07.01.2022 Worried about Coronavirus? Here’s a few tips to protect yourself

07.01.2022 The first week of December is National Hand Washing Awareness Week You know what that means?! Its time to get hygienic, people! Making a habit of good hand hygiene is an easy, effective way to prevent infections and sicknesses. If youre someone that chooses to skip the hand washing once in a while, read these mind blowing statistics and you might think again next time! *80% of communicable diseases can be transferred by touch (person-to-person contact). *Washing your hands... a few times a day can reduce diarrhea rates by 40%. *Touching your face with dirty hands spreads sicknesses pneumonia, a cold, and the flu. *Pneumonia is the number one cause of childhood death, and is preventable by regular hand washing. *The two most important times to wash your hands are before and after preparing food, and after going to the bathroom. *Less than 75% of women and less than 50% of men wash their hands after using the bathroom *When you flush a toilet with the seat up, a mist containing bacteria is spread over about 6 square meters. Even worse Sinks in public bathrooms are 90% covered in this bacteria. *The ideal amount of time to wash your hands is 30 seconds, but 15 is recommended at the very least. *Most bacteria on our hands is under our fingernails, so when youre washing, be sure to scrub underneath them. *Damp hands are 1,000 times more likely to spread bacteria than dry hands, yet only 20% of people dry their hands after they wash them. *Reusable cloth towels have millions of bacteria in their fibers. Using disposable paper towels is the cleanest way to dry your hands. *Studies show that people who wash their hands have 24% less sick days because of respiratory illness, and 51% fewer sick days due to a sick stomach. Are you grossed out yet!? Sorry, but we had to let you know.

06.01.2022 IT's TIME TO OVARY-ACT Each year over 1,510 women in Australia will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In the past 30 years, other cancers have been able to achieve amazing improvements in awareness, funding and survival rates and we want the same hope for our women. While some progress has been made for ovarian cancer there is still so much we need to do.... For the state of ovarian cancer to improve, we need major changes in awareness, treatment and funding. We need teal to have its time in the spotlight. We need all Australians to stand with us and take action. https://ovariancancer.net.au/taking-action/ocam/

06.01.2022 10 Reasons Why Good Sleep is Important A good nights sleep is incredibly important for your health. In fact, its just as important as eating healthy and exercising. Unfortunately, our current environment is interfering with natural sleep patterns. People are now sleeping less than they did in the past, and sleep quality has decreased as well. https://www.foresthillclinic.com.au//10-reasons-why-good-/

05.01.2022 Coronavirus - What's the deal!?! - Coronaviruses are common and found in humans and animals, they commonly cause cold like illness. It is likely we have all had one of these viruses at some stage in our lives -SARS, the outbreak in 2003 was a coronavirus... - The coronavirus currently causing issues around the world is a new one and it causes a respiratory illness with fever and difficulty breathing. - The Wuhan Coronavirus (as this one is known) can pass from animal to human, that is how the outbreak is thought to have started. It has now been confirmed that it can also pass from human to human. - You can reduce your risk of contracting it by practicing hand hygiene, avoiding contact with sick people and avoiding contact with live or farm animals in the risk area (China). - At this stage experts are saying this virus is less deadly than SARS but may be more contagious. How this virus is transmitted is still being investigated. Data is showing 1 contagious person will transmit the virus to 2-3 other people. - There is currently no vaccine for this coronavirus however the University of Queensland have been tasked with creating one. - There is no specific treatment, many recover on their own - The WHO have NOT declared a global public health emergency currently - There is some conflicting advice from schools/childcare, currently the Government is suggesting only those with symptoms and those who have been in contact with coronavirus directly remain away from school until they are cleared by a doctor. - Many schools however have asked that any child who has travelled to China does not return to school within 14 days of arriving back in Australia (this has to do with the incubation period of the virus) - There are 5 confirmed cases in Australia and no deaths There is NO need to panic.
