25.01.2022 As our entire community is now using face masks, it's important that we dispose correctly. Single-use masks, gloves and tissues are single-use only so please di...spose of them in a rubbish bin, not recycling bin. As part of this disposal process, please remember to always wash or sanitise your hands immediately after handling these items and touching your bin. 24.01.2022 This Thursday is RUOK Day. You can take it as an opportunity to do something for yourself and someone else. Do you realise that every week you can go in the running to win home delivered books and pizzas? All you need to do is check out the competitions here. Just for this week, there's a new competition where you can win a pizza for a friend. In 100 words or less, describe why you think your friend deserves a pizza using the form linked below.... Are they studying really hard in Year 12? Have you noticed that they might need cheering up? Do they just really love pizza? Do you think they simply deserve something kind done for them? Get your entries in by 9pm, this Wednesday 9 September and your friend will go in the running to receive 1 of 25 home delivered pizzas. Winners will be announced on Thursday for RUOK Day. This opportunity has been made available as a result of a generous donation from the Western Wells charitable foundation. https://www.google.com/url

22.01.2022 Happy National Tree Day everyone! Today is the big day to show a little appreciation for your local environment. Although usually we would be out planting trees (see the pic from last year), this year will be a bit different. If you get a chance, you can participate in a few activities at home like hugging a tree (yes really and we want proof) or sending a tree a love letter. Why not spend a moment today to appreciate a tree! See below for more details: Hug a tree ...for National Tree Day- Get outside and hug a tree to show your appreciation for the environment. Photos can be shared on social media. Write a love letter to a tree Melbourne City Council has every tree in the CBD catalogued with an email address associated with individual trees. Email a tree and see if they reply! http://melbourneurbanforestvisual.com.au/#mapexplore (click on the dots on the map to get individual tree email addresses) Example love letters - https://www.abc.net.au//people-are-emailing-trees/10468964

13.01.2022 Theres more to say after ruok? So make sure you are available to keep the conversation going if someone needs to talk. 13.01.2022 Period 1 on Friday the 21st August will be Bring your Pet to Class session. This is an opportunity for you to share the joys of having or being around pets. If you dont have a pet use your initiative, you can borrow one, bring a pet rock or plant or even a toy. Your teachers are all looking forward to seeing your pets and they will bring their pets as well.... The perks of pets 1. They reduce stress Research shows that owning a pet can lower blood pressure, reduce stress/anxiety, and improve mood and depressive symptoms. 2. They promote creativity Pets are another great reason to get up and moving. Pets will likely need to go outside during the day. They will need food or water. Having a pet with you can be a great way to force you to stay active during the day. Research at Stanford University showed that walking increases creative thinking by about 60%. Taking a pet for a walk during breaks is a good way to increase creativity. 3. They create happiness
13.01.2022 FHS is a Dyslexia Aware School. Dyslexia affects at least 1 in 10 people. It can range from mild to severe and is not related to, nor does it affect IQ. Dyslexia is lifelong, however, with the appropriate accommodations, all students can thrive. Code Read Network is a great resource to learn more about it. https://codereadnetwork.org/
13.01.2022 Lovely words of support from Tim Watts for the class of 2020
12.01.2022 If students can understand what contributes to success, and the power that they have to engage with that success, regardless of what it is, then they can pursue any dream that they have. And that's really important to me, and I'm very passionate about that. If they have that self-belief, then they can do anything. Meet Maria Chrisant, Pilgrim Campus Principal

09.01.2022 School closure update as sent on compass: School closed for another 48 hrs Classes are all remote 7-12 from tomorrow until advised otherwise. Dear students, parents and carers,... As you are aware, Footscray High School was advised of a reported case of coronavirus (COVID-19) and was closed for 24 hours from 28 July as a precautionary measure. This case has been reported to the Department of Education and Training (DET), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is currently undertaking further investigation. The school will now remain closed from July 29 for a further 48 hours. The school will be closed to all students, staff and members of the community. This means that even the following categories of students are not able to attend school, until I advise you differently: students in years 11 and 12 students in Year 10 for VCE or VCAL classes students who require on-site supervision including children whose parents cannot work from home and where no other arrangements can be made, vulnerable children and children with a disability. All staff will work from home during this time also. While our school is closed and as from tomorrow 29th July all classes 7-12 will operate remotely until advised otherwise The closure will also allow appropriate cleaning of the school site. While DHHS conducts further investigation, all staff and students are asked to stay at home until further advice is provided. At this stage staff and students do not need to seek testing unless you develop symptoms. More information: I am very aware that this is a time of heightened anxiety for us all. The people best placed to answer your questions are the DET staff who are supporting us. You can contact them on the coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663, Monday to Friday, during business hours. If you call them, please be clear that you are calling in relation to Footscray High School, and they will provide as much information as they can. For school information in your language, call TIS National on 131 450. Please ask them to call the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663 and they will help interpret. For health advice in other languages visit www.dhhs.vic.gov.au. Thank you for your support, and I will provide any further information as soon as I receive any updates.
