22.01.2022 Have ypu been missing the compost? Were turning it 2 weeks after we added the wheat straw. Its broken down a lot, it has warmed up but not too much and is full of worms. It still has a way to go but Im happy with its progress. Jackie has turned it and its niceand fluffy. Well turn it again on thursday hopefully. 20.01.2022 Welcome "Waa" to the nursery. The nursery is on the land of the Kulin nation. This is aboriginal land. Sovereignty was never ceded. A treaty was never made. ... There are stories about Waa from language groups east of Melbourne, the Wurrundjeri, Boonorong and Tungeranong. There are stories across Australia about the raven or the crow. They all differ slightly so over the duration of the exhibition I will share resources I find on these stories. "Waa" is a large lantern made by Renate Crow for the Belgrave Lantern Parade. A very big thanks to Renate for bringing Waa and positioning him just right. "Waa" lantern debuted many years ago and has spent most of his life luxuriating in the Belgrave library along with other beautiful lanterns. "Waa" has had lots of adventures including to Belgrave Survival Day. "Waa" has had many repairs over the years so his eyes are the part that lights up. We had a wonderful day at the nursery today with Miranda Mueller of @gotogroundpermaculture doing TWO sessions of herbal medicine making. Im too tired to write anything other than sending a huge thank you to Miranda and Beee for being an integral part of life at the nursery. 14.01.2022 Im very excited!! People have started to bring their entries into the Mr Raven art prize. I have to say I am beyond impressed, mum and miranda will have a tough time picking the prize.... The winner of this art prize gets $500 cash on the day, and I acquire the piece! There is still time to enter, the deadline for entries is the 23rd of June by 4pm (the nursery will be closed on monday 22nd). https://facebook.com/events/s/mr-raven-art-prize-presentatio/734720357269383/?ti=as Forestedge Permaculture Nursery and Gallery 2020 Art prize! The prize is $500 and I acquire the winning piece. Opening date is Saturday 27th June 2020, 1pm to 3pm. The prize will be awarded at 1.30pm sharp. The subject matter must be Mr Raven (the male raven), and/or Cailleach (the female raven). Entries can be a painting, drawing, photograph, silk screening, sculpture, anything you fancy. 2D images must be 40cm x 40cm (if you are framing your piece it must also be 40cm x 40cm). 3D sculpture must be 40cm x 40cm x 40cm. It can be smaller. To enter you must live within 100km of the nursery in Kallista and be able to attend the prize presentation on tbe 27th June. There are 5 spots that are exceptions to this rule, contact me asap to apply. The judges with be two experts (on the nursery and Mr Raven), my mum and Miranda Mueller. Judging will be done without name attached. For the exhibition, images will be displayed with artist information. 12.01.2022 Weve just hung the Mr Raven Art Prize entries. I feel sunshine in my heart that a simple bird can bring over 30 artists together in the middle of a Dandenong Ranges winter. The exhibition is being inspected by our judges in the morning and winner of the $500 cash prize will be chosen. ... I have to say - rather them than me picking the winner because I want to take THEM ALL HOME. One is more beautiful and creative than the next. Many of them will be for sale. Opening of the exhibition is this Saturday 27th June 1pm to 3pm. The awarding of the prize will be at 1.30pm sharp. We are presenting the winner outside so we can all safely social distance. The entries in the Mr Raven Art Prize are coming in, all so different, all so beautiful. There are some very talented people out there! Its going to be an exquisite exhibition and I feel for mum and Miranda who are the judges. Id take them all if I could!!... The opening is this Saturday 1pm to 3pm. The prize is being awarded at 1.30pm sharp. Even with changed covid restrictions we will still be able to award the prize and let people into the gallery to view the spectacular works.

06.01.2022 When you run a small nursery the numbers of plants you want arent normally delivered. So I get to hunt down suppliers and visit their farms to get stock. The good news is that I can fit 60 citrus trees in the ute trailer. So Im continuing the $30 citrus special. Im getting these trees at a fair price so I can charge a fair price for them. I grew up with a lemon tree and two orange trees and they had fruit on them year round in sunny Whyalla. 02.01.2022 Mr Raven and Cailleach. I love seeing them together for a moment. Normally they come diwn one at a time for "snacks". So much love for these birds. Who knew a girl could fall in love with ducks AND ravens. ... There's a few other regular feathered visitors to the nursery I must photograph. The currawong with the tail that sits to one side. The wattlebirds who make their call late in the day and always on wet days for some crushed up bickies, and also hang off my grevillia "fireworks" plants I have for sale. The indian mynahs. Not really my friends as they are introduced birds... but they share the space and I should probably get to know them better. The magpies. The eastern spinebills. The finches from the forest. The remaining white cockies. Haven't seen a rosella or a king parrot for a while. I can sometimes hear the lyrebirds across the road in the national park. The black cockies are away in their winter homes. I've gotten to know this tiny slice of paradise as well as any other place I've lived. I'm a lucky girl indeed. @ Forestedge Permaculture Nursery

Covid restrictions have just changed so we are awarding the prize out of doors and letting people into the gallery according to space limitations.
