25.01.2022 Winter in the tropics!!
23.01.2022 Sunday should be race day for many of us, but it seems in our current climate that could be some time away. Therefore today will be the first in our weekly introductions to our club members. So time to meet FNQRRC member Rob Cross. He is a dad to two awesome kids as well as being a husband. A FNQ local with 20 years of his life dedicated to working in non government community services and currently managing a mental health support program. Like many he has been fascinated wi...th bikes since he was a child. At aged 14 a YZ80 was the first of many more bikes in the years to come. Apparently his ex-wife banned him from talking bikes, hence EX-wife. As Rob states as long as he is breathing, bikes will be part of his life. Being involved with FNQRRC and racing reminds him of the happiest time he has had on bikes. "It allows me to forget the world and be in the moment like nothing else. The club gives me something bigger than myself to stay driven to achieve on many levels. It also gives me a reason to break out of the everyday routine that can become a grind for anyone." So if you haven't met Rob before, then make sure you go and say g'day to him and his FZR250 at the track next race day. See more
21.01.2022 Nice day at Mako. Few carts about though.
20.01.2022 It would be hard to find a person more passionate about bike racing than the latest star of our weekly members profile. The gregarious and always affable Les Thompson has been associated with FNQRR for over a decade. Les grew up in Northern Ireland and the Omagh boy was heavily influenced by the vibrant road racing scene there. Events such as the famous NW200 and legendary characters such as Joey and the Dunlop dynasty have had a big influence on Les' life and whom Les has d...evotedly followed since he was a lad. He has vivid memories of "going to watch the likes of Joey Dunlop, Mick Grant, Ron Haslam and the likes....its like a religion over there. I always wanted to race on roads but knew I wasn't that good...or brave !!!!" Les first introduction to FNQRR was like many others, a happy accident. "I had been in Cairns for a few years when I was out for a bike ride and we called by the Mako Trac. I didnt even know there was any bike racing near Cairns. As I walked up to fence half a dozen bikes went past. I walked over to a guy in the pits (turned out to be Mouse) and I asked what size are these bikes and where can I get one?" Two weeks later Les was out on track and mixing it up. That was over ten years ago and since then his yellow CBR with the shamrock has morphed into his signature green machine and he has also added a beautiful custom 450 to his stable of race bikes along with a bucket racer. Les is also keen on adventure bikes such as his BMW 800 GS which he tries to get out on as often as he can but he also has a few road and classic bikes he likes to play with including an Aprilia Touno 1000, a Yamaha RD400, Suzuki GT750 and a Triumph Bobber. So if you see this stylish Irishman who loves all things motorbike at the track (and you certainly wont miss him or his green machines) then go and say g'day. You won't find a friendlier and more encouraging racer who is always more than happy for a chat about bikes and racing. See more

19.01.2022 Thanks to all for highlighting the issues with registering on Ridernet. The initial decision to cancel was based on low numbers for Sunday. Now that we are aware we have the numbers and commitments have been made by riders to attend Sunday’s race meetings, both Racing and Come & Try will now go ahead. FNQRRC apologizes for any inconvenience and we look forward to your support on Sunday.
19.01.2022 This week we get to meet this happy bloke. Antony Perkett is a club regular who is passionate about his bikes and racing. Antony has a long history with bikes in general but his association with FNQRR started in 2016 when he began racing his Aprilia RS125 at Mako Trac. Since then he has also added a MC22 CBR250RR for the clubs most popular racing series as well as having gotten involved with the Johnny Moses Endurance races on Les Thompson's bucket racer. A man with proper mo...torcycling style as evidenced by some of his previous steeds, which include a variety of desirable 70s and 80s Triumph's and Moto Guzzi's. "I've been around bikes ever since I was a kid. I remember Dad used to ride a Vespa to work, my older brothers had bikes and basket case bikes laying around all the time and my younger brother and I used to sit on them and pretend to race each other at about 6yrs old. I bought a Yamaha 250 for $20 and tried to get it going at 14yrs old." Antony has kept that interest in motorcycles and racing throughout his life and says he is a huge fan of the late great Marco Simmoncelli. He also has a few beauty's in his current stable including a Cagiva Mito and a RSV1000R Tuono. Antony is always up for a friendly chat about bikes so go and make yourself known to him at the next race meet and say g'day. See more

