22.01.2022 Osteoporosis is a common disease in older adults that makes bones more brittle, leading to a higher chance of bone fractures. A common (and delicious) way to prevent osteoporosis is to eat a diet rich in calcium. Not that we needed any more reasons to love cheese! Did you know that as we get older, the amount of calcium we need increases for healthier, stronger bones? Sometimes it can be a warning sign for a broader swallowing condition, and sometimes that medication can just be a hard pill to swallow! Yoghurt, custard, and even thickened fluids can help swallowing whole medications easier. Always check with your pharmacist or Dr before crushing any medications, and refer to your speech pathologist to assess your swallow if you have any concerns!
