22.01.2022 FROGS! Foresthaven is full of them ... so much so, we sometimes call it "Froghaven" as their calls are so loud and almost overwhelming sometimes! It's an amazing experience to wander around the waterhole at night, hearing the calls at different levels ... the trilling and croaking treefrogs up in the epiphytes, the "wok woks" and "tok"s down on the ground. The sound of a healthy ecosystem, and such a relief after the long and intense drought to hear them in such force as t...he creeks, gullies and waterfalls flow. We love our frogs!

21.01.2022 Exciting news ... we have been awarded a government grant for Increasing Resilience to Climate Change! 20.01.2022 Annual autumn haircut of lemon verbena, hanging on the verandah to dry. Ah smells soooo good.

14.01.2022 Why the old forests are so very important.

12.01.2022 This is our favourite regenerative festival in the whole world! And it's just up the road in Mullumbimby. . RENEW fest has just reached 2/3 pledges needed to go ahead this year. Buy your super discounted early bird ticket before this Monday 17th Feb! https://www.pozible.com/pr/bringing-renew-fest-2020-to-life . And see you there!

12.01.2022 This time last week another "mini tornado" ripped through our hidden valley at Foresthaven. Sky went black, then the air went white with water and wind, trees s...haking wildly, branches flying horizontally through the air, thunder and lightning crashing all around. Home alone, trying to shut windows against the cyclonic forces. When the coast was clear, digging trenches and walls of sand to prevent flooding downstairs. Pretty terrifying and quite bizarre as it disrupted my writing a grant application for climate change resilience training!! The aftermath: 13 big trees down, including 6 in "the common". Several trees very narrowly missed the 3 houses ... we were blessed this time, so no endless hours on the phone to insurance companies. Pete and I have been working this week to clean up what we can. Pete chainsawing, me dragging. Pretty exhausting, after all the dramas preparing for approaching bushfires this summer. . So, we are facing a huge clean up that will cost thousands of dollars and many many hours. And, we are lucky ... none of us hurt. No roofs ripped away (unlike the school down the road). And the bush food gully planted last weekend remains unscathed despite a huge native pine falling right through the middle of it! . Any offers of assistance gratefully received. For example please join Friends of Foresthaven Inc! http://goo.gl/forms/1zGA0KMPno . #resilience #thisisclimatechange #gratitude #thenewnormal

12.01.2022 Hmmm food for thought ...

12.01.2022 This poem just blows my mind. Simply amazing. Are you familiar with it? Earth, isn't this what you want? To arise in us, invisible? Is it not your dream, to en...ter us so wholly there's nothing left outside us to see? What, if not transformation, is your deepest purpose? Earth, my love, I want it too. Believe me, no more of your springtimes are needed to win me overeven one flower is more than enough. Before I was named I belonged to you. I see no other law but yours, and know I can trust the death you will bring. See, I live. On what? Childhood and future are equally present. Sheer abundance of being floods my heart. --Rilke

02.01.2022 ** FIREBRAND: A LOVE LETTER TO MACLEAN ** From 7.30 tonight, a series of stories of place, including Peter Matheson Maclean / Yaegl Country: a love letter to a town where rural resilience is echoed through bushfire, familial inspiration and shared history. I remember walking through the bush when I was a kid and wondering whether those beings I read about in books were real. Trolls, elves, faerie, giants and dwarves. Probably not. But as I grew I knew I felt comfortable in... some of the places I spent time in, and in others I was more than happy to move on. I stayed longer in places that spoke to me, that invited me, healed me, that I felt for Nearly twenty years here. That’s a record for me. Meet Peter Matheson Maclean NSW / Yaegl Country
