22.01.2022 Hi everyone, time for an update. I’ve had a port put in on Monday...fingers crossed it makes it easier all round. Chemo on Tuesday and then I was admitted into SJOG to help combat the nausea and vomiting. IV fluids helped overnight as did IV Ondansetron. Back home Thursday, feeling really fatigued but not unexpected as with having a general anaesthetic on Monday as well. Hair steadily falling out and doubtful it will last..Elise has given me a haircut today! Thanks for sharing with me. Xxxxxxxx

22.01.2022 This page has been created to help family and friends follow Foz's journey to beating breast cancer (and to help us manage communication to everyone!). The discovery and diagnosis has been very quick - all in a fortnight actually. Bendigo's health services are truly amazing. Foz has had surgery today and is recuperating in St John of God. Everything went very well. No further details are available as yet. We'll post again when we know more.... Thank you for all of your support and love. We're blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives. #letsbeatcancer

21.01.2022 Hi everyone, I’ve been back to see the Surgeon and my news is positive. The tumour has been completely removed, and the lymph nodes are clear. So I am very fortunate because the surgical part of the treatment is complete!!! Due to the type of tumour that was removed, it’s highly likely that chemo will be recommended and then radiation treatment. I have an appointment with the Oncologist next week to see what is needed as follow up treatment. So all in all, a very good result. XO Foz

15.01.2022 Hello everyone, an update for the week which has been pretty quiet. Just recuperating post op, spending time on the couch and sleeping a lot. I've been so lucky to have Tim home with me this week, and the house is full of good food and beautiful flowers.....I have a great deal of support surrounding me. We are expectantly waiting for the pathology results which will determine the course of action, and hopefully my surgeon will have some answers for us tomorrow. I continue to be so very grateful for all the help we are receiving.xx

14.01.2022 Hello friends, Day 1 of Chemo has been completed. The Oncology staff treated me like royalty...I had a great experience in there and wore the cold cap with the hope of saving my hair. The cold cap cools your head down to about 3 or 4 degrees, constricting the blood vessels in the scalp, and hindering the chemotherapy agent from passing through to the hair follicles. Chemo finished about 4.30 pm, but unfortunately the evening and night was no picnic. Nausea and vomiting throughout most of the night. Seeing my GP today to get some more anti emetics. Feeling pretty wrung out today. Hoping to feel better soon. Thanks for sharing with me. Foz. Xxxx

14.01.2022 Now home again after surgery yesterday. I’m sore but the pain medications are doing wonders. I am being looked after really well. The staff at St John of God were terrific and I woke up from the anaesthetic just like I had woken up from a nice sleep. Surgery went for about 3 hours. We won’t know any more pathology results till about 10 days time. Thanks for all the prayers, love and support.xxxxx Foz

13.01.2022 Good evening friends, I’ve been to see the oncologist today. He’s advising me to have 6 months of chemotherapy followed by radiation treatment. Probably longer than what I had in mind but I trust his judgment and am happy to be guided by his vast knowledge and experience. So the six month journey will probably begin next week. Thanks for sharing the journey with me so far and I will continue to keep you all updated. Xxxx Foz

11.01.2022 Day 8 of my chemo journey... in a word....obliterated. The true ramifications of chemo are harsh... I take my hat off to those who have done this before me. I knew the side effects would be difficult, I didn’t expect to have them challenge me as mentally as they have. It’s like being jet lagged, hungover and suffering from morning sickness. You know you need to eat, but there is still an air of nausea, a loss of appetite and most foods taste metallic. Sense of smell is all po...werful and not in a good way....reminiscent of first trimester aversions to many many foods. Dry and sore mouth doesn’t miss out either, which means paying attention to frequent mouth washes with Bi carb, before the situation gets worse and you end up with thrush... which is painful. The lack of clarity and presence of fatigue, plays havoc with your decision making capabilities, so getting nothing done quickly is a recurring theme. Throw in some borderline constipatory issues and blurred vision and it’s not at all a picnic. To be repeated again soon. If I didn’t have you lot here with me it wouldn’t be at all tolerable. I guess we’re in it together. See more

08.01.2022 Hi everyone, today would have been round 3 of chemo but treatment is delayed as I have a gum infection. Unfortunately I have a wisdom tooth which has decided to erupt/move last week and it’s provided a nice little pocket for bacteria to hide. So whilst I was neutropenic last week, the infection took hold and I’m now on antibiotics and feeling much improved. That’s another thing I wouldn’t wish on anyone..a gum infection. It’s no fun crying and eating at the same time..the pai...n was awful. And now to work out how to move forward...with taking the tooth out being one option I guess. Day 5 to 9 during this chemo cycle saw some nasty PTSD type side effects, with bad dreams and certain colours causing nausea. And the changes to taste are so crazy. I chewed on a piece of gum for hours and it was still sweet, and we all know that’s just not possible!!! And a glass of Coke doesn’t taste sweet at all...truly bizarre. So a few hiccups along the path of treatment...stay tuned. Xx See more
