25.01.2022 So good. I use this tip all the time Be in the present this day. Don’t dwell on yesterday’s binge or another week ahead. Just focus on making it to the end of the next 24 hours One day at a time. From my book Everyday Diet Secrets - Weight loss tips and tools to inspire and motivate Which is now reduced in price so grab yourself a bargain. Or add it onto another order.... #MotivationMonday #MotivationMondays

25.01.2022 I argue that the French Paradox is MORE than just the red wine they love so much. There are many things that could account for their low rate of heart disease: http://ow.ly/Y3vi50BDWpX

24.01.2022 Using the microwave is one of the 12 healthiest ways to cook. Yes I’ve heard all those rumours about microwaves destroying the goodness in food. But they’re just old myths that refuse to die.... Like radio waves, microwaves are a form of electromagnetic energy. Microwave cooking works by vibrating the water molecules within the food so they heat up. It is as safe as cooking on a conventional stove top. It is simply a way of heating. I like to microwave as it heats a meal up fast and needs little or no water (think no leaching of vitamins or minerals) and no salt. I find it's best to use containers that have been specially designed for microwave heating or else stick to the old-fashioned glass, ceramic or paper. Don't use plastic containers which are high in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) such as margarine containers or ice-cream containers. The molecules may pass into the food from their plastic. 23.01.2022 Lunch suggestion: a can of tuna plus a salad plus a slice or two of bread Easy, quick and something you can take to work Not that we nutritionists suggest you eat at your desk whilst you work (altho I bet a lot of you do)! If you simply have to, then clear a small space and concentrate on the eating listening to your stomach You can always eat more later! #HealthyLunch

23.01.2022 Barramundi + broccoli + potatoes (the fish fillet is sitting on more broccoli underneath) A great healthy balanced meal with a nice plate up of the Cone Bay Barra with some lemon to squeeze over Thnx to the chefs at the Club for a fab fish dinner #HealthyDinner

22.01.2022 It doesn’t have to be crisp and raw to be high in fibre (fiber). A banana, half an avocado or a small can of baked beans have more fibre than a stalk of celery - yet they’re soft and easy to eat.

21.01.2022 Broccolini being cooked Dinner tonight The rest is coming

19.01.2022 Had prawns already peeled & frozen Took minutes for these guys to thaw out stir-fried 1 bunch of asparagus (cut) then spring onions & cooked linguine pasta Was great to eat! Serves 2 . . . #Prawns #PeeledPrawns #MealIdeasForBusyMums

16.01.2022 A sneak look at the cover of one of my fastest-moving new Printables from my website All you do is purchase, download and print out. Easy. Although this one costs nothing And gives you the lactose content for various milks, plant mylks such as almond or oat mylk, yoghurts, ice-cream, cottage cheese, Cheddar and processed cheese It’s handy to know #LactoseFree #LactoseIntolerant

15.01.2022 Getting set up to cook I’m no chef but have cooked an awful lot of different dishes over the past years thanks to this calling (I won’t call it a job) and also to having kids when you need to get a meal on the table A healthier meal preferably Not just noodles & sausos, easy thing they are One needs to learn how to use those handy basics such as canned salmon, canned tuna, eggs, a BBQ chook, pasta, mince, quinoa and bread All the basics that you can buy great cookbooks about Gotta love those chefs and recipe creators #HealthyCooking

15.01.2022 Had no idea that nuts and seeds ranked so well for PROTEIN! More than tofu (which I thought was pretty high) and soy beans. Thnx to Nuts for Life for showing me this

14.01.2022 It’s great to have a DAY to talk about a fave book shop. Or simply to mention where you go to buy a book that’s not online (even though it is most convenient) So coming up this Saturday 3 October, head off to your local or your favourite shop, and tell them how wonderful they are Bookshops are reknowned for their ability to find the right book for you or to order it in - often faster than ordering it from overseas I’d like to nominate the Hill of Content bookshop in Balmain as my fave - they have a huge collection & can always find me something to give I love ‘em. #LoveYourBookShop #LYBD2020

14.01.2022 Just love this rice #LowGI #LowGIrice

13.01.2022 [New post] Here are the 4 easiest vegetables and herbs to grow I dislike buying a whole bunch of anything when all I need is a leaf or two. So basil and parsley are on that list. As well as other vegetables that will surprise you And with the lockdown and restrictions, we can’t get out as often as we’d like - another good reason to weed or water your things in the garden #GrowYourOwn

