18.01.2022 For those wanting to do DNA testing on their Murray for breeding purposes or even just for your own knowledge. Go to the Orivet website (click the link below) a...nd you can get the DNA profile, Diseases, traits etc sent straight to you personally without the results going through any dog organization or Association and then not getting your full results in a timely manner. Direct to Orivet is the way to go https://www.orivet.com//murray-river-retriever---full-bree See more

18.01.2022 An afternoon play at Flinders Beach to Shoreham Beach

16.01.2022 My family brought me home, all cradled in their arms. They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm. They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys. I sure did love my family, especially the little girls and boys. The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them all snuggled in the sheets. I used to go for walks, often several times a day. They even fought to hold the leash, I’m very proud to... say. These are the things I’ll not forget a cherished memory. Now that I’m in the shelter without my family. They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe. But I didn’t know the difference between the old one and the new. The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug. So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug. They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside. This I didn’t understand, although I tried and tried. The walks stopped, one by one, they said they hadn’t time. I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime. My life became so lonely in the backyard, on a chain. I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane. So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why. They said I caused an allergy, and then they each kissed me goodbye. If I’d only had some training when I was a little pup, I wouldn’t have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up. ‘You only have one day left, I heard the worker say. Does that mean I have a second chance? Do I go home today? -Anonymous See more

12.01.2022 HELP NEEDED FOR A MURRAY OWNER..... LOOKING FOR A DOG WALKER!! Hi all, I am looking for a dog walker in the Mornington area that would be more than happy to walk a female Murray on a casual and by need basis. This will not be a paid position. The lady owner lives by herself, has just been diagnosed with cancer, has to go through the processes associated with it (chemo/operations/etc) and is very worried about her little girl Murray not getting out for a walk, so I'm trying to... find someone who lives close to her that will help her out with her Murray while she is not able to do it with walking and maybe feeding and other things at times but can't give definite day and/or times to anyone as the owner has no idea herself how she is going to feel throughout her procedures.. If anyone can offer help (more than one offer would be fantastic) please let me know what you can help with, hw close you live and your availability. Let the Murray world come together to help out this lady and this Murray... Thanks everyone.. See more

