14.01.2022 Books involving libraries, either real or imaginary have always inspired me. I've just finished The Paris Library, based on the true story of the American Library in Paris during the Occupation, and the brave staff who continued to provide books for their 'subscribers'. Inspirational stuff! What's your favourite book, set in a library? Let's make a list! https://www.betterreading.com.au//heartbreaking-and-uplif/

09.01.2022 Glimpses of Utopia - Jess Scully’s vision for the future This is the third post in our series about the amazing public libraries in the City of Sydney. Cr Jess Scully spoke to FOLA about their council’s vision for the city, and the libraries’ role in supporting the renewal and enhancement of urban life. It turns out Jess has thought deeply about this subject and has gathered her thoughts in a remarkable book called Glimpses of Utopia. In it she explores some of the history of... urban, social reformers from the 19th and 20th centuries and then shares her pragmatic and optimistic approach to transforming Sydney as we head into the middle decades of the 21st century. If there’s a theme that runs through Glimpses of Utopia, it is about putting humans at the centre of all decisions, and not relying on the nexus of technology, economics and profit to determine what our communities look like. It’s a wonderfully positive message and particularly relevant as we find our way through the current pandemic. Well said, Jess. You can find out more information about Jess’s book here: https://glimpsesofutopia.com/