13.01.2022 Potatoes boiling ready for mash

11.01.2022 Great thought from Alla Wolf-Tasker, an Australian culinary legend and co-owner of the celebrated Lake House and Dairy Flat Farm at Daylesford in Victoria. I guess she means food ingredients such as meat or cheese where smaller portions of really good quality stuff are all the go at the moment. And are much more satisfying than lots without quality. Have to agree. Alla continues to extol the virtues of local, sustainable production that she first championed more than 40 year...s ago - when next to no-one was doing likewise. She has always maintained that producers are the unsung heroes of the food world. And she has been thrilled to see a return to so much home cooking during iso. I wish her well in her latest journey. I heard her speak at the Dietitian’s conference a few years ago - she was terrific!! @WolfInKitchen @LittleWolfProjects

10.01.2022 Meatballs made from pork and veal. On top of a bed of linguini Thank you to Hudson Meats for these beauties We got 3 meals out of one box Just add a side salad and you end up with a balanced dinner #HealthyDinner

08.01.2022 During Febfast in 2021, I found a glass of non-alcoholic beer was a great way to tackle that ‘pre-dinner drinks hour’ and was very refreshing in hot weather. http://ow.ly/lHro50ExoR7

08.01.2022 Trying a new snack before dinner Hmmm. I love mushrooms but these guys were not the same. They tasted crisp & crunchy and you got (some) of their flavour Even though they were 75% shiitake mushroom & cooked at low temperature, lightly-salted, no MSG, etc they didn’t hit the spot! A nice change but one I won’t be that keen to repeat Sorry. But it’s a No from me #YouGottaTryOnce

07.01.2022 Mussels for dinner tonight They take 2-3 minutes to cook and here they were being mixed in with the stock, onion, carrot and cream Delish. Serve with crusty bread for dunking and a green salad. Voila! #DinnerIsServed

07.01.2022 What ever happened to oven bags? I used to like them and put them to good use cooking things like a whole chicken or a roast or large chunks of vegetables. We used to prick them (to allow any steam to escape) and throw in a spoon of flour (to prevent the bag from exploding in your oven I never had one that did).... These bags were supposed to cook things faster, retain flavour and juices while helping to keep your oven clean. Things didn’t splatter onto the walls of your oven. Also you saved time as you had less cleaning up to do. Have these stalwarts of the kitchen been superseded by the slicker slow-cookers? Of which I have one and love it. It’s great to soups, curries and lamb shanks. I deliberately bought a 6 litre slow-cooker so I could fit in six Frenched (smaller, trimmed) lamb shanks. No point doing all that long cooking if you then can only feed four! I say let’s feed six! Used to buy the Glad Oven Bags which came in a pack of 5 bags. I now see I can still buy it and also Multix, Hercules as well as Amada. #OvenBag

06.01.2022 Dinner plated up. Yummy.

06.01.2022 If people pinned a post-it note on their fridge with the top five food tips - what should it say? 1 Eat slowly 2 Chew your food well. 3 Listen to your stomach stop when you’re at a comfortable 5 out of 10 full.... 4 Drink more water. 5 Eat a salad a day. . . Plus Don’t buy junk food if it’s not in the cupboard, you won’t be tempted. Nor will the kids. It’s the nutrition advice I wish I had a dollar for every time I said it! #NutritionFacts #NutritionTips

04.01.2022 If you want to grow your own food, starting with easy-to-grow varieties is the key. You’ll gain confidence and knowledge, as well as the satisfaction of being able to eat your own produce. http://ow.ly/oRFX50BcLBj

04.01.2022 A filo pastry quiche filled with baby spinach leaves, dill, feta, cooked salmon pieces, eggs & cream Another good way to use up leftover salmon (as if I needed a way!) #Filo

02.01.2022 The thing I liked most with the no-alcohol beers I tasted was that they were not sweet at all, unlike cordials and juices with their sugars whether added or natural. http://ow.ly/DXil50ExoVH

01.01.2022 When deciding where to put your veggie patch, make sure you pick a part of your garden that receives sun, but also has some shelter. http://ow.ly/n3IH50BcLyI
