06.01.2022 In a week that has so many things happening around the world and so much sport being cancelled or postponed the BCL A Grade Grand Final was held on Saturday before the latest restrictions were in place whereby we hosted Riana at Stanley. Winning the toss and electing to bat we set on posting a competitive score that our bowlers could defend with runs on the board always a key in a Grand Final. With steady partnerships formed our openers in Damon Smith and Jimmy Martin managed... our way to 2-30 with Lachie Bissett and Nick Littlejohn then combining for a 56-run partnership to have us 3-86 before Littlejohn (20) was dismissed. With Bissett posting a half century and then dismissed, followed by a mix up between the wickets and Captain Nic Bellinger (17) run out, the scores were at 5-121 and it was game on. Sam Poke (40) then played a key role in a couple of partnerships with Brendan Willcox (7) and Mitchell Bellinger (18) as we made our way to 7-170, this brought Grant Samperi to the crease and with some exciting running between the wickets and some smart batting Poke and Samperi pushed the total to 8-197. Matty Emmett then joined Poke in the middle and had an immediate impact hitting the boundary first ball, Poke was then dismissed with Iain Bruce heading to the middle to watch Emmett finish the over off as he finished on 6 not out and total score of 9-203 off our 50 overs. Hitting the field wanting early wickets Riana got off to a steady start before opener Mitchell Bellinger struck and removed both openers and then a sharp run out from Nic Bellinger Riana were having to work hard at 3-39. The ball was then thrown to off spinner Nick Littlejohn as we pressed for another wicket and from there the rest is history as he bowled brilliantly in partnerships with the seamers from the other end bowling the side to victory to finish with amazing figures of 6-15 off 9.4 overs with Riana dismissed for 100 runs neat. A great win that secured three premierships in a row as Littlejohn backed up his last years Grand Final Best on Ground performance with another one. A fantastic effort by all players and the club would like to thank all players, supporters, sponsors and people for the year and attending Grand Final day. Game Details Forest Stanley 9-203 (50 Overs) L Bissett (50), S Poke (40), N Littlejohn (20), M Bellinger (18) Riana 10-100 (33.4 Overs) N Littlejohn (6-15) , M Bellinger (2-26), J Martin (1-3).
