08.01.2022 National guidelines to avoiding Diabetic foot complications. Appropriate footwear and custom orthoses play a crucial role in preventing the occurrence of ulceration in the diabetic foot. The Diabetic Foot Australia guideline on footwear for people with diabetes contains 10 critical recommendations regarding appropriate footwear for diabetics.... The recommendations are the result of a critical review and expert consensus effort. The collaborative effort involved experts within the podiatry, endocrinology, human movement science, wound medicine, vascular surgery and pedorthic fields. The authors include our very own Karl Schott. This guideline is a pertinent tool for reducing the rate of ulceration in diabetics. Hailing from the renowned Schuh-Petters orthopaedic shoemaking company in Gera, Uwe is also president of the Thuringia state pedorthic association.
