23.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 Due to COVID restrictions, we decided to hold our Remembrance Day ceremony via Zoom. Stage 3 students were the only live audience, social distanced of course! Our Parliamentarians have continued to strive to provide meaningful experiences over COVID times, and today was yet another example of this. ... Junior classes sent two representatives to our ceremony to place a wreath under our flag poles, and Milli and Hunter took the AMAZING wreath Mrs Nixon made to the cenotaph at lunchtime with Mr McAlister and Mrs McCarthy. Lest We Forget

13.01.2022 MEET THE STAFF! It's Mrs Gartner! Mrs G sat down with our FB reporter to discuss everything about her!! Current role at FNPS: 3/4G Classroom Teacher... Where did you grow up? I was born in Adelaide and grew up in Sydney. I have been extremely fortunate to have lived in 3 different states and have had many adventures living and working on holiday resorts, remote and isolated sheep and cattle stations and governessing through School of the Air. I moved to the Forbes area in 2007 and took up teaching later in life than most people. I graduated from University of New England (UNE) in 2016. Tell us about your family! I have a daughter in Yr 11 and a son in Yr 9. We also have a rescue dog called Romeo. What are your hobbies? When not at school or doing school work I like to go fishing, read, play cards and board games and generally spend fun times with my family and friends. What are your favourite school subjects? I love maths, reading and geography! Tell us why you are Forbes North proud? I started at Forbes North 12 years ago as a Teacher's Aide and then became a teacher in 2017. I love seeing happy students everyday and helping kids on their learning journey. I want every child to believe that with hard work and perseverance they can be anything they want to be. I'm so proud and thankful that everyone at Forbes North is so supportive and that we all have a common goal of shaping children to be the best people they can be. What's your favourite food? Any kind of roast with baked vegies Any favourite quotes? Reading gives us some place to go when we have to stay where we are - anon One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world - Malala Yousafzai Thanks Mrs Gartner, we love having you as part of the FN team! #forbesnorthproud

09.01.2022 FROM THE PRINCIPAL Our school is committed to ensuring that how we teach your child is based on what we know makes the biggest difference to their learning. In our school, we have a focus on using the ‘What works best’ eight practices for effective teaching. These practices include:... Having high expectations of your child. Using explicit teaching in the classroom. Giving effective feedback to your child on their learning. Using data to inform how we teach your child. Using regular and effective assessments so we know how your child’s learning is going. Supporting the wellbeing of your child by looking out for their mental, physical and emotional health. Managing the classrooms well so they are safe, positive and stimulating environments for learning. Making sure our teachers collaborate with each other, and experts outside the school, so teaching practice continuously improves. In addition, research shows that greater levels of support and engagement from parents and carers are associated with better student academic and wellbeing outcomes. We also know that students learn more effectively when the home and school environments form complementary and supportive roles for learning. It is for this reason that we are focused on continuing to foster the partnership between our school and parents. The Department of Education has now released a ‘What works best’ resource for parents and carers, which provides tips for having conversations with your child about their learning. You can visit the department’s Parent Hub where you’ll find other tailored resources for parents and carers, as well as message from the NSW Minister for Education the Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC https://education.nsw.gov.au///what-works-best-2020-update
