23.01.2022 Little Willow has had a weight gain of 22gms and has grown an extra 5mm. So proud of her, after her traumatic rescue to see these numbers is a blessing. She has a strong spirit and a drive to survive

22.01.2022 Those who have been following Pearl’s rehabilitation, this is for you Some amazing surprises in this video, has made the long nights all worth while. Thank you everyone for your support with Pearl

21.01.2022 2 little lives saved today.... a huge thank you to the members of the public that spotted the 2 little girls. Piper is severely traumatized after being found by a dog. She came off lucky with no broken bones, but has membrane damage to both wings. Little Luna is much more settled after fluids and a bottle of milk.

20.01.2022 Willow with a fully belly and now warm and asleep

20.01.2022 An amazing update on our Tawny Frogmouth that was hit by a truck last week... Thanks to the amazing work of Amber Dahlberg and her team, the swelling on this young guys brain has significantly reduced to the point he is now off pain meds. He leaves primary care tomorrow and will be introduced to his flight aviary. We are so greatful to not only the member of the public that stooped and collected him, but to everyone that had an input in his rehabilitation.

20.01.2022 She misses her mum... but is settled now

19.01.2022 Great improvement from Pearl... She is sitting up and actually kicked her leg out tonight during her bath. Very alert, eating and drinking... still can’t stand but more movement is better than none.

18.01.2022 Honey settles best when on us... bright eyed, feeding great, toileting great, still cry’s for her mum.... it will take time, but considering what she has been through in her short life, she is going great.

18.01.2022 A few of the auction items available from tomorrow morning. Don’t miss out, join the fun!!! All the proceeds stay in the shelter and are going towards the ICU unit and care of the animals we rescue xx

17.01.2022 Barb Wire.... it’s causes so much damage and death to our native wildlife... In the last 12 hours 9 flying foxes were removed from one property... 8 had been stuck, screaming, dehydrated, tearing their wings up and chewing on their limbs to try and get free for over 10 hrs before we were notified... 3 had died... 2 Little Red Flying Foxes and 1 Spectacled Flying Fox.... There are 6 surviving Little Red Flying Foxes... all in various degrees of dehydration and injury severity. They are rehydrating, and currently pain free... and will be moved to Kuranda for specialized rehabilitation.

17.01.2022 If only we could all look this cute crawling out of bed We named her LOWANNA Meaning 'girl' in the Gumbaynggir language of New South Wales and 'woman' in a Tasmanian dialect, Lowanna is also said to describe an object of exquisite beauty.

14.01.2022 Some of our baby Nyctophilus Bifax starting flapping and flying short distances today Although they are still receiving milk in the mornings, they are all now comfortably eating mealworms guts and some soft casings at night.

12.01.2022 The Spectacled Flying Foxes that we, amongst many others, cared for late last year are approaching release from crèche. Many months, almost a year has gone into the care and rehabilitation of these critically endangered amazing animals. So many tears of joy and sorrow. The fight these beautiful creatures have to go through to survive is astounding, especially with the Cairns City Council still forceable ‘dispersing’ these crucial animals from their home. To get these babies ...to this stage couldn’t have happened with out Rebecca Koller, who has dedicated her life and home to be able to offer a crèche facility for these amazing animals. *Photo Credit: Rebecca Koller

12.01.2022 It’s amazing the difference 24hrs can bring... Luna is a lot more bright, and is feeding well... she cries so much and startles at most sounds... but she does seem to feel safe and loved which is evident when she settles by being held and wrapped.

12.01.2022 We are on day 3 and the little Joey lost on Wednesday from Bayview Heights still has NOT been found. We are on day 3 and the little Joey lost on Wednesday from Bayview Heights still has NOT been found.

11.01.2022 We lost little Piper last night, the young one that was grabbed by a dog. We believe that the stress on the attack was the possible reason why she passed. RIP beautiful little soul

10.01.2022 We have tried to keep our personal opinions regarding the dispersal of the Spectacled Flying Foxes from the national important camp in the Cairns CBD, to ourselves. Unfortunately it’s gotten to the point that we need more voices and bodies to try and stop this. We bore witness of the council’s dispersal yesterday, to say it was hard or heart breaking is an understatement. Council dispersed well into the pregnancy of the Spectacled Flying Foxes and have continued into the birt...hing of pups. This dispersal has resulted in pups being abandoned in the CBD camp, because the council won’t cease efforts to allow mum to return and collect her pup. This video is an account of this mornings dispersal. Sev and his friends have been trying to get this to end for the last 94 days! They have bore witness to the abuse and neglect of this key stone endangered species along with the Little Red Flying Foxes which they have also been dispersing. https://www.facebook.com/seviprad/videos/10158865387948899/ Photo taken is that of a mum with pup struggling against the lights, strobe lighting and LRAD. She was exhausted and pup had also slipped from the safety of under her wing.

10.01.2022 Look at our strong girl!!! Pearl got moved up to Mareeba today, to another carer that specializes with adolescent and adult wallabies, now that she has come through the danger zone. Still rather wobbly on her legs, but as you can see is now standing and enjoying the fresh air and being around others of her kind. Huge call out to all involved with helping this young girl. Enjoy your new lease on life Pearl, you deserve it

07.01.2022 Acacia getting the last of the juice off her face. She is a little red flying Fox only approximately 3mths old.

07.01.2022 There was an issue with previous post regarding this rescue, sorry for the inconvenience x Our first spectacled flying fox pup came in today. Meet Willow.... She is very luck to be alive. Found safely tucked up under mums wing, after mum was accidentally killed in a tree lopping incident.... She is only tiny at 86gms, and a fa of 75mm.

05.01.2022 Honey was found shortly after her mum was hit by a car this morning. Bought into us with in an hour of being found, she is very lucky and is uninjured. Currently settling, after having a feed.

05.01.2022 Wee Joey is still missing... please people keep looking

04.01.2022 Miss Willow falling asleep during a feed. The work we do is generally self funded, and we are hoping you guys; our amazing supporters are able to help us out. 04.01.2022 Meet Acacia a Little Red Flying-Fox that was called in tonight. She was found hanging in a palm tree after tree jumping and ‘falling with style’. She is quite young and under weight approximately 96 days old. Little Red Flying-Foxes are much smaller than other species of flying-foxes weighing between 200-600 gm. They vary in colour from reddish-brown to light brown. In the Northern Territory they can be almost black.... They breed at different times of year, and roost closer together than other flying-foxes. A camp of red flying-foxes can number more than one hundred thousand bats. Little red flying-foxes give birth to one young per litter, usually in April to May.

04.01.2022 Pearl still going strong... she ate last night And is toileting well... fingers still crossed, but looking brighter.

02.01.2022 Pearl is now upgraded!!! Hasn’t regained enough strength to leave just yet, but has regained movement in both legs. Still requiring a bottle for water as she is still having trouble standing, but is eating. ... We are hoping to be able to move her this weekend to a facility in Mareeba who deals predominantly with adolescents and adult wallabies.

01.01.2022 Gorgeous little Brown Tree Snake (Boiga irregularis) successfully collected from a property in Edmonton. Was accidentally stepped on by the property owner, but seems uninjured, and pretty eager to return back to a more suitable home. These guys are one of the most common species we are called out for. They are mildly venomous, and rear fanged.
