22.01.2022 We are one year on from the Adelaide Hills and KI bush fires that devastated the state and continues to have a lasting effect on the communities in those regions. To help those in the regions, Foodbank visits the Lobethal community twice a week with our Mobile Food Hub and delivers to KI through Kangaroo Island Community Education - KICE to help those that are still being affected. 13.01.2022 How do you tell your kids that we are struggling so much? You want to be able to give them what they need but understandably that is hard being in this situation and so sick Meet Lauren. Lauren was diagnosed with a chronic illness which left her unable to work and her husband looking for work, made particularly difficult through COVID-19. With bills and medical expenses, they were worried about how they would feed their children. Lauren like many South Australians are strug...gling. Citing unexpected expenses or large bills (41%) and rent and mortgage payments (35%) being the deciding factor on whether they can afford to eat or not. The recent Foodbank Hunger Report highlights three in ten South Australians now experiencing food insecurity had not gone hungry before the pandemic. With government assistance providing temporary relief, Foodbank will continue to feed those across the state to ensure that no South Australians is left without a meal. 06.01.2022 On Friday 6th November, Foodbank SA officially celebrated the acquisition of the Foodbank Mount Gambier site and completion of property development to ensure the long-term security in the region. The celebration saw Tony Pasin MP, Simon Schrapel and Lynne Neshoda cut the ribbon, marking this next step in the long-term support of the Limestone Coast. "What this means for the Limestone Coast community is a larger capacity for the Foodbank warehouse and hub to store up to 85-90,...000 kilos of food at any time for local charities in the Limestone Coast to assist those in need." "I am also thrilled that we can continue to honour the legacy of the late Barry Maney OAM and his wife Shirley who were instrumental in the establishment of this regional Foodbank by advocating and supporting the cause." Lauren had been diagnosed with a chronic illness that left her unable to work and her husband looking for work after losing his job as a result of COVID-19. Trying to navigate their new ‘normal’, Lauren and her husband Nick are faced with their next challenge; of not only providing food on the tabl...e for their children during this holiday period, but providing a Christmas at all. It is thanks to those who have been able to provide their support to Foodbank that families have been able to put food on the table during this tough year and your continued support will provide to those families throughout this holiday period. The Foodbank Hunger Report provides an annual snapshot of Australia’s growing food insecurity problem. The report is now well established as the definitive publication on the incidence and causes of food insecurity in Australia. DEMAND FOR FOOD RELIEF IS UP... COVID-19, and its flow on effects, have changed the face of food insecurity in Australia. The global pandemic has impacted the lives of all Australians. Charities have seen a significant increase in the frequency of demand for food relief. In 2019, 15% of Australians experiencing food insecurity were seeking food relief at least once a week. Over the 3 days we will be hosting a lineup of stellar chefs who will be holding cooking demonstrations. Come along and learn from our guest chefs, Stephen van Riet (2KW), Duncan Lu (Plate of Origin), Mandy Hall (Masterchef) and Ben Trobbiani (Masterchef). First up on Friday is the extremely talented Stephen van Riet!... "Born and raised in Adelaide. I have been a chef for about 25 years. I began my career in the Adelaide café boom working at such rundle street institutions as Boltz and Amicis, for the next 25 years I worked around Adelaide city and Adelaide hills. Though I have travelled overseas quite a few times I never worked over there, I just prefer to have others cook for me over there rather than work. For the past 4 years I have worked as sous chef at 2KW. It was there working with exec chef Trent Lymn that I started to develop better relationships with local farmers across the state, spending time with local butchers and farmers. During COVID I did my cert iv training and assessment to become a VET teacher. Now I work for CEG Teaching the next generation of young chefs."
