23.01.2022 More news of the wonderful Monique Clare who performed at Folk at the Friary on 1.4.2017!! ************** A screen capture from Concert Window of the concert by the uber-talented Monique Clare (aka Monique Bartkowiak) live at Club Passim in Boston, one of the oldest folk clubs in the USA, a stage that has been graced by some of the biggest names in folk, Americana & acoustic music in the world. Congratulations Monique - you done great!!

23.01.2022 It's on tomorrow night (Sat 18/8) - don't miss it!!

21.01.2022 No photos (always difficult when you're part of the show) but what a splendid gig we had last night at Folk at the Friary!! The place was packed and sharing the stage with such fine songwriters - Mark Cryle & Chanel Lucas - was an enormous privilege and a great joy. The Songwriter's Circle concept worked superbly (although Mark did point out that it was more of a line than a circle - there's a pedant in every crowd). We all got to join in on each other's songs - even the ones we didn't know!! Thank you so much to all of the volunteers who made it such a splendid evening!! Depending on what happens to The Old Friary (it's been put out to expressions of interest for lease or sale) we might, or might not, get the chance to do Folk at the Friary again in 2019!!

17.01.2022 We're back!! Folk at the Friary on 21 October, 2017, with Jeff Burton and Sadie & Jay & chalkboard!! 6-9pm, $15 adults, $7.50 child/pensioner, $30 family. The Old Friary (Brookfield Centre), 139 Brookfield Rd, Kenmore Hills - food and drinks available. See you there!!

16.01.2022 Folk at the Friary is delighted to present the fabulous 'Gone Molly' and charming songstress Sue Wighton at 6pm on Saturday 3 June, 2017. You can find us at The Old Friary, 139 Brookfield Rd, Kenmore Hills (opp Friary Fields bus stop). Adults $15, children/pensioners $7.50, families $30. Powerful and ethereal, Gone Molly is the new voice of contemporary Anglo-Celtic folk music. Songwriter Sally Harris and Declan Affley award winner Rebecca Wright bring to life colourful chara...cters and tales from a rich cultural tapestry abounding in mythology, mysteries, love & loss. With their debut album due for release in September and a steadily growing presence on the festival circuit, this enchanting duo are not to be missed. Sue Wighton is a Brisbane-based singer/songwriter. Sue has been entertaining Brisbane audiences for many years whether it’s delivering a soulful torch song at the Brisbane Jazz Club, or accompanying herself on guitar to deliver her rich repertoire of traditional and self-penned acoustic tunes. Sue charms and delights her fans with her heartfelt vocal style and irreverent wit. She has been known to bake.

12.01.2022 Monique Bartkowiak (who performs as Monique Clare), wowed us all at the last Folk at the Friary on 1 April, 2017. She needs to build up a mailing list so she can take the next step in crowdfunding an album. If you can help, click on her status update below!!

08.01.2022 A brand new video from the uber-talented Monique Clare, who wowed everyone at a recent Folk at the Friary AND received the Folk Alliance Australia Best Young performer award at the Easter National Folk Festival!! This time she is a contestant in Brisbane's Qube Effect Competition, and the video is her entry. If you've got a moment, please not only look (and listen) to the video (which is awesome) but also hit vote through the link in the video description. When you hit the li...nk, you end up at a Brisbane City Council Facebook page - you then have to find the still shot of Monique and click on th photo to vote!! A little tricky!! And pass it on to all your firends. And their friends!! The prize is money to help with musical development, and Monique would put it to extremely good use, I have no doubt!!

08.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that Folk at the Friary is back for 2018!! It's been way too long, we know!! Caroline Hammond and Sally Harris & Lachlan Baldwin are the fabulous artists kicking off the 2018 program. Chalkboard artists welcome (walk-ins only please)....
