22.01.2022 Hatching Chicks arrived at Footprints! The Hatching Chicks program provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about the life cycle of chickens from a fertilised egg to a hatchling. The program also provides information about the stages of growth that a chick goes through to become an adult bird, as well as how to manage and care for a healthy and happy chicken. This unique experience is perfect for use at home with the family, in schools and childcare settings, and in aged car...e facilities. All equipment is provided. The kit is delivered to your door and picked up 12 days later after the chicks have hatched and grown their feathers! Children of all ages where able to interact with each chicken. Footprints was also very lucky to receive a beautiful duck egg, we welcomed the duck on the second week and enjoyed watching the duck on his first swim. When children interact with animals, they build the all-important senses of connection, empathy and caring. They feel a sense of responsibility and are curious to find out more about the animal. Footprints loved this experience!

17.01.2022 Footprints Child Care Centre went to visit Engadine RFS today. We travelled by public transport from our centre to Engadine West shops then walked to Engadine RFS next to Ferntree park. We enjoyed a guided tour throughout the premises, climbing into the big fire trucks and of course having a go at the fire hoses! ... We learnt that Firefighters train and keep up to date with news and events in a big room with big televisions. We took a lot of interest in the photos posted on the walls inside this room that’s a navy boat said one of the children as he observed photos of the fire truck on the ship. We took a quick induction lesson before using the hoses, learning where the water tanks are located and how long the water pumps run for (3 minutes each round for those wanting to know). What do you think we use hoses for? Asked the firefighter. I know, to put out fires said one of the children. We also learnt that water used at Engadine RFS is all tank water. WOW! All this adventure before heading to the park for lunch in the shade and a bus back to Footprints. WOW, what an adventure we had today!

17.01.2022 It’s sea week this week and what better way to learn then from an Incursion. Rangers on the run visited Footprints today! Our ranger brought to us a variety of different sea animals to feel and get to know, some of these included a starfish, mussels, sea shells and fish! ... Some of us thought the fish was a little stinky whilst others had no issues getting in and feeling around! Rangers on the Run provides environmental education programs which are designed to teach audiences of all ages about native animals and the wonders of nature. Shows and displays are totally interactive and allow every participant to touch or hold a wide range of animals and related artefacts. We had an incredible time and look forward to hearing many more stories of the children’s experience as the day goes on. Thanks Rangers on the run!

16.01.2022 Science week For kids of all ages, the benefits are enormous. Doing science projects helps develop a child's resourcefulness, particularly their skills at goal-setting, planning, and problem-solving. It also nurtures intellectual curiosity, helping children acquire new ways of asking questions and understanding the world. This week the Little stars and Busy Bees experimented with reactions! Using Bi-Carb soda, vinegar and food colouring we created our very own volcano. ... As an extension to dinosaurs from interests observed around the room we added dinosaurs to interact with! The Tiny Tots explored the reactions of different things put together. Using Bi-carb soda, vinegar and food colouring. We felt the liquid and popped the bubbles. How fun!

15.01.2022 At Footprints Child Care Centre, the 2-5-year-olds have been participating in regular excursions to our local oval and park for the past six years. The 0-2-year-olds have now joined the regular excursions with our new 2x multi-seater strollers, allowing educators to fit four children in each stroller! The children at Footprints Child Care Centre enjoy the 4-minute walk to Woronora Heights Oval while exploring the community, participating in physical activities and finishing off the morning with a play at the park!

15.01.2022 StEPS visited Footprints! The StEPS program is an initiative of NSW Health and offers all 4 years old children free vision screening. NSW Health advises all children to have their vision screened before they start school and strongly recommends that all four year old children participate in the vision screening program. Why would my child need their vision screened?... * Children rarely complain of eye problems or realise that they can’t see well. The only way to tell if a child has a vision problem is to have the child’s vision tested one eye at a time. Did you know? * If a child has a ‘lazy eye’ it may lead to severe vision loss or blindness in that eye if not treated * If a child has a vision problem, the earlier the problem is detected and treated the better the vision outcome * If parents wear glasses or had vision problems as a child their children are more likely to have vision problems too * After a certain age, some childhood vision problems cannot be treated and the child will have poor vision for the rest of their life - glasses won’t help * Low birth weight babies and children with neurological problems are at a greater risk of developing eye problems How can my child access the StEPS program? Your Local Health District visits preschools and child care centres to offer all four year old children a free vision screening. To have your child's vision screened, you will need to complete a consent form and return it to your child's preschool/childcare centre.

