t doing so well Invite a friend for a walk, cup of coffee or something they enjoy doing Find out more about what it’s like to live with mental illness from people who share their experiences through articles, books, films, podcasts, or mindshare website Listen to your loved one’s insights into their own mental health challenges Volunteer for a local service, or activities that improve your community’s wellbeing Practice kindness and empathy Please note: For some people, the thought of having a ‘mental health’ conversation may be off-putting. The RUOK website has great information on how to start off and have a mental health conversation. Everyone’s mental health and wellbeing is important. You can help look after your wellbeing by: Getting enough sleep Eating regularly and healthily Exercising Reducing alcohol consumption Spending quality time with loved ones or people whose company you enjoy Learning ways to manage stress Actively managing your use of electronic devices and consumption of social media Finding time for things you enjoy such, such as outdoor and creative activities or learning a new skill Having a laugh! Here are some ways you can seek support when you need it: Talk to someone you trust Join a support group, such as Grow SA or your local Men’s Shed If you are a young person, visit a headspace centre in your area for free Chat with someone who’s faced their own mental health challenges via the Lived Experience Telephone Support Service 1800 013 755, or Skylight 1800 022 020 To connect with First Nations controlled services, check out Nunkuwarrin Yunti of South Australia If English is not your first language, call ASKPEACE on (08) 8245 8110 Visit any of the following websites for great resources on mental health and wellbeing: o Beyond Blue o ReachOut o Sane Australia o Black Dog Institute o R U Ok? o Mindshare Reach out to the SA COVID-19 Mental Health Line on 1800 632 753 Visit our COVID-19 Mental Health Support website Call Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

16.01.2022 In World War 1 over 416,000 men and women enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). 34,959 South Australian's were part of this total. In World War 2 there were 433,101 volunteers, this time 54,660 and 1049 from the Northern Territory*. All of these men and women were volunteers. To put this in perspective, the seating capacity in Adelaide oval is 53,500, the South Australian numbers alone could fill the oval almost twice. We remember all Australian's who have fallen ...in all wars and armed conflicts everyday however today we pause for a minute of silence to reflect on their bravery, their sacrifice and determination showed by these courageous men and women. We will remember them. Lest We Forget. *Statistics from the Australian War Memorial Website https://www.awm.gov.au/ #heretohelp #volunteeringmatters #volunteeringisfun #communitysupport #worktogether #industryexperts #volunteerwork #SAvolunteer #volunteerism #volunteering #southaustralia #sagreat #remembranceday #rememberanceday #lestweforget2020 #volunteeringNT #lestweforget #wewillrememberthem #wewillrememberinnovember See more

14.01.2022 IMPORTANT COVID-19 TESTING INFORMATION Please only attend a COVID-19 testing site if you have COVID-19 symptoms OR have been instructed to get tested by SA Heal...th. Visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidcontacttracing to find out if you are impacted by the Parafield Cluster AND are required to get tested. We are working hard to extend operating hours of clinics and put on more staff. If you need to get tested: Please be patient with staff who are working hard to organise logistics and collect samples. Be prepared for delays by bringing water and snacks. If you are attending a walk-in site, bring sun protection (sunscreen, hat, umbrella) and a chair. Keep 1.5 metres between yourself and others in line and wear a mask if possible. Do not take other people with you to get tested, other than those you need to care for. Motorists are reminded to not queue across intersections, ensure that you leave enough distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you, drive slowly through the testing sites and ensure you have enough fuel if waiting in line at a drive-through clinic. After your test: Go straight home. Avoid contact with other people. Stay in self-isolation until you receive a negative test result (in certain cases you may be required to remain in self-isolation or self-quarantine if directed to do so by SA Health or SA Police, even if you receive a negative test result). Information on how to self-isolate/self-quarantine: www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidisoadvice If you are well but worried, contact the SA COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line on 1800 632 753

12.01.2022 From this Thursday 24 September, the border restriction with New South Wales will be lifted. This means people entering South Australia from New South Wales fr...om that date will no longer need to quarantine for 14 days. People currently in quarantine and people arriving between now and midnight tomorrow will still have to complete the full 14 day quarantine period. This is because people who have arrived in the preceding 14 days present a different health risk. E.g. If you arrive tomorrow, 23 September, you will need to remain in quarantine until 6 October. E.g. If you have been in quarantine since 14 September, you will need to remain in quarantine until 29 September.
