20.01.2022 NORTH FITTING TIMES FOR WPL AND NPL TEAMS!

20.01.2022 Learning curve continues for coach as Mid Coast eye WPL finals Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. Mick Grass now subscribes to that theory as Mid Coast eyes a surprise Herald Women's Premier League finals berth. Grass was in charge last year and witnessed several lopsided scorelines as his young charges were rarely able to battle physically with most other teams.... But with a new season brought a new outlook on the way he needed to improve his girls as they started the slow climb up the ladder. "This season I've learned that I need to push younger players a bit harder to get them into the physical condition they need to be in to play in a first grade competition," he said. "Our club is very focused on the technical aspects of the game particularly in the youth age groups, but they need to be in the right shape to compete with adult women. "If they're not, they get pushed around too much." Outside of two lopsided scorelines to league-leaders Newcastle Olympic, Mid Coast have been competitive in every match except a 5-1 defeat to Warners Bay. Such a consistent level of performance has shown significant improvement for his side in little more than 12 months. He attributes that to a better understanding of what is required to play in a first grade competition. It's about what you do off the training pitch as much as it is about what you do on it. "You've got to make them understand what the expectations are on them not just at training, but away from training and the extras they do themselves," he said. "It's been pretty evident that some players are thriving and those that didn't are still at the level they were at before, but everyone is lifting to a standard we haven't been at for a fair few years." Mid Coast are two points behind fourth-placed Warners Bay with the two teams battling for the remaining finals position. Grass still feels his side is in control of their own destiny despite a final-round clash with Broadmeadow Magic still to come. The Panthers have Merewether United and Adamstown Rosebud ahead. "We're going to give it our best shot for the next two rounds," Grass said. "If Warners Bay win both their games they'll get in and all we can do is win our last two games and if we can get that done we give ourselves a chance." Regardless of how their 2020 season finishes, Mid Coast are on the improve - the challenge is keeping the playing roster intact. "Those players that were there last year really learned a lot so to be in this position this close to the finals is a testament to how much they've grown," the coach said. "They've got a lot more growth ahead of them; this team won't hit their straps for another three or four years yet." Picture Natasha Ruge, taken by Scott Calvin

18.01.2022 Update from the Chief Health Officer - Community Sporting Activities Please find below an extract from a letter that State Sporting Organisations have just received from the CHO via the Office of Sport. School and community sports activities From Saturday 26 September... From Saturday 26 September, interregional community sporting competitions can recommence without restricting these activities to regions or zones, where there is a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the school or community sporting activity in place. The advice provided in August regarding limiting spectators to one parent per child, and inter-region sport and recreation activities has been removed, however organisations must still ensure their activity is delivered in compliance with the Public Health Order and the COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements. This includes the requirement to adhere to the 500-person limit for community sport activities (including participants, officials and spectators) and/or adhering to the one person per four square metre rule in indoor spaces. Organisations and spectators are to ensure that physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres is maintained between people that do not come from the same household. School and community sports organisations and participants should continue to avoid shared travel arrangements such as car-pooling, along with minimising social gatherings before and after the event. State Sporting Organisations, State Sporting Organisations for People with Disability and other sector organisations need to read the information and determine how the recommendations and advice impact on their activities. To allow an increased number of family and friends to attend community sport finals, organisations may wish to consider reducing the number of matches taking place simultaneously at a facility. Some community sport organisations may choose to still limit spectator numbers at matches, subject to the protocols within their COVID-19 Safety Plans and based on factors such as the size of their venue, match scheduling or hiring requirements placed on them by venue operators. We ask that you have patience and understanding as clubs and associations interpret and implement this advice in the most practical manner for their activities. We appreciate your support in reducing the risk of community transmission at this critical time.

11.01.2022 Great work by Complete Grounds Care - Zone Field looking its best!

11.01.2022 UPDATE - Additional Covid-19 Requirements FMNC can confirm that the travel restrictions will not restrict travel within the zone and do not affect our community competitions. Teams traveling outside our zone are impacted and we are working with those affected on options moving forward. If this affects you, your Club or High Performance coach will be in touch shortly.... ******************************************************* The New South Wales Government has last night advised all sports organisations of some significant new requirements to assist with the overall public health response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The requirements, some of which involve restrictions on travel, have significant ramifications for our player development programs and inter zone competitions. We are working through these implications with our colleagues at Northern NSW Football. We will have more information later today when clearer definitions become available.
