20.01.2022 Hey Brisbane! The Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance is coming to town next month! It's the fifth annual Food Sovereignty Convergence 20-22 October 2019, com...mencing with a Farming Democracy Palaver and Dinner on Sunday night at the Food Connect Shed: Your Local Food Hub! Join me and Daniel Cordner over an ethical and ecologically-sound dinner as we wax lyrical about small-scale agroecological farming, and what controlling the means of production has meant for our farms, then fill you in on what's happening in the global food sovereignty movement that gives us hope for our children's futures. Then come back on Monday for the annual unconference where we'll work democratically on what's needed to make our food system fair, nutritious, accessible, and ecologically-sound sound for everyone. Tuesday is the AFSA AGM - join us and add your voice to our annual mandate of what you think we should be doing at the local, state, federal, and global levels! And we're always looking for more food sovereignty warriors for the National Committee (or even as non-committee volunteers), so watch the AFSA Facebook page and newsletter for the call for nominations coming out soon! See you up north! Viva la vía campesina! Viva la revolución! And share share share! xo

07.01.2022 Thats a wrap for the 2019 Food Sovereignty Convergence! Thanks to everyone who attended, input knowledge and ideas, shared the love and made plans to COLLECTIV...ISE! Topics raised by our passionate Food Sovereignty activists this year included farming collectively, collaborative models for growing growers, climate resiliency in farming systems, regulatory change and barriers to farming, seed sovereignty, raw milk and ways of supporting Indigenous Food Sovereignty. AFSAs 2019/20 National Committee was elected at our AGM on our second day and an exciting development to emerge this year is the creation of the FOOPL Fund (Farming on Other Peoples Land). This fund is set to support and encourage people doing just that, via knowledge and resource sharing and community building. How exciting! A huge thanks to the Food Connect Brisbane team who hosted us this year! We pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which their Food Connect Shed: Your Local Food Hub sits, the Turrbal peoples and their elders past, present and emerging. Thanks also to the delightful Matt and Mika of Neighbourhood Farm who showed us all the good work they are doing and what is possible on a small piece of land when you work collectively to feed your community. VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN!

06.01.2022 "Its out in the heat and the dust of Australias farms that this countrys broken visa system can best be viewed. Thats where the cheap, exploitable, often illegal labour is picking and packing the fruit and vegetables that end up on the shelves of Coles and Woolworths, where over 50% of Australians buy their fresh produce."

03.01.2022 Thanks to all our careholders and the wider community for a wonderful first year as community owners of our own local food hub!! Here's a lovely reflection by one of our careholders, Paul Bishop <3
