24.01.2022 We're thrilled loved ones can once again visit our facility and reconnect with residents. A reminder, our facility is open from 6am - 6pm, 7 days per week. If on occasion loved ones would like to visit residents outside these hours, please contact our office before 6pm to allow time for screening arrangements that meet Queensland Health protocols. We are still required to practice COVID checks until further notice. Thank you all for your understanding.

We’d like to thank Thoroughbred Racing History Association for sending some gorgeous photos to a horse enthusiast living with a diagnosis of dementia in our 'Memory Retreat'. Today we decorated his room with the photos to create a personalised space, promoting the best care and support and encouraging individuality. #lifehappens at Forest Lake Lodge.



24.01.2022 WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU Today, Queensland Health announced restrictions will ease for greater Brisbane and surrounds, and Aged Care facilities in those areas can receive visitors. We’re happy to advise families and loved ones can finally visit our facility from 8am tomorrow, 25th September. It’s important to remember, we must stay alert and practice good hygiene. We’re also implementing the following guidelines to all visitors. - Must have evidence of Flu injection - Tempe...rature at the gate including questions regarding any cough, cold or sore throat. - Only two visitors per family - Please avoid crowded places if taking a resident outside no shopping centres etc If you have any questions, please call our office. 23.01.2022 We are delighted to inform families and our community, from 1am today, 22nd January, we can once again accept visitors at our facility. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this time. Please note, as per the Aged Care directive set by the Queensland Government, all visitors must wear masks when visiting. 21.01.2022 Today, on #RemembranceDay, we honour the fallen men and women for their service and sacrifice. We also recognise our First Nations people who have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years as we celebrate NAIDOC week. During such a difficult time, we're especially grateful for the tireless efforts of our employees keeping our residents safe and well, day and night. More than ever, we have learnt how important it is that our community receive quality care and support, and without our carers, this wouldn't be possible. 19.01.2022 Despite all the lockdown measures, we’re still going to have some Easter fun with staff and residents. Easter is a significant time in Christian faith, and whether you believe this tradition or not, it is a timely reminder to reset and recharge. Please note, our admin office will be closed over the Easter break, however our afterhours staff can be reached on 07 3278 9486. 19.01.2022 We’d like to thank Ironside State School for their lovely gifts. Some of our residents participated in their year two Kindness Project where they took a trip down memory lane and recalled their time back at school. The year two students then made gift bags inspired by each of the resident stories. We’re so happy to continue to make connections with our community and connect with people young and not so young.



19.01.2022 This year hasn’t been easy but we’re grateful to have an amazing community behind us. Last week Forest Lake Shopping Centre donated hand sanitisers to our staff during lock down, just to say thank you for all their hard work. We’re all in this together!

Forest Lake Lodge is offering a special for students to complete a certified manual handling course in a current aged care setting. The course is run by two highly qualified Manual Handling champions who have been working in Aged care for many years. We are offering six students to be trained over a two hour period for just $250. 16.01.2022 An Important Message from our CEO As you may have heard on the news, two young women from Acacia Ridge and Logan area, recently travelled to and from Melbourne have tested positive for COVID-19. All Aged Care facilities in the south of Brisbane have now been instructed to go into lock down as a precaution for 48hrs. Only staff, paramedics and GP’s will be allowed on site. Rest assured we do not have any active cases at Forest Lake Lodge and we'll keep you informed on any dev...elopments. We have sufficient PPE and resources in place should it be needed. I am extremely disappointed that we must take this action, however the health of all your loved ones is our most important priority. Please call the office if you have any questions. 14.01.2022 An Important reminder Queensland's Chief Health Officer has acted preemptively to lock down all residential aged care facilities in the Metro South Health catchment of Brisbane, effective immediately. Aged care facilities should have received a letter from the Chief Health Officer on Wednesday 29 July 2020. The letter provides guidance on implementing precautionary measures to protect residents, after the confirmation of positive COVID-19 cases in the Logan and Acacia Ridge a...reas. Immediate action is required to: - lock down the facility to non-essential visitors - stop staff working across facilities or, where not possible, use additional precautionary measures e.g. PPE, staff records etc. - increase vigilance using the current assessment processes for the health of staff entering a facility. More information on Queensland’s Chief Health Officer public health directions can be viewed here - https://bit.ly/3hQ8QwF Also, please note, our facility remains COVID-19 free and residents are in good spirits. We'll keep families informed on any directives from Queensland Health as we receive them. 13.01.2022 For National Palliative Care week, we want to recognise and celebrate our dedicated staff working in palliative care. Palliative care is more than end-of-life care. We are honoured to be present with those nearing the end of life’s journey, and help them live as well as possible with dignity and respect.

13.01.2022 We'd like to send a big thank you to Spotlight for their donation to support us create a sensory wall within our dementia unit. For those who live with a diagnosis of dementia, many aspects of everyday living are a challenge. We wanted to create a point of intertest for residents to look and touch to help stimulate their senses therefore creating a positive experience. And a very special thank you to the wonderful customer service officer in Springwood who helped us pull all the fabrics together.

