24.01.2022 Last night we had 11 crews in the Distance Handicap and 4 paddlers doing the social paddle. The conditions were quite mild with a slow in-coming tide that had little effect on boat speed. Wed Night Social Paddle: Brenton (our Club President) was accompanied by Shelly, Janis and Jonathan, and they paddled to Angler’s Inn and back just under 6 Kms. Jonathan used the social paddle to try out his balance in the Club’s Rebel 50, and he loved it, so I guess he might be racing in... the Rebel 50 next week? The two social paddles last weekend (into the bay on Saturday , and over to the city and Herring Island on Monday) went very well despite the rainy conditions on Monday see the club’s Facebook for photos. Distance Handicap: We had some impressive performance last night. 7 crews under the nominal 50 minute race, 4 crews showing consistent times by remaining within their handicap, and only 1 demotion. 6 paddlers improved on their best speeds this season, and Timofey was just 0.11 Km/Hr below his best ever speed. Paul got back above 11 Km/hr again (so he must be getting more comfortable in his new K1). Vinnie and Stew set new records (with Vinnie still holding 3 OC1 records). 6 people got promoted. Fiona had a sore wrist and seemed to have a little difficulty in her first TK1 Distance Handicap race but she is likely to improve on her next TK1 race. Aneil found that the higher handicap was a bit of a strain, but he still managed to improve his speed and get promoted again. With all the promotions this week, next week should see some tight competition coming down to the finish line. We only have 3 Distance Handicaps before the end of daylight saving, so don’t miss out. The next Distance Handicap and Wednesday night social paddle will be on Wednesday 17 Mar 21.

24.01.2022 The sun was on our side this morning, pity we can't say the same for the wind...... With Brenton and Paul heading the class, our Come and Try participants handled the session well albeit having to challenge the wind and current wanting to constantly put them to the banks. Everyone enjoyed the beauty that our club and river has to offer, a great time had by all.

24.01.2022 What a great turn out and fantastic weather for tonight's Handicap Races. Here's a handful of snaps taken during the evening.

23.01.2022 Hi All, We had 10 boats, in last Wednesday night’s Distance Handicap, even though a few regulars couldn’t make it. The handicaps are getting better with half the paddlers within 1 minute of the nominal 50 minute race, and nearly all within 2 minutes. Adele and Gayle set a new TK2 Vet record, and new-comer, Stephen put in a sterling effort to break an existing TC1 record on an optimistic handicap considering the number of turns in a TC1 lets see if he can improve on his spe...ed even further. Craig and Jonathan have improved on their best speeds for this year, and Vinnie was just 0.01 under his best OC1 speed. Unfortunately John mistakenly paddled his OSR1 handicap distance in a K1, so his average speed has been used to work out his time for the course he should have paddled hence he came 9th not 1st, - sorry John. The next Distance Handicap will be on Wednesday 16 Dec 20.

21.01.2022 Another fantastic evening for handicap racing tonight, albeit with a bit of wind. A few mixed crews this week helping to add a bit more excitement. It's apparent that poking your tongue out makes you go faster and having a smile helps too. 392 images taken tonight, but here's quick grab of the selection.

20.01.2022 The Footscray Canoe Club is pleased to announce that we are able to open the club as of Monday June 22 2020, in a restricted manner. In accordance with state and governing body guidelines, we have come up with a Safety Management Plan and new club by-laws, in order to ensure an orderly and safe return to our sport. All members have been emailed with details for returning to using Club facilities under our new by-laws. Big thanks to our Stewart Nicol and the FCC Committee for all the hard work in putting this plan together and getting the endorsement of all our parent organisations. Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the water!

19.01.2022 Great turnout for the first night race!

19.01.2022 For those members who were intending to take part in the 2020 Paddle Aus Canoe Marathon Champs in April, this event has now been postponed. Please see their notice:

18.01.2022 To all FCC members and racing members of other clubs, please note that we have regretfully cancelled this year's Salty Single Blader Race scheduled for Sunday 26 July 2020, due to the current health crisis. Our next race event is the Salty TK & Rec Challenge, scheduled for Dec 6 2020. Hoping you can all join us then!