05.01.2022 There is always a lot of talk, phone calls, pm's, posts and replies to post on many Murray pages relating to "How much are Murray pups" So let me address this q...uestion. At the moment Murray puppies are being sold anywhere from around a $1000 up to around $5000. I know, it's a HUGE gap in prices. The following is what everyone needs to take into account when asking for prices on Murray pups and these are the questions everyone should be asking and getting the paperwork to prove it. 1. How old is the Sire and the bitch? (ideal for the bitch between 2 and 6 years the Sire between 1 and 8 years) 2. Do you have the lineage of both the sire and the bitch? 3. If you do have the lineage, how far back does the lineage go? 4. Have both the sire and the bitch been hip and elbow scored? If not, why not? There is no way I would be buying any pup if BOTH parents are not hip and elbow scored see other posts on hip and elbow scores on this page) Now, I don't mean has the sire and/or bitch ever been taken to the vet and the vet looks at the dog in questions and says there is no problem with the hips or elbows. Hip and elbow scores are done by having a vet (not all vets are qualified to do the xray part of hip and elbow scores) do specific xrays under a general anaesthetic (very few are qualified to do them under sedation and to have a dog in the specific positions and not move at all to get satisfactory still position xrays, so my opinion would be at this stage that the dog needs to be under general anaesthetic) and then they send a digital copy of the xrays to a qualified scorer. There are only 4 qualified scorers in Australia and in which the ANKC recognize. They are as follows: Dr Roger Lavelle 80 Ashworths Road Lancefield. VIC. 3435. Telephone: 03 5429 1682 Email: [email protected] Dr Mariano Makara PO Box 634 Lane Cove. NSW. 1595. Telephone: 0416 051 002 Email: [email protected] Dr Jenny Richardson PO Box 3477 Broadway Nedlands LPO WA 6009 Telephone: 0417 911 246 Email: [email protected] Dr Ana Hayes PO Box 36 Vermont. VIC 3133. Telephone: 0400 874 741 Email: [email protected] To get a dog/bitch Hip and Elbow scored the price is anywhere from about $500 to $800 depending on the cost of what each individual vet charges for xrays and general anaesthetic. Dr Roger Lavelle and Dr Anna Hayes charge $100 per dog to do the scoring. 5. Have both the sire and bitches’ lines been DNA tested for genetic health issues and to show the Murray is pure and not crossed with another breed? 6. Does the Breeder supply a Breeder Health Declaration in writing? If not, why not? 7. Does the breeder supply a Canine Sale Guarantee and Health Declaration in writing? If not, why not? 8. Have the puppies been wormed at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks? What has been used? Is there any proof that this has been done? 9. Are the pups microchipped? This is law and every puppy purchased has to be microchipped. 10. Has the puppy had it's first vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age? Is there a vet card with the stickers in it from the vaccination ampules given? 11. Has the puppy had a full health check and has the vet filled out the vet card as proof this has happened? 12. Is the breeder a registered breeder? Who is the breeder registered with? (Just because a breeder is registered with a certain Association or Organization, does NOT mean that the breeder it doing all the correct things re: breeding. There are still some Associations/organizations who will continue to support some breeders just because they pay their membership fee (or not) each year. It does not mean that a breeder is a responsible breeder and covers all other questions written here) 13. Does the breeder have a source number? Source numbers are in VIC. and the other states have breeder numbers through the government. (a breeder registration and a breeder and/or source number are two completely separate numbers). 14. Does the breeder supply in writing details of food and feeding? If not, why not? 15. How much other information is provided to you from the breeder? ie. code of practice for keeping a dog, training guides, desexing guides, feeding guides etc etc? 16. Does the breeder supply puppy packs and if so, what is included in the puppy pack? 17. Where have the puppies been living at the breeders home? Inside, outside? How much socialization and handling have the puppies had from birth to when you pick the puppy up? Have you seen the living conditions of the puppy? 18. What has the breeder been feeding the puppy? Including dry food, wet food and milk? Does the breeder supply some food for the puppy when you pick puppy up? 19. Does the breeder start any training with the puppy? If so, which training? 20. Has the bitch been bred back to back litters? (back to back litters means that the bitch has had a litter when last on heat and now how another litter on her next on heat) When was the date of the previous litter? 21. Does the breeder get very short and sharp when you are asking all the above questions and/or deflects the questions stating things like it’s just a puppy/dog , there is no need for all of that (rubbish), I’ve been breeding for years with no problems, if you don’t want to buy the puppy, there are plenty of others who will etc etc etc. So remember, I did not say all the above needs to be done by any breeder, I said to keep all the above into account when asking for prices on Murray pups. It's totally up to the buyer on what is expected from the pup and the breeder. If the breeder is/has doing/done all of the above, the pups are going to be in a higher price bracket than for a pup who's breeder only does the bare minimum needed or doesn't do any of the above. My opinion, for what it's worth, comes back to the old saying, you get what you pay for. Before paying for your puppy and taking puppy home, strongly request that you require everything in writing regarding all of the above questions. Good luck to all looking for a Murray Puppy. 02.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF HIP AND ELBOW SCORES ON SIRES (DADS) AND DAMS(MUMS). Here is just one story as to the importance of EVERY Sire and Dam to be hip and elbow sco...red before breeding. As many have seen my pics in the past couple of weeks of my 7 year old girl Saede before and after her operation. Saede came to me as a "rehome". Saede was sold as a pup to a new Murray owner. She then was given back to the breeder it doesn't matter what the reason is/was) I was then asked if I wanted Saede. I agreed to do a meet and greet, fell in love, and became Saede's new Perfect New Forever Home. I noticed Saede had a few things which concerned me: 1. She had hair loss on her chest and backs of her legs 2. She was extremely stand offish (I have no better word..lol) towards men 3. She had a very slight limp on her left front leg. I have fixed concerns 1. and 2. and now I am dealing with number 3, hence her operation. Saede’s limp got worse over the years. The vet and I tried numerous things to fix Saede with everything from massage, heat packs, anti-inflammatory, pain killers, rest, confinement, injections, herbs etc etc etc but Saede continued to gradually get worse and I could see she was in pain. Next came xrays. The xrays had shown abnormalities in the elbow and I was told elbow dysplasia. I went and got another opinion which lead me to speaking with Dr Chris Preston of Pet and Emergency Specialist Centre in Malvern East (VIC) It turns out that Saede has Elbow and Shoulder Dysplasia which in turn now has arthritis. To put this in $$$$ perspective, it has cost me over $5,000 for vet, medication, xrays etc over the years and now over $5000 for xrays and operation. Yes, that is correct, over $10,000 to try to help the pain and problem, as there is no cure Saede will now have pain on and off for the rest of her life because of this. Saede is only 7 years old. Hip, Elbow and Shoulder Dysplasia is hereditary and genetic and can be prevented from not breeding from a Sire or Dam who have high Hip and Elbow scores. You may want to buy a cheaper puppy from a breeder who thinks it is unnecessary to pay for hip and elbow scores on the Sires and Dams but for the higher percentage of cheap puppy buyers they will be paying the costs for vets etc later in the cheap puppy’s life, or worse, won’t have the money to pay the vet, medication, xray and operation fees and will either give the dog in question up for rehoming, drop it at a rescue or worse, have it put down as the owners can’t afford it or, as I’ve been told previously, it’s cheaper to buy another dog rather than pay for their dogs’ medical expenses. My advice, NEVER, buy a puppy from any breeder (even if an Association or Organization recommend that breeder as a registered breeder) if the breeder does not do hip and elbow scores on both the Sire and the Dam (even if each are owned by separate people, each should be hip and elbow scored) and have the paperwork to prove it. In the Murray world, I know of only of 1 breeder who has all of his Sires and Dams hip and elbow scored, 1 who has the Dam scored and myself who have all my dogs/bitches scored. UPDATE I have just been advised there is another Sire who is also done :) There is a LOT of information regarding Hip and Elbow scores all over the internet, so I’ll let you do your own investigating.

