08.01.2022 SSAA Griffith Sporting Shooters Host Successful NSW Sporting Clays State Titles and Dave Wallace Memorial Shoot Many of the best sporting clays shooters from ar...ound south eastern Australia attended the NSW Sporting Clays State Titles and the Dave Wallace Memorial Shoot at the SSAA Griffith Sporting Clays Range last weekend. The shoot was well attended with competitors attending from around NSW, ACT and Victoria including Sydney, Canberra, Forbes, Narrabri, Ulladulla, Shepparton, Albury and all over the Riverina Region to compete in this popular annual shoot as they vied to be crowned the NSW Sporting Clays Champion. The shoot consisted of 200 targets, set on two separate sporting clays courses, that were set up by local members in the bush around the hilly escarpment at the Dave Wallace Range. Local SSAA members set an excellent variety of different targets that challenged all the shooters and were worthy of a State Titles. Many of the visiting shooters had difficulty with the Griffith range which is quite unique with clay targets thrown down, up and along cliff faces as well as having competitors shoot from atop towers. The wide variety of simulated field targets coming from all directions in the bush required competitors to stay focussed to post a credible score. The home grown advantage held by local shooters and regular visitors who are used to these conditions showed in the final results. The shoot received generous sponsorship from Rod McNabb Caltex, LIFTEK, F I Lasers & Hydraulics, SJR Industries, Yarran Wines, Red Belly Blood Oranges, Precision Aviation, Capital Hotel Group, Casella Wines, Bronze Wing Ammunition and Laporte Traps with over $7,000 in prizes on offer to the overall and grade winners. Local shooter Bart Brighenti demonstrated his superior skills with the sport of sporting clays and was crowned 2019 NSW Sporting Clays State Champion with a score of 169/200 targets. Runner up was an outstanding junior shooter from Shepparton Thomas Bilney, who scored 161/200. The 100 targets on Saturday also comprised the Dave Wallace Memorial Shoot with Mick Keirl from Tongala Vic awarded the High Gun with a top score of 86/100. While many high scores were posted, only one competitor, Michael Munro from Beckom managed to post a perfect round of 25 targets. This was a particularly outstanding achievement as high winds on Saturday blew the clay targets wildly off course at times. Winners on the podium over the weekend were: Dave Wallace Memorial Shoot High Gun; Mick Keirl 83/100 AA Grade: Bart Brighenti (Griffith) 81, Ricky Bilney (Shepparton) 81, Jamie Cirillo (Griffith) 80 A Grade: Michael Munro (Beckom) 82, Rod Wharton (Denilquin) 80, Matt Dent (Forbes) 79 B Grade: Michael Scarfone (Griffith) 81, Stewart Brown (Karabar) 74, Jason McGrath (Ariah Park) 73 C Grade: Michael Rombola (Griffith) 74, Guy Pitchford (Sydney) 68, Ben Smith (Forbes) 53 Veteran: Laurie Redfern (Forbes) 83, Sid Gugliemino (Griffith) 81, Milton Cartright (Temora) 74 Junior: Thomas Bilney (Shepparton) 80, Charlie North (Edgeroi) 75, Nicholas Brighenti (Griffith) 74 2019 NSW Sporting Clays State Titles State Champion: Bart Brighenti 169/200 AA Grade: Thomas Bilney (Shepparton) 161, Jamie Cirillo (Griffith) 161, Graeme Bennett (Wallaroo) 157 A Grade: Rod Wharton (Deniliquin) 157, Alfonso Toscan (Griffith) 154, Angelo Salamon (Griffith) 151 B Grade: Michael Scarfone (Griffith) 150, Stewart Brown (Karabar) 148, Jason McGrath (Ariah Park) 143 C Grade: Michael Rombola (Griffith) 141, Guy Pitchford (Sydney) 132 Ben Smith (Forbes) 101 Veteran: Laurie Redfern (Forbes) 158, Sid Gugliemino (Griffith) 157, Milton Cartright (Temora) 150 Super Veteran: Robert Duncan (Howlong) 146, Warren Brown (Griffith) 123, Alex Mikolajewicz (Albury) 119 Junior: Thomas Bilney (Shepparton) 168, Charlie North (Edgeroi) 148, Nicholas Brighenti (Griffith) 148
