25.01.2022 I'll be live at 12:30 today Listen in to Lunch Club on ABC Radio Brisbane at 12:30pm. International Women's Day, The Royal Rumble and the next generation of Space Jam!... Throwback to last time I was on Lunch Club!

22.01.2022 I spent the first 20 something years of my life trying to fit in. Trying to study, work and train like everyone else! As soon as you hit the real world you spend the next 40 years trying to stand out! Whether you have lived with your disability from birth or you have acquired it along your journey, there is a process of acceptance that happens before you really start kicking goals. I'm 26 now and it wasn't until last year that I became 100% comfortable with who I am and what... I've got to offer as a strength coach. If I can allow teenagers or young adults with a disability to accelerate that process through a physical training program then I am one fulfilled human!

18.01.2022 Living with a disability and knowing your limits! Between the limitations you put on yourself, the social expectations that get in your head and even some well informed guidance from clinical healthcare practitioners; you can start to accept that that whatever HAS been will ALWAYS be. With disability, there will always be exercises and programs you will need to modify to progress safely and effectively. ... That said, through quality coaching there will always be room for the kind of physically and mentally challenging training that changes your perspective on just how limitless your potential is!

15.01.2022 The Box Jump Revisited A couple of weeks ago I posted about the difficulties I face performing box jumps! They are a tough exercise for anyone lacking depth perception or with any visual impairment.... Luckily, those like me can still develop lower body strength and power with a good old fashioned counter movement jump! What goes up must come down! Without the box your mind is free from worrying about stacking it and your focus shifts to control and proper landing technique. Whether you have a visual impairment or not, I encourage you to take a step back, take the box away and get those landings right!

15.01.2022 Using a foam roller, trigger ball or banded distraction can all be great ways to get that extra range of motion from a tight group of muscles. The first way I see these tools used incorrectly is that clients will not teach their body how to use this new found range of motion once they've created it. Through resistance training immediately afterward to reinforce the new movement pattern you are more likely maintain your new found mobility between sessions. Remember, if you do...n't use it... you lose it! Stay tuned for the second way to get the best out of your movement prep!

10.01.2022 The Weak Link A disability or injury in one area of your body can wreak havoc and limit your overall progress in the gym. Before I found ways to manage my grip (only 6 1/2 fingers remember) I never used to deadlift! After a significant hamstring tear, I knew I had to find new ways to manage my disability! ... My deadlift without straps = 100kg With straps = 190kg The point here is that once you get to know your body, like how I've learnt to use straps. You can ensure you don't allow a weak link in your body to limit your progress! Letting my grip get in the way of my hamstring development is just one example. What workarounds have you used to train in spite of a disability or injury? Foresight fitness along with your local physiotherapist can help you navigate these challenges to get you moving and feeling better.
