25.01.2022 A huge congratulations to The Village Grocer and Store at Bundanoon for winning the Fresh Food category in the Southern Highlands Local Business Awards this week! Excellent news, can't wait to visit them again to see what they have done. I live at the other end of the shire so haven't been for a while but I was aware they had plans and it looks like they have achieved them. Lucky locals!

22.01.2022 Enjoyed a glass of Tertini Riesling 2018 and a casual meal with friends this evening at the official opening of Hendriks, Cognac & Wine an exciting addition to the food and wine scene in Mittagong. Started with mixed gourmet olives and duck liver pate followed by the house specialty a Giant Jaffle - Cognac Mushrooms & Cheese, served with brandy drizzle & salad. Nice to see a large range of Southern Highlands wines in their extensive menu - @centennialvineyards @artemiswines @tertiniwines @dawningdaywines . 11.01.2022 Went by High Street in Bowral today to see how Hugh Nicholas was going with his new Cheese Shop and Wine Bar and he was open - 1st official day today! Good timing? Looking good, you must check it out. COVID Safe rules means the seating is limited for now but that will change over time. Was nice to see some of Nick’s cheese books have found a good home, he would be happy. Happy to see a range of local beer (@highlanderbeerandbrewingco & @eden_brew) and wine and products from @handstirred jam shop, @zumamiflavour , @lameduckfoods @kieltys_irish_sauces. 11.01.2022 We enjoyed Welcoming the Festive Season, Italian Style at Southern Highland Winery last week. Starting with a delicious seafood platter - insalata di mare, cocktail di gamberi, calamari fritti, dentice mantecato - such a generous sized entree and so fresh. Followed by perfectly pan fried snapper with garden roasted vegetables and finishing with a Xmas Italian dessert - we certainly didn't need much dinner tonight! I loved the abundant vegetable garden that greeted us outside the front entrance - it really set the scene. Thank you Marco Salvestrin, Widia and the team for looking after us so well. Main: Mandemar Farmhouse a lamb 2 Ways - Hot Pot, Parsnip Purée, Kibbeh, tomato & eggplant Kasundi. Dessert: Saffron poached Pear, sweet yoghurt, coconut aqua faba. I have followed Sophie’s career for many years since she worked for Slow Food at the Head Office in Piedmont, Italy before returning to Australia and moving to Orange. This is her third book and she spoke of working on another one with her Mother about Art and Food. We are lucky to have inspiring young people like Sophie to keep us connected to our food and to show us how to live a healthy fulfilling lifestyle.
