18.01.2022 Unfortunately tonight FCRC received the following update from Rowing Victoria: On behalf of the Board of Rowing Victoria Effective immediately Rowing Victoria are postponing all RV sanctioned and operated events & competitions until further notice.... RV has made the decision to take further precautions in the interest of the health and wellbeing of our community. Our goal is to avoid bringing crowds together in order to help contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and minimise the inevitable strain on our healthcare system. This decision is based on expert medical advice and is in line with the recommendations of the national rowing community and national health statements. We realise this may cause inconvenience in the short-term however, our objective is ensuring our community remains healthy and strong. We will continue to keep you updated and thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time for all of us. As a result the Saltwater Regatta next weekend is cancelled. A huge thanks to all our members who supported this Regatta with entries and/or volunteering. Onwards to next season

03.01.2022 Footscray City Rowing Club featured heavily in this year Rowing Victoria awards and we are delighted to both advise of and congratulate Reg McKay on being awarded Life Membership to Rowing Victoria in recognition of his contribution to rowing in Victoria over more than 40 Years. Reg is a Life Member, previous Committee Member, and past President at the Footscray City Rowing Club and has also has previously served as President of Rowing Australia and Chairman of the Rowing Vic...toria Committee. Reg also has a very long list of officiating accolades, ranging from our very own Footscray Regatta all the way up to the Olympic Games Jury. Full details of these accolades can be viewed online here; https://rowinghistory-aus.info/rower-profiles/mckay-reginald Congratulations Reg, truly deserved and we look forward to toasting this announcement with you at the Club very shortly. Congratulations also to our Club Captain Tony Lawless who has won the Rowing Victoria Bob Duncan Award for Outstanding services to Umpiring. In addition to volunteering as a Junior Coach and Captain at FCRC, Tony is a Rowing Victoria Senior Umpire, spending most of his weekends during Regatta season co-ordinating and officiating at Regattas across the State. Great recognition for the dedication shown to this volunteer role, a service that not only benefits the Footscray City Rowing Club but all of the Rowing Victoria fraternity. This year our female masters rowers have had a clean sweep of the first three places with Leonie Richards winning the Female Masters Rower of the year Award with a total of 24 points, eclipsing Penny Rattray and Amanda Wilson who tied for second place with a total of 18 Points. Congratulations Leonie on a well deserved win and along with both Penny and Amanda you all are clearly leading the way for masters rowing at FCRC but also across the State. Congratulations also to our junior rower Samuel Wilson who was the runner up in the Male Grade Rower of the Year. With a total of 71 points across the season Sam was 1 point short of the winner and perhaps if Covid-19 had not cancelled our very own Regatta he might have claimed the title. Sam has set his sights on some far bigger rowing prizes in the coming season and we look forward to celebrating your successes along the way. Congratulations once again to everyone on your achievements and for being an excellent representative of the Footscray City Rowing Club.