17.01.2022 Perfect conditions today for our first Come and try sessions since re-opening the doors. Another great class with Gayle taking the lead teaching our first comers how to be safe and enjoy the water. A great day had by all.

17.01.2022 WOW... Another spectacular evening of Kayak racing @ FCC. A good number of racers taking part in sensational conditions once again. A couple of new faces joining which was great to see. You don't need to be a racer to take part, all you need is the will to better yourself. Anyone wanting their full collection of Hi-Res photos, please comment request below.

16.01.2022 The city paddle took a divert today and headed for the bay. After dealing with the swell for about an hour, a hard earned breaky was demolished before the 12km return journey.

13.01.2022 Sorry about the delay - the 2020 Saltwater Classic results are up! https://footscray.paddle.org.au//2020-Saltwater-Classic-Re

10.01.2022 Hi All, For our third Distance Handicap this season we had another good turn out with 12 boats, 4 doubles and 8 singles. Conditions were good, though the wind did seem to slow some, especially on the turns. Rebecca set a new record on her first distance handicap, and Neil and Haydn also set a new record in their first time together in a Distance Handicap. Brendan put in a strong effort, but he was still short of Dom’s record, set 6 years ago (something to aim for Brendan?).... Four crews were promoted and six crews demoted (though not by much). The next Distance Handicap will be on Wednesday 9 Dec 20. Also don’t forget we have our TK and Rec Salty races this Sunday. This will be the first Marathon race conducted in the Melbourne Metropolitan area since the COVID-19 restrictions have been eased. There will be three 6 km races a little over an hour apart Race 1: Men’s singles and Women’s doubles, Race 2: Women’s singles and Men’s doubles, and Race:3 Mixed doubles. Only Touring Kayaks and Recreation craft are allowed. So why not bring out those old TK boats and sea kayaks and give it a go? All entries must be on line before the race. If you are not racing this will be a chance for club members to clock up some helper hours in support of the races let Uby know if you can help out.

05.01.2022 To All Footscray Canoe Club Members Acting on advice and direction from Rowing Victoria, Paddle Victoria and local councils, the Footscray Boat Club house (including affiliated club areas) will be closed to all members and guests from 7 pm Wednesday 25 Mar 2020, and will remain closed until further notice. Access codes to external doors and some internal doors will be changed to enforce this closure. If any member wishes to retrieve their own boat or any of their personal pad...dling equipment, they will have until 7 pm Wednesday 25 Mar 2020 to do so. No access will be allowed after this time except under exceptional circumstances and by arrangement through the FBC / FCC committee. During this time of closure, the boom gate will be left up and the carpark and pontoon will be available to those who may wish to undertake private training in accordance with Victorian Government directions and requirements. Members will be notified by email if there are any changes to this closure. Stay safe everyone, Footscray Canoe Club Committee

04.01.2022 It's that time of month again where it's time to kick back and relax. Our social paddle is this Saturday 7th @ 9:30am. Please comment below if you're coming so we can ensure we have plenty of muffins on board for you.....

04.01.2022 Another couple for Sunday's Come and try. Absolutely sensational conditions for their first paddle experiences. Flat calm water, no wind and grey skies... well except for a couple of quick edited enhancements.......

01.01.2022 This Saturday (10 Apr 21) starting at 10 am we will be holding a deep water re-entry training session in front of the clubhouse for Club members. Gayle our resident sea kayaker will be conducting the session. The session will be aimed at giving initial basic skills and knowledge on how to undertake assisted and unassisted re-entry in deep water. Anyone planning to paddle in the bay or the harbour crossing to the city/Docklands should be well practiced in these skills before ...attempting such a venture. If you happen to capsize in an area where you are unable to easily reach a safe re-entry point, these skills could save your life. All club members can attend, and it is free of charge. Training will mainly be conducted with recreational kayaks and skis, but some may also wish to practice their deep water re-entry with racing kayaks and out riggers. People not directly involved in the deep water re-entry exercise may be asked to provide stand-by rescue assistance from sit-on kayaks or SUPs. Come prepared to get wet; (and wear something to protect your feet, in case you have to go to the bank to get out). Hope to see you there and bring your camera, as it should be entertaining.

01.01.2022 Another cracking night for our handicap racing albeit a tad windy. Great to see a few new faces making an appearance.
