25.01.2022 Up for ADOPTION *not your typical Tortie* Toffee came to us a few months back as a pregnant stray and her beautiful temperament quickly won over one of our nurses who fostered her throughout her pregnancy and until the kittens could be weaned. The kittens have now found homes it is just Toffee who is left!! Toffee has been living with two dogs and has had exposure to children. She may be suitable to a home with another cat with a very slow introduction. She will come sterilised, microchipped, vaccinated and with a flea and worming treatment. (Adoption fee is $220) Toffee is a confident little lady who is looking for a stable home filled with love and kindness If you can offer her this, please send us an email at [email protected] telling us a bit about yourself and why you think you'd be a great fit!

18.01.2022 Isnt Scrappy just the cutest? Here she is all ready to go home after a big day. Scrappy visited us earlier in the week to have her full checkup. At her visit, the vet noted that Scrappys previously quiet heart murmur had gotten louder. Like many cavaliers, Scrappy has mitral valve disease, and over time this can cause the heart muscle to become tired and thin. Using a cardiac ultrasound, we are able to assess whether or not medication is required to help the heart wall to... contract. In these cases we are often able to extend the lives of our patients. Lucky for Scrappy there were no changes to her heart that require medication at this stage. We will keep a close eye on this little cutie over the years, and her owner brings her for 6 monthly visits.

15.01.2022 Did you know that dogs and cats may have sudden vomiting and/or diarrhoea in response to a severe allergic reaction? Cheska was lucky we were open last Sunday! Her mum came home and found that Cheska had vomited and was not herself, so rushed her to the clinic. Cheska had spent some time on the catio that morning. ... On exam Dr Jessie found that she had mild anaphylactic shock - and a bee sting in her lip! The sting was removed, and Cheska was able to go home after a few hours of careful monitoring by nurses Charley and Shanay. She is now back to her normal self we hope you stay away from the spicy flies Cheska!

07.01.2022 The lovely little Maisy paid us a visit last week due to an episode of pancreatitis. Thankfully, after some TLC and spending a couple of days with us, she is doing MUCH BETTER! Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas that occurs when digestive enzymes are activated INSIDE the pancreas, rather than the small intestine. The enzymes start to digest the organ, creating significant pain and the clinical signs seen in your pet. The resulting inflammation causes body-w...ide changes, some of which can be life threatening. In most cases, we cannot identify an inciting cause. Some pets are already at increased risk due to breed (Schnauzers, terriers, some retrievers) or concurrent hormonal disease that affects fat metabolism (hypothyroidism, diabetes or Cushings disease). A very fatty meal can sometimes push a pet with long standing low grade (chronic) pancreatitis into an episode of acute pancreatitis. Pets who have suffered an episode of pancreatitis should be maintained on a restricted fat diet for life. #carefortheanimals

02.01.2022 Chip visited us 10 days ago for a large laceration to the back of her head, inflicted by one of her feathered friends. Chip is much loved by her owners daughter, and they have a very special bond. Chip was in poor condition and Dr Jessie felt she may not survive an anaesthetic, and so the decision was made to attempt staples under local numbing. Chip was an absolute gem for the procedure and even ate a snack between staples (all 14 of them!). Today at her recheck, we rem...oved the staples (with the lure of even more snacks) and shes gained weight and was happily eating fishies during her procedure! Nothing warms our hearts more Video of Chip with her laceration in the comments (mildly graphic). #carefortheanimals #eventhefeatheredones #skinnydogtreats
