These hours will determine your liability should something go wrong! You don't want to leave anything to chance. This PDF. runs through everything clearly and is an easy checklist for you and your employee ...to confirm their space is safe. 21.01.2022 Wages & Salaries, are you paying enough or will you get slugged with big penalties? Are you paying enough? Are you paying more than you should? ... How do you even know? How often do you run wage reviews? All of these are relevant questions for all Clients and Employers! Here are some of Our recommendations that we give to our Clients Wage & Salary reviews should be done annually at a minimum and this includes the arduous task of checking the State or Federal Awards! What is a wage review and Why should you do them? Awards are continually changing and if youre not up to date then you can end up underpaying your staff and costing yourself a big packet in underpayments and penalties!! We run wage / salary reviews for our clients and cross reference with the relevant State and Federal Awards to find the Award that best matches to ensure our clients and their staff are covered! We had a case recently where a client with 60 employees were found to be paying under an award by $18k per annum per employee - this is a big problem! And they face a BIG penalty and have to report the underpayments to the relevant parties. BUT finding this out by being proActive will save you because actions can be put in place through advice and negotiations and payback strategies. IF you havent run a wage and salary review for a while, wed suggest you get on to it ASAP! Sifting through all of the Awards and finding the best and most appropriate Award for your industry (and YES you CAN fit into multiple awards within your business depending on each your employee groups) This might not be the best way to spend your time, our best piece of advice would be to reach out to an expert and get some real advice!

12.01.2022 Did you know, according to the latest Gartner research, the amount of Australian employees intending to remain with their current employer has dropped by 8%, while those actively seeking a new job has rocketed up by 5.6%? Data from Gartner's Q1 2019 Global Talent Monitor tells that just 30.3% of employees report a "high intent to stay", however the global average is 32.8%. The effort levels have fell to the lowest point since the first quarter of 2014 with only 15.7% of Austr...alian employees reporting a high discretionary effort level, which is slightly above the global average of 15%. The highest effort levels were noted in the 3 months to June 2017 at a rate of 23%. From a survey of nearly 2,000 Australians employees mention lack of respect as the top reason for leaving their jobs, followed by manager quality and work/life balance. "With the added stress of 'always on' technology and flat wage growth, it's not surprising that employees are feeling overworked, disrespected, stressed and anxious," says Aaron McEwan, HR advisory leader at Gartner, who suggests many employees are on the brink of burnout. "To see these indicators of dissatisfaction and disengagement so early in the year is alarming and should be a wake-up call to employers. There's a long year ahead and growth targets are not going away. We need a workforce that is energised, committed and focused on delivering results." Useful steps employers can take to boost job satisfaction and engagement include 'decluttering', by reducing the number of steps involved in reviewing and signing-off on annual leave or expense reports. What is the main reason you leave a job ? Work/Life Balance ? Manager Quality ? Tell us what you think !

12.01.2022 Wage Increases Announced Today! The Fairwork Commission has announced the annual industry award increases. Wages will go up by 1.75% ... The Fairwork Commission has advised that the award increases will be rolled out in 3 stages and each stage will include different industry groups and at different dates during the next financial year. Stage 1 Effective from 1 July 2020 Health services; child care; education; firefighting; aged care; medical centres Stage 2 Effective from 1 November 2020 This stage covers most industry awards. Manufacturing; admin and professional services; legal; mining Stage 3 Effective from 1February 2021 Retail; travel; hospitality; events; hair and beauty This shows that industries that have been most affected by COVID-19 have a few more months to recover before they are required to increase wages. This is the lowest increase Dale FHR Director as ever seen, even lower than the increase we saw at the time of the GFC which was 3.4% in 2010 2011. In 2009 the modern awards were implemented and we saw a $26 increase per week and now, 10 years on, we will see just an increase of $19.84 per week. Make sure you check your industry group and know when you have to up your wages to your staff. And remember that within your business you can have multiple industry award groups, so check against the role someone plays rather than your main industry or service you provide. If you need help working out which industry group your staff belong to or which award you need to be paying from we are here support you and provide real answers, specific to your business. Send us a message and find out how we can make this transition easier for you.