This means we can now receive visits from family and friends. We know how challenging it’s been for loved ones so this news could not come sooner. Please note, we’re still taking caution and will continue to implement strict hygiene protocols and social distancing. Also, you won’t be able to visit the facility if you’ve been overseas, are unwell or have not had the flu shot. 12.01.2022 A new Industry Code for visiting Residential Aged Care Homes during COVID-19 has been released. The Code creates a nationally consistent approach that ensures residents can receive visitors while minimising the risk of spreading COVID-19. Forest Lake Lodge has updated its visitation policy for the protection of residents, in-line with the code and the Department of Health’s guidelines. Meanwhile, our facility remains in lockdown and we will advise families and our community of any changes as they are received from Queensland Health. 10.01.2022 Today is Vietnamese National Day. The day marks Vietnam's declaration of independence from France on this day in 1945. To celebrate, residents enjoyed a delicious menu of Vietnamese cuisines. Our wonderful chef made Beef Pho noodle soup, Lemongrass chicken, Crème coconut rice pudding and in the afternoon, Yum Cha was served. #Lifehappens at Forest Lake Lodge, even in Lockdown!

10.01.2022 We're thrilled to announce that Forest Lake Lodge will once again be able to accept visitors from 6am Thursday 15 April, 2021. This welcomed news comes from the recent announcement from Queensland Health, that Queensland remains free of community transmission of COVID-19, therefore Aged Care facilities will come out of lockdown. 10.01.2022 An important message to families Due to the recent announcement regarding the coronavirus cases at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre in Wacol, we have been advised to go into lock-down effective immediately. Families and loved ones will not be permitted to visit the facility until further notice. We don’t have any active cases at present and will closely monitor symptoms of our residents. 10.01.2022 A MESSAGE TO FAMILIES Firstly, we’d like to thank all our families and community for their continued support during this public health emergency. Family members should have received a letter from our CEO yesterday providing an update on the Aged care direction. If you haven’t received this, please call our office to update your details.... A few notes to remember: - The lock down will remain in effect until the Chief Health Officer deems it safe to remove. This may extend to 17th August, 2020. - It's very important to keep residents connected to families to reduce loneliness, fear and depression. Please make an appointment with our Lifestyle team to connect via Skype, phone, fax, social media, letters, cards etc. We could even take small videos and SMS’s - All staff are now required to wear face masks on site. - No visitors are allowed onsite until further notice. To celebrate #RUOKDay2020 staff and residents took some time yesterday to reflect on our mental health and well-being and ensure we are doing what we can to support those around us. 05.01.2022 A message to families You may have noticed visitation restrictions in Aged care facilities have been lifted in some parts of Brisbane. This is not the case for Aged Care facilities around Forest Lake, therefore Forest Lake Lodge remains under lock-down. Rest assured, as soon as Queensland Health update visitation guidelines in Forest Lake, we will notify family members and loved ones immediately via their preferred contact details. You may want to check your contact details a...nd call the office if you’d like this updated. We currently have no cases within our facility and continue to closely monitor symptoms of our residents. Remember, if families wish to connect with their loved ones through Skype, please call our office and we’ll be happy to make arrangements. We are also happy to deliver packages to residents. 04.01.2022 Today was a very special day. Families and loved ones were reunited after being in lockdown for many weeks. We also ended the week with a special morning tea in support of Dementia Action week. This gorgeous picture is of a resident enjoying time with her daughter in our highly supportive Dementia unit. As a community, it's vital we educate ourselves about Dementia and help shape a more empathetic and informed community to enable those with a diagnosis of Dementia to continue to shine. 03.01.2022 Important visitation update for families. The Queensland Government recently updated the aged care visitation policy. Please note the following: From 1AM December 1, 2020... - The two-person visitor limit has been removed, just in time for Christmas. If you would like to arrange a special family lunch/dinner, please contact the office. You can also take advantage of our new meal delivery and catering service found here - https://www.forestlakelodge.com.au/catering - You can now enter our facility without having the flu vaccination, as the peak of 2020 influenza season is over. - Children under the age of 16, can enter our facility - COVID-safe precautions are still in place including good hygiene practice, temp checks and questioning at the gate and social distancing. 03.01.2022 To support the next #generation of #care workers, we have partnered with QUT (Queensland University of Technology) and TAFE Queensland to empower, guide and help students experience first hand how to provide quality care to our ageing population. From manual handling to administering medication, students are provided with two weeks of in-depth hands-on training at our supportive facility. Here is what one of our students had to say Firstly, I want to thank the staff and nurses for being so welcoming and for guiding me through my first placement experience. It was a very eye-opening and heart touching experience and I have learnt so much in my short visit - QUT Nurse Student.

02.01.2022 Dear residents, families, and friends, As the year comes to an end, we want to ensure residents can celebrate with their loved ones. It has been a very difficult year so it’s important we take some time to reconnect. Due to some restrictions still in place, we are unable to host our annual family Christmas party. However, families can still visit on Christmas day and enjoy a delicious roast lunch including dessert and drinks for $15. Our chefs are ready to delight you so let ...the office know by the 24th December and enjoy Christmas Day at Forest Lake Lodge. If you’re planning on taking your loved one out for Christmas Day please let the admin team know before the 24th December. Our office will be closed on Christmas Day. While Brandy and Ship Kei were gaining experience in aged care, they loved supporting residents so much, they didn't want to leave. They are now proud Forest Lake Lodge employees, and we're happy to welcome them to the family. #wherelifehappens

Since we are no longer considered to be a Restricted Local Government Area, the following is now allowed: - Residents may leave the facility for any reason. - Visitors are allowed to enter the facility.... - All staff, students, contractors, visiting allied health and visitors do not need to wear a surgical mask whilst on site.
