22.01.2022 Wearing a face mask provides an additional physical barrier, and helps to slow the spread of COVID-19. . How to put a mask on: 1 Wash and dry (or sanitis...e) your hands. 2 Take your clean, unused mask by the ear loops or strings. 3 Put them over your ears or tie them behind your head. 4 Make sure your mask is completely covering your nose, mouth and chin. . Don’t touch or adjust the front of your mask while wearing it it’s the part that’s protecting you from COVID-19. If you do touch it by accident, wash or sanitise your hands right away. . How to take a mask off: 1 Wash and dry (or sanitise) your hands. 2 Do not touch the front of your mask while removing it. Use only the ear loops or strings. 3 Store cloth face masks in a plastic bag until you have an opportunity to wash them. When disposing single-use surgical face masks, place in a bag or lined bin. Do not put masks into the recycling bin. 4 Wash and dry (or sanitise) your hands. . To learn more about face masks: www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVIDmasks

09.01.2022 Football in 2020 Its been a weird year and its going to be a weird local football season. Ive heard a lot of people voicing their concerns about the local football season going ahead this year. The main reason? Injuries! Most players will be going into the 2020 season with a limited preseason and therefore a lower strength and fitness base than in previous years. While many players have kept themselves fit during lockdown, some have used the time off to relax. Unfortunately,... this may lead to many players getting hurt. Muscle strains and joint injuries have the potential to become more common in the up coming season. So what can be done? While there isnt enough time to build up a solid fitness and strength base, we can still work to prevent players getting hurt by looking at biomechanics. This is going to be especially useful for those with a history of injury. Sometimes the positioning and flexibility of bones, ligaments and muscles can have negative influences on our bodies. This is especially true in a high impact and multidirectional sport like football. Ankle sprains, shin splints, knee problems and even muscle strains may be, at least in part, related to the biomechanics of your foot and ankle. At Footmed, podiatrists can assess your feet and let you know if they have played a role in past or current injuries. With taping methods, rehab programs, footwear advice and custom made orthotics we can address and help to limit any negative impact your feet may be having on your performance. Dont let a foot(y) stop you playing! Dale Podiatrist. Full back ADELAIDE ph: 83423131 ELIZABETH VALE ph: 82524544 MURRAY BRIDGE ph: 85325744

04.01.2022 Mortons Neuroma is one of the more common procedures Podiatric Surgeon Angelo Salerno performs at Adelaide Ambulatory Day Surgery. Mortons neuroma, is a pathological condition of the common digital nerve, most frequently between the third and fourth metatarsals (third intermetatarsal space). The nerve sheath becomes abnormally thickened with fibrous (scar) The exact cause is not fully understood, but theories propose entrapment of the nerve from adjacent anatomical structu...res such as the bursae and ligaments. Faulty foot mechanics is thought to play a role and increasing compression of the entrapped nerve. A neuroma most often affects women over 50 years of age and aggravated by tight or high-heeled shoes. The condition seems to occur in response to continued long term irritation, pressure or injury to one of the nerves that lead to your toes. The excessive thickening of the nerve (neuroma) is your bodys response to this irritation or injury. In some cases, Mortons neuroma may result from abnormal movement of your foot, caused by bunions, hammertoes, flatfeet or excessive flexibility. Signs of Mortons Neuroma: Pain most commonly in the ball of the foot and affecting one or two of the lesser toes (usually the third and fourth). Pain can sometimes radiate to the top of the foot The pain can be intermittent in nature it may disappear as quickly as it came Pain is often sharp, burning, or cramping in nature Pain may radiate into the tips of the toes or up the foot/ leg Aggravated by tight shoes and prolonged weight-bearing Removing the shoe often relieved the pain. If you have been diagnosed with Mortons neuroma or have symptoms of Mortons neuroma and would like to book a consultation with Angelo Salerno call Footmed Foot and Ankle Clinics - Adelaide 8342 3131 Elizabeth Vale 8252 4544 Murray Bridge 85325744
