18.01.2022 Sesamoiditis: An inflammation of the tendon which is located under the big toe joint, the ball of the foot. Typically affects physically active young people, but seen across all ages. Most common in players of balancing or pivoting sports such as ballet, netball and cricket. Can be caused by high arches, excess pronation (rolling in) or arthritic changes.... Sesamoiditis is irritation of the tendons that run under the big toe (and Sesamoid bones), which help pull the big toe to the ground, stabilise it and push off again. Treatment can include ice, rest, supportive shoes and orthotics, stretching & strengthening exercises. At Footsense Podiatry, we see and help lots of people with Sesamoiditis, its quite common and there are various ways to manage it. We always take your vocational, financial and social factors into account when recommending any treatments. Players of high impact sport (especially soccer) Heel bone grows faster than the muscles and ligaments, causing over stretching & pain.... Usually felt in the achilles tendon area. Treat with ice, rest, supportive shoes and orthotics, stretching & strengthening exercises.
