13.01.2022 Foodbank NT would like to send out a huge thank you to Engineers Australia (NT Branch). The 2020 Structural Support initiative more-than-exceeded expectations with teams of engineering companies and engineering students in the NT coming together to donate a total of 2082 items (908kg) of food to Foodbank NT. There has been a great negative impact as a result of COVID-19 on the NT community, including not-for-profit initiatives such as Foodbank NT, said Engineers Australia N...orthern Division General Manager, Keely Quinn. Representatives of the Engineers Australia Northern Territory Committee approached us with their concerns and offered a suggestion to help alleviate this issue in the form of the ‘Structural Support’ program. The purpose of ‘Structural Support’ is to call on the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the NT community in a way that helps support those in need. Said FoodBank NT’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Pilt: In May alone, the requirement for meals was up from (approx.) 31,000 to 86,000 in the NT. There are 13,000 homeless people in the NT, 4,500 of which are children. No one in Australia should go hungry, but they do. Community engagement makes all the difference. Teams crafted everything from the Taj Mahal to their local Bunnings, a castle and more all from a mix of tinned meats, tune, spaghetti, crackers, pasta and rice just to name a few. Each of the structures were photographed and shared on social media, while cans were dropped into Engineers Australia Northern Division for collection by Foodbank NT earlier this week.