01.01.2022 Good Evening all....I'd like to introduce you to Mocco...Mocco has been with me now for only 24 hours but I already feel like he is putting the feelers out for ...his Perfect New Forever Home......here are some of his pro's and con's He doesn't really like cats ATM He loves other dogs and loves to play He does pull on the lead at first as he is s excited but does calm down. He was walking in a harness and I tried a head halter today with great success. He sleeps inside, he is not looking for a home who want to kick him outside to sleep. He knows "sit" "stay" "wait" "listen" "watch" (although he is mostly to excited to "watch" ATM lol) He is a bit anxious at times when he isn't sure but soon settles down fast. He loves cuddles and kisses He loves playing ball but is sometimes reluctant to give the ball up. He is desexed but I'm guessing he was desexed before he was 12 months old as he still squats. (he was desexed at 6 months old says his paperwork) He is a very happy dog and like all Murrays, loves to be loved. He is good at call and recall although I haven't had him off lead out and about yet (I've had him for only 24 hours) He is ok around horses but gets excited with his voice He gets into the car ok and travels well He is really wanting to please which makes him great to continue his training. He is about 3 years old (was first sold through S.A pet shop ) so his D.O.B. is probably incorrect as was his breed description (springer spaniel x and/or labrador x) He is a very normal Murray River Retriever, young, desexed male. If you are interested, please phone me to discuss (he still needs more assessing over the coming days) 0401050645 anytime from Wednesday 02.12.2020 Please don't enquire by reply on this post as I may miss the reply...
