22.01.2022 Great post by @cambridgephysiotherapy: "WHY TELEHEALTH?" Physiotherapy doesnt just consist of hands on treatment. In fact, most treatments involve education, advice and exercise prescription for the longer term benefit. This is important to remember during the Covid-19 pandemic, as Telehealth (phone or video calling) is currently the means of communication with our new and current patients.... Telehealth has shown to be just as effective, if not more effective than face to face consults, and has been used by Physiotherapists nationally and internationally for a number of years now. Some benefits reported by Physiotherapy New Zealand since 2016 include: - Better access to patients remotely - More convenient - Faster access - Access to high quality online resources - Exercise prescription apps allowing progress tracking - Safe and local alternative - Earlier guidance To book a Telehealth consult contact me on 0447 078 346. 22.01.2022 Do you suffer from a tight neck or sore shoulders following periods of computer work? Many people have been working or learning remotely at home during the pandemic and I have found that a number of people have been coming into the clinic complaining of posture related muscle pain. Below are some excellent desk based exercises and stretches from Jean Hailes with the aim of easing some of your posture related discomfort. ... As always your best posture is your next posture so remember to get up, move around and reposition yourself if completing long periods of desk work.

21.01.2022 THANK YOU! As almost a year in business begins to draw near I wanted to express how grateful I am for the support that I have received since moving to the district and opening up FM Physio! I have been very busy lately and I attribute it to the excellent word of mouth referral network that seems to be happening across all locations. Im absolutely thrilled to hear the kind words that filter back to me. ... As you may have noticed I have been experiencing a shortage of available appointments lately with my appointment book being filled weeks in advance across the 3 locations. I have recently begun opening on Tuesdays in Moura to try and meet this increased demand as an interim measure. May I ask that you be patient with me during this period whilst I try to find spaces to fit everyone. The following points are a few important things to keep in mind: Please attend your appointment 10 minutes early if you are a new patient, this ensures there is adequate time for you to complete paperwork prior to your appointment time; If you are a returning patient please attend your appointment on time; If you have an appointment that you no longer need or you are unable to attend, where possible please provide suitable notice. I have a running cancellation list and those people will be contacted if an adequate amount of time is provided for a cancellation; If you are unwell, please do not attend your appointment. Instead call ahead and we will reschedule you for a time in the future. Thank you for supporting me on this venture. Mel.

16.01.2022 FUN FACT FRIDAY A great infographic from Physio Network showing our bodies are designed to cope and adapt to loading through walking, running, lifting, carrying or various other forms of training. If gradual loads are applied to our body tissues our muscles, bones and ligaments adapt by getting bigger, stronger and more robust in order to better withstand that loading.... Interestingly it isnt load in itself that causes injury. Instead it is a combination of unaccustomed load or activity on a body tissue that is not robust enough to cope with that demand! Take home message - gradually loading your body has been shown to improve it! Dont fear exercise, instead learn where to start!

16.01.2022 As gyms begin to re-open and sports start to return it is important to try to minimise injury risk. The Covid-19 shut down impacted the training regimes of most people. During this time without regular loading individuals will likely have experienced a degree of deconditioning. Individuals with the view to return to sport should undero a period of pre-training through strength and conditioning in order to prepare for the demands of their activity.... As discussed in the article there is importance in emphasising "a gentle increase in training load rather than a rapid escalation, and dont get caught playing catch up"

14.01.2022 This memory popped up Today and I loved that it threw me back to one of my early career highlights. On this day two years ago I provided game day Physio to the NRL referees when they visited my home town. This profession has provided me with so many amazing and exciting opportunities. Enabling me to connect with new colleagues and reconnect with old acquaintances. "I never expected to wear the NRL logo but I couldnt pass up the opportunity to provide game day Physio for the ...the referees at todays Dragons vs Raiders match. I didnt get a photo with the team members however I reconnected with a friend from my time in Orange.." Who is excited to see sports come back after the COVD-19 lockdown? From a Physio perspective I believe it will be interesting to see how the players and referees manage with a shortened season on the back of a period of de-training....

13.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY I couldnt let today go by without recognition for my favourite off-sider "Honey". You will often hear me talk during sessions about this joyful hound and the shenanigans she gets up to. She was my first request when moving to the farm last year - every farm needs a dog right?!

13.01.2022 Musical Knees Do you notice that your knee joints make noises when you bend them? Well, you aren't alone! I frequently see people in my clinic who are concerned about the noises their knees make and what it means for them... If this is you, read the following excellent post by @rehabscience:... ---------- "A great illustration from @honest_physio that helps address a very common clinical misconception about the relationship between knee joint noise (crepitus) and the development of pathology. - Almost every day in the clinic, I meet someone who is concerned about a noise that their body is making. The knee is one of the most common areas of concern as the joint behind our kneecap (patellofemoral joint) commonly makes popping and clicking noises. - It is extremely important that people understand that noises from the knee are usually not associated with pathology and may actually be a sign of a healthy, well-lubricated joint. let’s be careful not to make people feel bad about their knee noise as it can negatively influence how they view their body! - So, if your knees are noisy and you don’t have pain, don’t worry about them. The noise is most likely due to the movement of fluid behind the kneecap and is not an indicator of a developing joint problem. Reference: Robertson CJ, et al. People’s beliefs about the meaning of crepitus in patellofemoral pain and the impact of these beliefs on their behaviour: A qualitative study. 04.01.2022 I really connect with this post by @thesustainablephysio. My current clients will be familiar with this idea. I make it a point to discuss in our first session that together we are a team. I am here to provide an avenue to "help you help you" and that what you do in your own time is far more important than the 30-45mins you spend with me! The goal of my physiotherapy practice is to enable my clients to be active participants in their rehabilitation, empowering the individual ...to take control of their journey towards a healthier future. - FOLLOW @thesustainablephysio FOR MORE SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE TIPS - If youre looking for a quick fix by going to the physiotherapist, you probably have to put in quite some work yourself to achive this! - The physiotherapist could actually help you quite a bit if it comes to movement or pain relieve in the 20-30 minutes you have together. But it is all about what you are able to do in the rest of the 167.5 hours of the week to prevent the pain from returning or even improve it without seeing your therapist 4 times a week." Do you agree? Let me know what you think
