25.01.2022 The band, joined by our awesome friends Western Brass, had a fantastic time playing at the Melbourne Zoo Christmas Concert Series today. And we beat the rain! Thanks everyone who came down and supported us

25.01.2022 Live right now! Due to the current Covid-19 circumstances in Australia, and with many borders closed and travel on hold, the New Zealand Nationals 2020 competition was cancelled a few months ago. However, to cheer us up and bring some solidarity to brass bands around the pan-pacific, Brassbanned are streaming a New Zealand Virtual Brass Band Championships right now! Check it out:... https://www.youtube.com/watch

24.01.2022 What a fantastic night the band had at the 25th anniversary of the Yarraville Garden Carols. A magical night filled with fantastic music, food, stalls, four bands plus amazing choir, finishing off with the Hallelujah Chorus finale and fireworks! Special thanks to David Palmer, the carols coordinator. He and his father have been running this carols night for all twenty-five years!

19.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE - Erin Ellenburg <3 #cutthemustard

19.01.2022 We held our AGM recently, where we reflected on one of the biggest years the Band has had in recent memory. We went on our first international tour in decades, which was epic to say the least, and our groups including Western Brass (WB) and the newly formed Footscray-Yarraville City Percussion Academy (FYCPA) continued to perform throughout the community at a variety of events. Our MD of ~15 years, Phillipa Edwards, departed and is now MD of our friends at Kew Band Melbourne.... We thank her for her instrumental role in the development of WB, FYCPA, and the role she played in linking FYCB with the Hyde Street Youth Band. We also thank her for being the driving force behind the highly successful Silent Anzac Tour, and we wish her well with all future endeavours. We also thank our outgoing committee members from 2018/2019, some of whom have recently departed the group; Jamie Lawson, Colin Harrison, Steve Semmler-Farr, Nicole Tweddle and Heather Allan. And now we are pleased to announce our incoming committee for 2019/2020. President: Emily Zitkevicius Vice President: John Cornish Treasurer: Brenton Burley Secretary: Kathryn Cooper Committee Members: Byron Crump, Greg Keane, Katie Thomas, Peter Murnane, Sam Tapner and Steele Foster. We look forward to working with our MDs Louisa Trewartha (FYCB), Erin Ellenburg (WB) and Katie Thomas (FYCPA). See you on stage!

17.01.2022 The Footscray band is proud to have been awarded the best brass band in the Anzac Day march 2019. The award comes just as the band is heading off to the Bendigo Eisteddfod - what a send off! Im very honoured to accept this award on behalf of the band a great result for a great band. ... Thank you all for your efforts #ProudtobeaScragger - John Cornish See more

17.01.2022 Last week the Footscray-Yarraville City Band had the absolute honour of marching at the 100th anniversary of the Footscray RSL. As you can see, it was quite a warm day with some sitting and waiting to march. But this ended up being a fairly high profile gig, with all the local members there. "Thankfully John Cornish convinced the police to march us down the service lane rather than busy Geelong Road!" - Kathryn Cooper, Secretary and Principal Baritone.

16.01.2022 Applications for the position of MD for Western Brass close tomorrow! 5pm AEST.

15.01.2022 As part of our upcoming move, the bands of the Hyde Street Band Hall came together on the weekend for a working bee. Memorabilia was carefully packed up to take, everything was labelled and we filled two whole skips!! Amazing what we found hidden in all the nooks and crannies.... Keep your eyes peeled for details of a garage sale coming up...

14.01.2022 Another update on our move last week from our old band hall into Victoria University. Two truck loads full, a broken down elevator, lots of stairs and lots of sweat.. but behold! Our new venue! (Pictured). A massive thank you to Kathryn, Byron, Brenton, Emily F., and Winifred!!

11.01.2022 Good morning - we are about to go live with Wellington Brass Band's 2019 Own Choice performance of Titan's Progress! Join us for the 2020 New Zealand Virtual Br...ass Band Championships at www.brassbanned.com. 10.01.2022 Social distancing measures meant Anzac Day events this year were unable to be held as normal, and saw an idea for musicians to help commemorate by playing The Last Post in their driveways. Many Footscray-Yarraville City Band members joined in, and we hope wherever you are you were able to commemorate the day in your own special way. Here we have a video of one of our Euphonium players Peter Murnane.... Lest We Forget.

09.01.2022 A great Friday evening performing in the Doggies Fan Zone at Whitten Oval for the AFLW. We played heaps of tunes, but this is the one they really wanted to hear!! We managed to avoid the rain as well.

08.01.2022 We are excited to get out and about tomorrow with our friends from Western Brass and play at the Melbourne Zoo as part of their 25 days of Christmas Community Concerts!

07.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE - welcome Jared!

07.01.2022 Its not every day you get mentioned in Parliament! Thank you Tim Watts MP for all your encouragement and support of our recent European Tour!

07.01.2022 DAY EIGHTEEN - flying home!! The band is officially home in Melbourne, Australia after a wonderfully successful tour. Thank you to everyone for your support and love for the band - there are many people we could not have done this without.... Stay tuned for post-tour follow-ups!

07.01.2022 This is the first in many years that our band has been unable to come together as a group to pay respect to all who have served and sacrificed. However, band members have been individually commemorating the occasion by performing the Last Post and observing a minute silence at 6am outside their homes. Here is a short video of the ceremony from Heath Cemetery, France in 2018 during Footscray-Yarraville City Bands historic European tour, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of the war. Lest We Forget.

06.01.2022 Fantastic rehearsal last night in preparation for the Bendigo Competition in a few weeks!

06.01.2022 The band rehearsing for the carols last week. THIS IS TONIGHT!! See you there https://www.facebook.com/events/1019754948372656/

06.01.2022 Feeling a bit lost this Easter? In lock down, with no live Band Nationals to watch like normal? Well here is the perfect antidote - our friends at Brassbanned have trawled the depths of their archives to bring us ultimate viewing pleasure from years past... Who said social isolation cant be social?

03.01.2022 We have found another fantastic review praising our Silent Anzac tour and concerts, this one in particular from our performance in Australia House, London on Remembrance Day. Peter Bale has, in this descriptive review, found the show "a powerful, emotional experience". "The Silent Anzac gained an emotive performance that encapsulated both the turmoil of war... as well as its moments of calm". Well done again to Phillipa Edwards (Musical Director), Jamie Lawson (Principal c...ornet and Soldier); William McInnes (Poet); Margaret Haggart (Mother), Danielle Matthews (Girl) & Joe Stanley (Soldier). 03.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE: Musical Director Appointment. We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Louisa Trewartha to the position of Musical Director of the Footscray-Yarraville City Band. Louisa will lead us at the Victorian State Band Championships in Ballarat this Saturday, and we are looking forward to working closely with her for years to come! 03.01.2022 Western Brass are looking for a new MD!

02.01.2022 What an exciting week for the band! We started the year off going straight into gigs while also moving our whole entire band hall into a new venue (old venue pictured). Here is a members post from the pack up day last week: "Big day for FYCB today. We marched at the 100th anniversary of the Footscray RSL and finished sorting the band room. All of our history has been saved, and even the beer. Thanks to all of you over the year who have helped sort the band room. The library... has never been in better condition, and we found some amazing stuff we didnt know we had that will be put into use." - Kathryn Cooper, Secretary and Principal Baritone. More updates to come - stay tuned!
