19.01.2022 Q FEVER CLINICS @ FMC Q Fever is an infection spread to humans from animals, mainly cattle, sheep and goats. People who are in contact with high-risk animals or animal products have a high risk of getting Q Fever. It can cause severe flu-like illness and long-term health problems. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent infection and is recommended for people who work, live or visit high risk environments. Forbes Medical Centre will be running Q Fever Clinics on... 10th and 17th August. Note that two separate appointments are required as an initial pre-vaccination consult and skin test needs to be performed first. 17.01.2022 Flu vaccines for children under 5 and over 65’s Despite the ongoing delays with flu vaccine supplies, FMC is continuing to run regular Flu Clinics. Since we started our clinics in mid-April, our nurses and doctors have vaccinated around 2,500 people in the local community. That’s a significant increase on our vaccination numbers for the same time last year. We currently have vaccines available for children from 6 months to 5 years and also for people aged 65 years and over. ... Our next available clinic for these age groups ONLY will be on TUESDAY 26 MAY from 10.00am to 12.30pm and appointments are now available. We are currently waiting for vaccine supplies to arrive for people aged from 5 years to 64 years. For patients who fall into this category we are maintaining a waiting list so give us a call to put your name on the list and we will contact you to confirm an appointment time as soon as the vaccines arrive. Please note bookings are essential for all Flu Clinics and we ask that patients do not bring any additional family members with them to their appointment as social distancing rules still apply. 15.01.2022 Flu vaccination clinics well underway at FMC Our fabulous nursing team have been powering through flu vaccinations since our first shipment of vaccines arrived last week. The team vaccinated over 300 people last week and we have a further 350 patients booked in this week with clinics scheduled through to mid-May at this stage. Our waiting list was quite extensive this year and our Reception team is doing a great job diligently working through the list to ensure that everybody... who put their name down has their appointment confirmed as soon as possible. If you have already put your name down don’t worry, you will be contacted very soon. Our social distancing system is working a treat with patients being asked to wait outside the practice until they are called in to have their vaccination. By doing this we can limit the number of people in the waiting room and help to keep everybody safe. Please note bookings are essential and we ask that patients do not bring any additional family members with them to the flu clinic. 13.01.2022 After completing a 12 month placement at the Forbes Medical Centre, Registrar Dr Seamus Barrett has decided it’s time to return to his home base in Dubbo. Dr Barrett has been very popular with patients during his time at the Forbes Medical Centre. He has also been a keen, dedicated, compassionate and hard-working member of the FMC team and we are very sorry to see him go. It has been a busy year for Dr Barrett as he has provided general practice Consultations, anaesthetic services for visiting surgeons at the Forbes Hospital as well as participating in the on call anaesthetic roster. Somehow he also found time to study for and pass his final exams and is now waiting to receive his Fellowship. We wish Dr Barrett all the best for his future in medicine and thank him for his efforts over the past year.

12.01.2022 Doctor appointments available next week! We are very pleased to have Dr Erika Nishimoto working at our practice for a couple of weeks in June. Dr Nishimoto will be available the week of 9th June and again from 23rd to 26th June. Dr Nishimoto is no stranger to Forbes as she regularly works in the Emergency Department at the Forbes Hospital so some of our patients may already be familiar with her. We appreciate that it can sometimes be difficult to get an appointment just whe...n you need it but we have plenty of appointments available next week as Dr Ike and Dr Sandun will also be with us. 11.01.2022 COVID-19 TEST RESULTS If you have had a COVID-19 test at FMC please be aware that the test results will normally take AT LEAST 48 HOURS. You will be contacted promptly by your doctor when the result has been received. We are receiving calls from patients chasing their test results within only 24 hours only to be advised the results are not yet available. We understand the frustration however we can only provide the results once we have received them from the pathology provi...ders. In line with current NSW Department of Health requirements, anyone who has had a COVID-19 test is required to self-isolate - STAY AT HOME - until they have received their result. If you receive a negative result but still have cold or flu-like symptoms you should remain at home until you are symptom-free. See more

09.01.2022 Welcome to Dr Thushara Nammuni We are very excited to announce the arrival of Dr Thushara Nammuni to the Forbes Medical Centre! Dr Thushara started with us on 11 August 2020 and is now available to see existing FMC patients Monday to Friday. Dr Thushara has been living in the area for a little while and moved to Forbes with her family at the start of 2020. 09.01.2022 YOUR GP, EXPERT ADVICE WHEN IT MATTERS MOST Forbes Medical Centre is currently offering telephone and safe, in-person consultations Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 6.00pm. We are continuing to provide our full range of medical services and we strongly encourage our patients not to put off seeing their doctor for routine check-ups, or for new symptoms that need to be assessed or discussed with a doctor.... It is essential that childhood immunistations are kept up to date and our Registered nurses are available every day for these appointments. Our practice is a safe place to visit. We have social distancing measures in place to limit the number of people in our waiting areas and consulting rooms. We continue to practice a high degree of infection control and cleanliness within all areas of our practice. Hand sanitiser is available on entering the waiting area, and for patients experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms we can provide you with a face mask to wear whilst waiting to see the doctor. 07.01.2022 Diabetes Week 12 18 July 2020 Did you know that 280 Australians develop diabetes every day? That’s one person every five minutes. Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia; increasing at a faster rate than other chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Some people may have diabetes and not even know because they may not have any obvious symptoms. Whilst you cannot change or control some of your diabetes risk factors, such as your age or fami...ly history, you can take steps to improve other aspects of your lifestyle by improving your diet, maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active. During Diabetes Week Forbes Medical Centre will be raising awareness of the risk factors associated with diabetes by distributing the Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool and checking blood sugar levels. 07.01.2022 WELCOME OUR NEW STUDENTS We are pleased to announce the arrival of two new University of Wollongong students to the Forbes Medical Centre. Jake and Shyam are into their third year of medicine, and as part of their studies they will undertake a 12 month placement at our practice. Forbes Medical Centre has a long-standing relationship with the University of Wollongong and Jake and Shyam are the 13th and 14th students to spend their 12 month placement in Forbes.... During the year the students will immerse themselves in all aspects of general practice as well as spending time in the hospital setting and experiencing other placements outside of the practice. They are also looking forward to getting involved in local community groups and activities. Having the students observe and assist with patient consultations provides a valuable hands-on learning experience and we are grateful to our patients who are always so supportive of our student’s involvement in their care. 01.01.2022 FACE TO FACE CONSULTS AVAILABLE EVERY DAY The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners has recently advised that throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, 76% of doctor consultations have continued to be held face to face. All of our doctors and nurses at FMC are available for face to face consultations and we have appointments available every day. So please don’t put off your doctor or nurse visit! Whether it’s for a regular check-up for your INR, blood pressure or b...lood sugar, a pap smear or keeping your children’s vaccinations up to date, it is important that you keep up with these appointments. We are continuing to follow all of the current guidelines regarding social distancing, hygiene and infection control. We have a limited number of chairs available in our waiting areas so please do not bring any additional people with you to your consultation. If there are no chairs available when you arrive please let our Reception staff know that you will wait outside. Remember to maintain at least 1.5 metres distance from others when outside. Patients with any respiratory or cold/flu symptoms should advise our Reception staff on the phone before attending their appointment so we can determine the best way to manage your consultation. Patients who are identified as being at risk of contracting Coronavirus may still book telephone consults if they prefer not to leave home to see their doctor.