12.01.2022 Ok guys and gals, what bike related stuff are you doing while we are all self isolating? Bit of motogp on xbox? Restoring an old bike? Prepping your race bike? Share your pics.
11.01.2022 This week we get to meet the clubs very own former professional racer. The talented Nayuta Mizuno, who is more commonly known as Yuta to his friends. Many members will have met him whilst he was maintaining the go-carts at Mako Trac or as a mechanic at Motosapien Mowers and Motorcycles in Cairns. Yuta became involved with motorbikes in the late 1990's when he managed to have a ride on his uncles 1983 RZ250 at the age of 16. This was the beginning of Yuta's love affair with 2... wheels and with 2 stroke motors. "I bought a RZ250R 1988 model after that but I didn't take too long to find that fact that there is more fun at the race track" In 2001 at 18 years old Yuta bought a Honda NSR250SE '91 model and started racing at the world famous Suzuka circuit. This was the beginning of his racing career and in 2005 at the Suzuka Championship winning 2 races and several podium positions meant that he finished the title challenge for that year with a 2nd overall in the rankings. This was followed by a season racing in the Japan National Championship on a Yamaha TZ125. In 2007 Yuta was a wild card at the Motegi round of the MotoGP. It was after this he moved to the 250 class on a TZ250. In 2011 Yuta retired from road racing and took up Motocross. He bought a Suzuki RMZ250 and participated in the Central Japan Motocross Championship. In 2013 Yuta gave up full time racing and took up a new chapter in his life moving to Australia. Needing an adventure he decided that he would ride a Honda CT110 postie bike from Sydney to Cairns the long way, a journey of over 30,000 km. "On it's way, crossing Tanami desert just myself, that was one of the best experiences." Since settling in Cairns, Yuta has been racing with FNQRRC on a borrowed NSR250 MC16 from Matt Kiesey-Calding and he has also purchased a CB125 to enjoy some affordable bucket racing. So if you want to know how to improve your skills and ride fast then say hello to Yuta at the next race day and he will be happy to give you some advice. See more
10.01.2022 Thanks to all the volunteers, officials, club members and come and try participants who made today a success. It may have been a hot day for everyone racing but it was great to see so many juniors out on track.
07.01.2022 FNQRRC have arranged for camping at Mako Trac for anyone who wishes to go up this Saturday 31st and pitch a tent that night. Why not beat the rush on the Sunday morning and catch up with our friendly club members for a relaxed afternoon chat and a quiet beer.
07.01.2022 Our Club’s Come and Try Track Day will be held on Sunday 1 November, 2020 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. This is a great opportunity to get out on the race track in a safe environment. It’s a great day for bike enthusiasts and a chance to come do some serious bike chat with our club members. What do you need to get a bike ready for racing? What type of bike can you race? What sort of gear do you need? All of these questions and lots more can be answered at one of these events. Gates open from 8:30am, BBQ lunch and drinks available to purchase. Come support the FNQ Road Racing Club.

05.01.2022 Today we get to meet the clubs own golden tonsils, Matt Kiesey-Calding. If you haven't met Matt before and you happen to bump into him for a chat and think "hmm that mellow drawl sounds familiar" well it just may be because he happens to be FNQRRC's very own race day commentator. Originally from Sweden, Matt moved to Canada at a young age. He started out living on the east coast in Montreal and over the years gradually moved ever west until he ended up in Vancouver where he ...met his wife. In 1994 he followed her to Perth and then later Brisbane, until eventually they ended up in Cairns. Apart from a short stint on Jersey in the Channel Islands they have called Cairns home. Despite his global wanderings he has always been involved with motorbikes and they have been a big part of his life as far back as he can remember. A 1976 CB360T was his first road bike and it left quite an impression on him..."it was horrible in every sense." However, racing soon beckoned and in 1986 he started road racing a variety of bikes including RZ350's, a RD350LC and a RZ500. In 1990 he finished 21st on a CBR600F in the Amateur 600 Production Category that was run in the Canadian National Series. "One lucky 9th place in the rain gave me 2 points." After a break from racing that lasted 20 odd years, Matt took up Supermoto with FNQRRC in 2011 with 2013 being his most successful year. "I finished 9th in Australia in the 250 class before ending up in the hospital and ending my racing for good." Many members will also recall that Matt was the FNQRRC President for 3 years during a golden period that culminated with FNQRRC hosting an Australian Supermoto Championship round in 2016 at the Mako Trac. Whilst he is no longer involved with the club to that same degree he admits "It's great to be still part of FNQRRC and such a fantastic group of people." He claims he is now an 80's bike tragic (Is there any better sort of bike tragic?) and has 3 project bikes on the go. An '86 XBR500, an '87 FZR1000 and an '86 XLV750R. We all wish Matt the best of luck with their progress and hope to see them on the road or track in the near future. And when you see (or hear) Matt at the next track day make sure you go up to him and say g'day. See more
04.01.2022 Bit of late notice for tomorrow but if you are free head up to the track. #yeahbaby
04.01.2022 Hope everyone had a Happy Easter and relaxing long weekend, or as well as could be expected considering our current circumstances. This weeks profile is of one of our motard riding brothers. FNQRRC member Steve Twine has been involved with the club for over a decade and has a long association with bikes and motor sports in general. Steve is another FNQ local who is a born and bred Cairns boy. Steve started riding motorbikes from an early age, however he mainly got his racing ...fix during his high shool years on the bmx track. He has been involved with various disciplines of riding including motocross and enduro for most of his life. Drag racing (cars and bikes) has also featured prominently in his life since the age of 17. Like many of us he owns more than one bike and his current crop include a 2018 KTM500, 2014 KTM690, 2012 KTM450Smr, 2010 CRF250, 2008 CBR1000rr and a 2004 CBR1000rr. So next race meet if you see a KTM motard and it's wheel standing out of a corner and passing a road racer then its a good chance it's Steve. Therefore make sure you go and say hello to him when you are next in the pits. See more
02.01.2022 Unfortunately with the deteriorating situation in regard to Covid-19 and the increasing restrictions being applied it is now no longer possible to host the first round of the club series. The club executive has taken the decision to postpone all club racing indefinitely and rescheduling will occur when the world returns to a more normal state of affairs. Based on current predictions this may take some time. Lets not forget that by acting responsibly we all have the ability to assist in reducing the severity of this pandemic. Please remember to look after your family and friends and lets ensure that all our members and their families are here to enjoy some life affirming racing after this uncertain time passes.
