The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is building on the emergency interventions made following the devastating 2019-20 bushfires to also deliver accelerated scientific assessments of the current status of hundreds of Australian freshwater fish and turtles, plants, lizards and snakes, terrestrial mammals and frogs, as well as rainforests and wet forests of south-east Australia. It's part of a $200 million investment by the Australian Government to help native wildlife and their habitat recover from the impacts of the bushfires and complements assessments being undertaken by the Commonwealth, states and territories. This important work will update our nationally threatened species and communities’ listings, updating the vital protection and conservation planning needed to help species and communities recover and improving our readiness for future fire events.
