24.01.2022 We have been busy trying to integrate this wonderful new modality into practice, we almost forgot to tell you about it. Brian Tuckey is a world leader in Fascial counterstrain and Jonathan and Hayley had the privilege to be tutored and mentored by him in May! Fascial counterstrain gives a holistic, powerful yet simple and painfree tool to our treatment belts, we are so excited to share it with you.

24.01.2022 FOOT GYM Welcome to the first exercise of our Foot Gym program. We thought wed start you off with a simple one. All youll need is a towel and your feet. We hope youre all as excited as we are about reprogramming your feet to be stronger and healthier! Dont forget, there will be a new exercise every day this week so get ready for exercise number 2 tomorrow by getting your feet into the swing of things today. 1. Toe Scrunches... - Lay a towel on the floor in front of you - Place the toes of one foot on the towel and scrunch the toes (like you are creating a fist) to pull the towel towards yourself - Repeat 5-10 times for each foot - You can increase the difficulty of this exercise by placing a small weight at the opposite end of the towel Note: if you experience cramping, ease off to the point where the cramp disappears

24.01.2022 Never underestimate the power of the human touch! 23.01.2022 This morning we have been advised there will be a power disruption between 7am and 9am in Renmark. If you need to contact us between this time please either message via Facebook or email: [email protected] This will also impact the Mildura phone system. Looking forwards to be back on line at 9am!

22.01.2022 FOOT GYM We hope youve all been busy getting your toes scrunching with yesterdays exercise, heres another to get your big toe moving! Todays exercise ...works on isolating the big toe motion independently from your lesser toes. This may be difficult initially, so you can start off holding your lesser toes if required, but try to work up to not having to do so. So here it is, exercise number 2 of our Foot Gym program. 2. Hallux (big toe) Lifts - One foot at a time, focus on lifting your big toe towards yourself - Try to allow only the big toe to lift independently from the lesser toes (holding the lesser toes of necessary) - Hold the lift for approximately 5 seconds and slowly replace toe to floor - Repeat 10 times for each foot

22.01.2022 FOOT GYM Were getting to the pointy end of our Foot Gym program now, so were challenging you with one of Claires favourites for building strong arches. A note to remember, high and low arch positions are neither good nor bad for you and are completely natural positions during normal gait. The issue is when our feet get stuck in these positions. Muscles (along with fascia) are essentially responsible for joint posture, meaning if they are not able to engage properly y...our foot posture falls out of alignment. The Foot Gym exercises will regain some awareness in your feet and work on engaging the muscles for more adaptable and strong feet. So here goes with our 4th exercise of the program. 4. Foot Bridges: - Standing with both feet on the ground, one foot at a time scrunch the forefoot ensuring you focus on a lifting sensation within the arch - Heel must remain on the ground - Aim is to lift through the arch to the point where the apex of your big toe can touch the ground - DO NOT scrunch your big toe underneath to more than 90 degrees - Repeat 5-10 times on each foot NOTE: discomfort and cramping can be common. If this occurs reduce the reps and aim to increase as your body gets used to the exercise or rest until cramping eases then try again

20.01.2022 Quote of the day thanks to Thomas Myers: "The heart of healing lies in our ability to listen, to see, to perceive, more than in our application of technique"

18.01.2022 There is a lot of information available so here is our list of 10 things we advise most of our patients who have Diabetes: 1) Inspect your feet daily. Check for cuts, redness, blistering, swelling or nail problems. Call your podiatrist or doctor if you notice anything. 2) Keep your feet clean by washing them daily in lukewarm (NOT hot) water.... 3) Moisturize your feet daily all over your feet but not between your toes. Using moisturizer will stop the skin from cracking. 4) Cut nails carefully ensuring not to cut too short or too deep into the corners and file edges. If you are unable to manage your own nail care see your podiatrist. 5) Never treat corns or calluses yourself. No bathroom surgery or medicated corn pads. Visit your podiatrist for appropriate treatment. 6) Wear clean, dry socks. Change them daily. 7) Shake out your shoes and feel the inside before wearing. Your feet may not be able to feel a stone or other foreign object, so always inspect your shoes before you put them on. 8) Ensure good management of your diabetes. Keep your blood sugar levels under control. Consult your doctor if you have concerns. 9) Do not smoke. Smoking restricts blood flow in your feet. 10) Get regular foot examinations. Seeing your podiatrist on a regular basis can help prevent the foot complications of diabetes.

17.01.2022 National Diabetes week runs next week from the 13th to the 20th of July. We will be posting some facts and information everyday next week and answering any questions you may have,

17.01.2022 Tradies Did You Know Incorrectly fitting boots can lead to a number of foot conditions that can put your work on halt. Corns, blisters, bunions and plantar fas...ciitis are just some of the conditions that incorrectly fitting work boots can cause. If you are experiencing any foot pain while wearing your work boots, a podiatrist can help you determine if your boots are the cause, what to look for in a work boot, and can treat your feet so that youre back up that ladder in no time! #FHW19 #foothealthau #standupforyourhealth #podiatryaustralia #foothealth

16.01.2022 It is often hard to know when and if you should take your child to see a podiatrist. Here are some signs to look out for. #FHW19 #foothealthau #standupforyourhealth #podiatryaustralia #foothealth

