21.01.2022 A reminder for Artists wishing to express an interest to perform at the 2020 Folk by the Sea festival, presented by the Illawarra Folk Club that applications close 30 March. We're hoping we can still proceed with the festival pending the status of the Covid 19 virus. https://folkbythesea.com.au/2020_artist_application
18.01.2022 Media release from the Illawarra Folk Club Illawarra Folk Festival falls victim to COVID-19 Organisers have taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Illawarra Folk Festival scheduled for January, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Illawarra Folk Club made the announcement today, after coming to the conclusion that the uncertainty surrounding public gatherings made planning for the event impossible. Festival Artistic Director David De Santi the club had no choice but to ...cancel the festival which was scheduled for 14-17 January at Bulli Showground. We are hugely disappointed, Mr De Santi said. However, by this stage, in 'normal' times, we would be well underway with site planning, programming, marketing and finalising artist bookings. It was simply not prudent to go any further, considering the risk of outlaying hundreds of thousands of dollars and the potential health issues for our volunteers, artists, stallholders, suppliers and patrons. Mr De Santi said he hoped that the situation will have improved next year, and that the 36th Illawarra Folk Festival can be held from 13-16 January 2022. All going well, we'll be calling for artist's applications for the 2022 festival in March next year, he said. The Illawarra Folk Club has also abandoned plans for a one-day folk festival in Kiama on September 26. The club was considering the smaller one-day event to replace the three-day Folk By The Sea festival, but has decided that this is no longer viable either. In some positive news, the Illawarra Folk Club is holding a breakout concert at City Diggers Club in Wollongong this Friday night, featuring Dave Oliphant and the Masked Marauders, Penny Hartgerink and The Water Runners. However, with restricted seating, the show is already a sell-out. Issued by festival publicity officer Nick Hartgerink 0418 424085 David De Santi can be contacted on 0409 571788 See more

13.01.2022 A little Christmas present
12.01.2022 Considering the uncertain times due to the COVID-19 global pandemic the Illawarra Folk Club, who run the Illawarra Folk Festival at Bulli Showground, have had n...o choice but to cancel the next festival which was scheduled for 14-17 January. We are hugely disappointed. By this stage, in 'normal' times, we would be well underway with site planning, programming, marketing and finalising artist bookings. In addition to this factor the actual risk of outlaying of hundreds of thousands of dollars and the potential health issues for our volunteers, artists, stallholders, suppliers and patrons is not prudent. And there have been no forthcoming lifelines to guarantor the event, despite asking. We are hoping things will be better next year to plan for our 36th festival to be held from 13-16 January 2022. All things being equal we'll be calling for artist's applications in March 2021. Take care. #keepfolkalive
10.01.2022 Hope you're getting your tickets!! The festival looks amazing, check this out.
09.01.2022 Illawarra Folk Club is back with another concert - Friday 28 April. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. And another great line up with ABC Morning Host, Nick Rheinberger teaming up with Tia Wilson (TiaJuana). Nick and Tia have been thrown together as the hilarious co-hosts of several Illawarra Folk Festival finales, and now they’re a duo in life and on stage. But in a world of starry-eyed romance, they are brutal realists. Be warned. Then there are the ‘Swinging Arms’ who are Stuart Alexande...r and Kylie Pickford. The Swingin Arms were Conceived in a Petri dish consisting of 70% alcohol, which made them COVID immune. They write their own songs and are patiently waiting for a $million dollar record deal. Oh! we forgot they are very entertaining musicians who led 'The Calamaties' and 'The Guilty Three". Finally there is the ‘High Country’, Brett Sargent and John Nichols with one addition. The only complaint at the Breakout was that we had a whole folk concert without an accordion player. Well Brett and John have rectified that and they have asked Greg Costello, The Illawarra’s finest exponent of the dreaded instrument to join them for the night. (we should add here that Tia is also a very fine exponent of the accordion).
09.01.2022 Nerida is a beautiful soul.
07.01.2022 Wishing you all a great Christmas especially thinking of those suffering in the fires at the moment. May 2020 bring us all rain.
07.01.2022 Here's the fabulous Saoirse Oz, who I introduced to stage on Saturday night. Their name means freedom in Gaelic.
06.01.2022 Illawarra Folk Festival ARTISTS APPLICATIONS OPEN Amid the COVID-19 doom and gloom for musicians and other performing artists who have seen their livelihoods wrecked, Illawarra Folk Festival Artistic Director David De Santi is offering a small ray of sunshine. Mr De Santi has announced that artists applications are now open for the 2021 Illawarra Folk Festival, scheduled for Bulli Showground on January 14-17 next year. We are, of course, hoping that the COVID-19 [pandemic ...will be under control by then, and that we can proceed with the festival, Mr De Santi said. It would be nice to think that by then the crisis will have passed and we will be able to celebrate life returning to normal, with community events like the Illawarra Folk Festival. Even though it seems a long way off, there is a lot of pre-festival planning to do. Locking down the performers is an important part of that. Applications close on April 30, and can be made on-line at https://illawarrafolkfestival.com.au/ Next year will be the 36th Illawarra Folk Festival, which traditionally features a significant contingent of Illawarra performers as well as national and international acts. Mr De Santi said he hoped international travel will have returned to normal well before the festival, so that it can have its usual mix of international, national and local acts. After 35 years, we are well entrenched on the international and national festival circuit, so we know that we will be able to attract a strong contingent of performers from overseas and around Australia, assuming that travel is back to normal, Mr De Santi said. But we also love having Illawarra performers on our program. Over the years, we have seen many local acts progress to national and even international prominence, and that is always really gratifying. So I would really encourage Illawarra acts to apply for the 2021 festival. Our festival covers a wide range of musical genres. Apart from traditional folk, we have world, bluegrass, roots, gypsy and Celtic music, as well as comedy, dance and poetry. For more information, contact David De Santi on 0409 571788 See more

03.01.2022 Tonight, at 6.00pm AEST right here on the Woodford Folk Festival Facebook page, Kristina Olsen will be here for a 30 minute live show as part of Woodfordian Art...ists: Live Online series. Kristina Olsen can certainly claim the badge of a Woodfordian veteran. She has enriched almost every facet of Woodfordian life with a different niche of her sprawling talents she’s performed at The Planting, at the Woodford Folk Festival, she’s hosted immersive songwriting workshops on the Artisan Camp in fact the only reason we haven’t managed to snag her for a tour is that this travelling singer-songwriter (pre-Covid) tends to spend upwards of half her typical year on the road, touring to festivals, workshops and music camps around the world. Our Woodfordian Citizens will know her from her regular editorial, Travels with Folding Bike, from our quarterly journal Lore Society. Kristina’s show is extra special tonight because this early to bed, early to rise folkie is getting up at 1am her time (she’s back in her home in California) to join us at our regular slot of 6pm AEST. Let’s make it a great one for our old pal! See you tonight!