13.01.2022 Footprints Child Care Centre celebrated our 7 year Anniversary and as coincidence it fell on Early Childhood Educators day too! Thank you to our wonderful families for being you and allowing us to do what we do, we celebrated by having a coffee and milkshake van for families to enjoy during drop off this morning from the wonderful Linda (The Coffee Van). We also enjoyed a jumping castle and sausage sizzle with the children during the day. We even had a special visit from... Snow White and Spider-Man! Being a family means you are a part of something very wonderful. It means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life. Family and friends are hidden treasures, seek them out and enjoy their riches. Our Footprints family is one in a million and we wouldn’t have it any other way! A massive thank you to our face painter Deb for the amazing work as always, and also Snow White and Spider-Man for popping in for lots of fun and games. An incredible mention to our amazing educators, if it weren’t for the long hours, dedication, love and support you provide endlessly day in and day out none of this would be possible. THANK YOU! Another MASSIVE mention for our incredible director, owner, and friend Christina Nnano. Without the vision, direction, love and attention you give to families, educators and the business we wouldn’t be as special as we are. Thank you for being YOU! Here is to many more years of fun, love and adventures!

13.01.2022 Educators play a vital role in the lives of children. They help mold young minds and encourage children to challenge themselves on a daily basis. Parents trust us to look after their little ones and help them grow to become intelligent, caring people. It’s a job that requires lots of patience, understanding and a lifetime of dedication. With all that they do, it’s only right that we let our educators know how much they are appreciated.

11.01.2022 Grandparents Day 2020! On Thursday 5th March we invited our grandparents to attend Footprints with their grandchildren. Each grandchild made special presents to give to their grandparents. We enjoyed slime fun at the tables as well as exploring giant insects. Oh no it’s a bug invasion said one of the children. ... We had Deb from Shire face painters to make us all look super amazing. I look so cool said one of the children, oh no a spider said another when they saw the paint! Big thank you to Deb! We would like to thank Helen and Rod for another amazing year of Woodfire pizza. They braved the rain to make us all their wonderful pizzas and we couldn’t be more blessed. Thank you! Amore Mobile Woodfired Pizza

10.01.2022 Pancake Day At Footprints Child Care Centre, educators cook pancakes for the children every Monday from 7 am to 8 am for breakfast. Yesterday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe. It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter. We added fruit, syrup, jam, and we even made rainbow pancakes! Everyone was super excited to get involved in making the pancakes and of course, eating the pancakes!

06.01.2022 Valentine’s Day 2020 We asked our Footprints families for volunteers to come in and do some special activities with our children on Valentine’s Day. We had an amazing response from each room’s parents. ... Tiny Tots got to mix up delicious short bread biscuits with Jarrod. Little Stars chatted and decorated arrowroot biscuits with red icing sugar and love heart edible confetti with Renee, Elyse, Apeksha and Jodi. Meanwhile the Busy Bees engaged in story time and making chocolate crackles with Janet and Michelle! A BIG THANK YOU to all parents that joined us. Ongoing research shows that family engagement in schools improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores parents' confidence in their children's education. Students with involved parents or other caregivers earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, and show improved behavior. We look forward to many more special events within Footprints Child Care Centre

05.01.2022 A big thank you to 'Advance Mobile Dental' for visiting Footprints Child Care Centre in Woronora Heights. Advance Mobile Dental did a small group time on dental hygiene, teaching the children about good foods and sometimes foods and asked lots of open ended questions to challenge the childrens knowledge on dental hygiene. The children also got to brush Ollie the Dragon's teeth with a huge tooth brush. To conclude their visit, Advance Mobile Dental did a quick check up on each child and sent their feedback form home for all families

Wet and Wild week is an awesome opportunity to discuss water safety too

02.01.2022 ENGADINE LIBRARY VISIT Footprints Child Care Centre took an adventure to Engadine Library, starting with a short walk to our local bus stop. Looking out the window of the bus we noticed lots of trees and cars. Upon arrival to Engadine we disembarked the bus lining up for a photo. A short stroll to the library we found ourselves being introduced to our librarian. The children then followed the Librarian to a quiet area where they could sit and listen to some stories, sing so...me songs and also watch a film animation. They started off by singing the library’s story time welcome song. After singing the welcome song, the Librarian read the children 3 different books Fancy Dress Farmyard, Dear Zoo and That Fruit is Mine. The librarian also showed the children a film animation called Harry the Dirty Dog that the children really enjoyed! After our morning at the library, we then went outside to the library nook to have some yummy sandwiches for lunch, before heading back to Footprints for their midday nap and rest. Thank you so much to our wonderful librarian for a fantastic day!
