19.01.2022 ***Tasmanian restrictions to ease from Monday*** Premier Peter Gutwein has just announced Tasmania will begin substantive easing of COVID-19 restrictions on Monday, 18 May, releasing a three stage Roadmap to Recovery. Some restrictions regarding funeral attendee limits, aged-care visits and national parks and reserves will also be lifted from Monday, 11 May.... In Stage One, from Monday 18 May, you will be allowed to have up to five visitors in your home, with public gatherings including weddings and boot camps given a limit of 10 people. Funerals of up to 30 attendees can be held outdoors. Restaurants and cafes will be allowed to re-open and seat up to 10 patrons at a time with social distancing measures in place. Border controls will remain, however Tasmanian residents will be able to quarantine at home if it is suitable. From May 25, Kindergarten to Year 6 students and years 11 and 12 will return to learning at school, with high school students from years 7 to 10 returning on 9 June. In Stage 2, from 15 June, gathering limits will increase to 20 people at a time for indoor and outdoor, including restaurants/cafes, cinemas and museums, and accommodation services will re-open. Subject to Public Health advice, Stage 3 will commence 13 July 2020, with gathering limits lifted to 50 indoor and 100 outdoor and a staged broadscale return to workplaces. Stage 3 will also see the re-opening of bars, night clubs and casino and gaming premises considered. For a full list of guidelines, visit: https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/fami/roadmap-to-recovery

13.01.2022 TASMANIAN COUNTRY Over the past day, Font has been approached by a number of people asking us to purchase the Tasmanian Country newspaper and ensure its continued operation. We would like to let you know that while we have reached out to News Ltd to express an interest in doing so, unfortunately we understand that the newspaper is not for sale.... Obviously this is disappointing because like many Tasmanians we would like to see the newspaper continue, but we respect the rights of News Ltd as the owner to choose what they do with their own publications.

01.01.2022 BREAKING: Premier calls early election Premier Peter Gutwein has called a snap State election for Saturday 1 May, dissolving the Parliament and giving MPs and hopefuls a five-week campaign. It is a year earlier than when the next election is actually due, in March 2022.... Mr Gutwein has chosen to go to the polls early as the Government looks to re-secure a majority in the parliament following the announcement by the Speaker, Ms Hickey, that she would become an independent. Labor will need to gain four seats to win government in their own right. The Liberals currently hold 12 seats, Labor nine, the Greens two and there are two independents (Ms Hickey and Ms Ogilvie). State polling day will also coincide with Legislative Council elections in the electorates of Derwent, Mersey and Windermere. Font Public Relations partner Brad Stansfield has been engaged by the Tasmanian Liberal Party to assist with its campaign. As a result Mr Stansfield will not be available for other Font client work during this period. Font PR managing director Becher Townshend and partner Brad Nowland along with the rest of the team will continue to be available to work unencumbered and serve our clients’ needs.