09.01.2022 05.03.19 12:19pm Thewest.com.au "Others highlighted the issues that older unemployed people faced returning to the workforce. Forensic HR director Dale Kennett said a big issue when it came to people applying for jobs was the state of their resumes.... He said he had been in the recruitment industry for 20 years, and often received around 400-500 resumes for a typical labour job, while he averaged close to 200 for admin jobs. 90 per cent of the resumes I receive for these jobs dont even get an interview, he said. The resume is highly important and a lot of people arent getting it right. " https://thewest.com.au//readers-react-to-youth-unemploymen

03.01.2022 There are two well-established propositions which concern the application of the BOOT. The first is that the BOOT requires that the Commission finds that each award covered employee, and each prospective employee, would be better off under the agreement than under the relevant modern award. This means everyone, as a result every award covered employee or prospective employee must be better off overall. If any employee, even one, is not better off overall, the relevant enter...prise agreement does not pass the BOOT. In an agreement containing loaded rates in whole or partial substitution for award penalty rates, it is not sufficient that the most of the employees, even a very large majority, are better off overall if there is any employees at all who would not be better off, the agreement doesnt pass the BOOT. The second is that the BOOT requires an overall assessment to be made. This means the Fair Work Commission must identify the terms which are more beneficial for an employee, terms which are less beneficial, and an overall assessment of whether an employee would be better off under the agreement. Where the terms required to be compared directly upon the remuneration of employees, the assessment is essentially a mathematical one. While it is necessary for the Commission to take such entitlements into account in the BOOT assessment, determining the value they are to be assigned may be a difficult task. It is unlikely that a non-monetary, optional or possible entitlement under the agreement will sufficiently compensate for the disadvantage for all affected employees. Unsure if your agreement would pass the test ? Call us today and have a quick chat with someone who is knowledgeable about The Boot Test (just do not mention feet )

03.01.2022 Underpaid wages will cost thousands! Earlier this year BC-19, the Government introduced annualised salary rulings! And end of financial year in only 40 days away!!!... That means there is still enough time to review and reconcile your wages. You must check your full time, part time and casual wages! You've heard about the big companies that have been in the news for massive charges of underpayments and they also faced fines from the Fair Work Commission. All business will be under review, particularly now with single touch payroll. Recent reviews of our clients have shown underpayments of up to $10,000 or more per employee !!! They are SME with 10 or less employees. And this could be you! The majority of business do NOT purposefully underpay their staff, underpayments are made by mistake! Your responsibility as an employer, bookkeeper, payroll officer, HR Manager, Director is to review your wages! You MUST reconcile your wages BEFORE the end of financial year AND pay to your employees any difference to what they have received AND what their relevant award states. What to do now get the reports from wages / salaries paid to date check the amounts paid are equal to or better off than the applicable award if they are, great work, you're done! If not, make arrangements to pay the underpayments to your employee! If you're still stuck, message us Forensic HR and we will make sure you're covered! We work along side you and your team to review and reconicile, all in confidence

02.01.2022 Drugs and Alcohol are used quite frequently throughout Australia and this would have an obvious impact on the workforce. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, over the last decade illicit drug use has been relatively stable with almost one in ten people having used an illicit drug in the last month. As many drugs can impair workers capacity to perform safely hours or even days after consumed, this could mean individuals are attending their workplace n...egatively impacted by illicit substances, risking safety and productivity. What about Alcohol I hear you ask ? As Alcohol is a significant part of the Aussie Culture, this brings the danger of it finding its way into the workplace. Not only does Alcohol impact on someones physical health but also their mental health and in turn the safety of workers. A report on the construction industry found that half of all the adult workers and more than six out of ten apprentices drink at a risky level with half of these reported that they had a drinking problem. Both Drugs and Alcohol have a variety of direct and indirect costs to a business, by reducing productivity and increasing employee turnover. Individuals with higher levels of substance use also tend to experience higher levels of depression, anxiety and stress. Drugs and Alcohol may be involved in as much as 20% of workplace accidents and 10% of workplace fatalities. Now that is a price I feel no one is willing to pay. How can Forensic HR help businesses to address the problem? We preform onsite Drug & Alcohol Testing, this allows for no time lost attending off site premises and the results are emailed direct. We can develop or review a Drug & Alcohol policy to address the use of substances in the workplace, for all employees to understand the expectation around Drug & Alcohol in the workplace. Our qualified Nurse can educate businesses and their employees with the necessary information about the harms of substance abuse, not only what they are doing to their bodies but where to find support!

02.01.2022 More and more employers are looking after their employees mental wellness and well-being as well as their physical health. The old saying Leave your personal life at the office door. no longer applies within companies and it is refreshing for this to be occurring. Employee stress is a major workplace issue. According to a recent study, more that 70% of employees spend valuable work time worrying, with 50% of employees saying that they lose 1 to 5 hours of work ...to worry a week. We dont have to tell you that when an employee is spending their time worrying, theyre not being productive and this costs business money. In the recent study, guess where they said their biggest worry came from where? Yep, work. I wonder if employees just figure stressing is part of being human and dont take the necessary steps to address it before it becomes a bigger issue. Bottom-line, companies and employee would benefit to recognise stress and take steps to manage it. Unsure how you create a work environment that supports employees and provides a psychologically safe place for all? Contact us at Forensic HR and we can go through comprehensive benefit programs and supportive management systems.