15.01.2022 ***Foot Gym*** Today is our final day for our foot gym exercised. This week was just a small insight to some of our most favourite strengthening exercises fpr the feet... there are so many more. Ultimately the aim is to create a strong stable base for you to stand and walk on. The healthier and stronger the feet are the better they will feel perform! Exercise #5 : Piano... - Aim to work your toes independently of each other - If easier at first work on keeping the big toe and other toes moving seperately - As you become more confident try separating the lesser toes as well - Repeat 10 times each foot See more

15.01.2022 Just like that, the weekend is over! Such an awesome workshop and we cannot wait to implement and integrate some of our new techniques in practice. Thankyou to Cristy at Anatomy Trains AU. Also how wonderful to spend the weekend with birthday boy himself! Happy 50th Jonathan

13.01.2022 FOOT GYM Exercise number 3 of our Foot Gym program is a popular one in our clinic. Working on your balance is essential for strong and healthy feet and can help with every day walking and coordination. Roughly 40% of our gait cycle is spent on one foot, so its important to be able to stay stable and sturdy without the support of both feet on the ground. This exercise will put your balance to the test and we hope over time you find you are able to balance for longer and... longer. 3. Single Leg Balancing - Stand with your feet comfortably apart - Brave your stomach muscles by sucking in your belly button (remember to keep breathing) - Slightly bend one knee and keep your weight to the outside of your foot - Take the opposite foot off the ground and balance - Hold for as long as you can, aiming to increase each time you do the exercise - Repeat for opposite foot

10.01.2022 Feet! They take us through every step of our lives. They are the stable foundation that support us. They let us know when the sand at the beach is too hot and they take a knock here and there. But we can so easily forget about our feet and the importance of looking after them and for people with diabetes, this could be putting our valuable feet at risk of further complications. Foot problems are extremely common and often debilitating for people with diabetes. New research ha...s found that only 5% of Australians over the age of 40 have had a type 2 diabetes risk check in the past two years. Alarmingly over half the individuals surveyed were unable to name any diabetes related complications, such as neuropathy (altered or loss of sensation), vascular disease, ulceration, amputation, and many more health concerns. Its important that people with diabetes undergo regular reviews with their podiatrist to check their foot health and risk status, as well as a good foot care regime. This week, being National Diabetes Week, we will discuss further information regarding diabetes and the feet, steps you can take to reduce your risk and facts related to diabetes. If youre concerned about your feet or are due for a risk assessment, contact the clinic and our friendly staff will be happy to help you in booking an appointment. 08.01.2022 The response to Covid-19 is a rapidly developing situation. Currently we are happy to say that all of our clinics are open and plan to stay that way. To be able to stay open and keep helping our lovely patients we do need some help. We have placed hand sanitiser in the entrances to our buildings for patients to use. We also ask that all patients follow current advice and let us know if they have travelled overseas in the previous 14 days (or have had contact with anyone known... to have CV19), we will be happy to rearrange your appointment if so. If you are feeling unwell please call us to reschedule your appointment! Finally if you start to feel unwell within 14days of your appointment please let us know so we can alert anyone who needs to be aware. Our normal high standard of hygiene both within the clinic and personally is in effect as usual! We have a huge variety of people through our doors including some of the most vulnerable so its imperative that we take extra measures to protect them and our staff, whom without we could not function Thankyou for your help and stay well

08.01.2022 Heel pain - so very common so it must be easy to treat, right? Unfortunately heel pain can be a manifestation of many different conditions, and a lot of the time the pain is not actually coming from an injury to the heel! When we see patients presenting with heel pain we look at the big picture so we can try and achieve the best possible lasting results for our patients. Luckily our podiatrists are trained in manual therapy such as strain/counterstrain, tool assisted massage, mobilisation and manipulation, dry needling as well as gait analysis, gait training and orthotic therapy! This wide variety of treatment options means we can tailor an individual treatment plan for each patient as we understand that every single foot is unique!

08.01.2022 Wishing all of our wonderful patients a safe, healthy and Happy Christmas and New Year. Thankyou to everyone who visits and who brighten our day, we look forward to seeing you in 2019. Clinic re opens on January the 2nd

07.01.2022 Our podiatrists have been busy this week finding more and more ways to help their patients move, so heres our quote of the week, from one of our favourite movement gurus, Thomas Myers (the creator of Anatomy Trains): A movement becomes a habit, a habit becomes a posture and eventually the posture can change our structure.

03.01.2022 It is recommended that all people with Diabetes should have a routine foot check annually, and for some with other risk factors this would be more often. During a routine diabetic foot check your podiatrist will check circulation- there are 2 pulses we test for in each foot, sensation- using a light touch monofilament and a tuning fork. They will look at range of motion and assess for any injuries or issues which need to be monitored. This information allows the podiatrist to provided a treatment plan tailored to each individual. Feet change so very quickly and especially affected by blood glucose levels, making these regular check ups so very important! Make sure you are up to date and make sure to ask you podiatrist to explain anything you dont understand, thats what we are here for.

Beginning Monday we will be putting our feet to the test with a new exercise every day of the week aiming to work on the muscles of our feet to create stronger, healthier feet. We will be posting videos and instructions on how to do each exercise so we invite you all to join in. To make things interesting, here are some before shots of Hayley and Claires feet. We will be doing a 1 month review to compare for changes. So keep your eyes peeled for Mondays post for the first Foot Gym exercise.
