23.01.2022 C-section or vaginal birth- either way a powerful and empowered mum gave birth to human life I can't tell you how many times I've heard client's say- "I've had a caesarean, so my pelvic floor will be fine, right?".....not necessarily. Things to consider... You have carried a baby for 9 month's on your pelvic floor (trampoline)..hint it's the carrying time, more than the way you birthed which does the damage What weight was your baby? What number birth was this for you? What was the state of your pelvic floor prior to this pregnancy/ birth? If thing's aren't feeling quite right (after a vaginal or c-section birth)- book in an appointment, ask some questions you have been thinking about and let's get you back on track.

23.01.2022 I'll be using this one next time . As a mum we are entitled to some ammunition. Babies are a constant reminder of how much our pelvic floor is stressed during childbirth and how important ongoing pelvic floor exercises are! Do them...every...single...day If you don't know how to activate the PF correctly, book your consult now. It's never too late to start. #pelvicfloor

21.01.2022 A picture is worth a thousand words....a gentle reminder of the importance of pelvic floor exercises to help avoid the scenarios below

21.01.2022 R U OK day 2020 You won't regret asking the question....but you may regret NOT asking someone if they are ok. Check in on people, have those conversations (sometimes difficult conversations). You know what though YOU just might make the difference in that person's life

18.01.2022 'Back to basics' when it comes to strengthening the core after having a baby. What's involved, where to start and signs and symptoms which may indicate less than optimal functioning of the core/ pelvic floor. A segment of a chat I had the pleasure of having with the lovely Louise Hurley from Strong Mums: Mums and Bubs Fitness, Gosford and Central Coast Mums Fitness and Wellness... Chatting out all things core related and hoping to bring awareness and some guidance to mum's in the post natal period. As always, happy to answer specific questions you may have. Send them through to [email protected] or message through to this page. Thanks again Louise for inviting me to chat with your mum's from Central Coast Mums Fitness and Wellness https://youtu.be/8LWNeED7aec

13.01.2022 Wonderful and welcomed news for so many mum's and bubs An essential service which will be valued and appreciated by so many families in need. Keeping mum's and babies together is essential for strengthening the bond in the early postnatal period

13.01.2022 A good reminder for post natal mums to be thinking about intra-abdominal pressure and pelvic floor readiness before returning to high impact sport.

12.01.2022 In line with #WomensHealthWeek, this week is all about empowering women to be in tune with their bodies. The body goes through multiple changes during pregnancy and in the post natal period. It needs to be understood how these changes impact your body both in the short term and long term. -Learn how to activate your pelvic floor muscles correctly... -Understand what cues work best for you to activate these pelvic floor muscles - Engage your pelvic floor and core during exercise, but also understand what physical everyday activities strain your pelvic floor (such as lifting the pram, baby capsule etc) Don't be ashamed if you don't know how to activate these muscles or where to find them Book in for an assessment and act now to avoid ongoing issues.

10.01.2022 Let’s talk BACK PAIN There have been lot's of enquiries lately regarding early low back pain with pregnancy and ongoing back pain in the postnatal period. So let’s discuss..... Pregnancy related back pain and Postnatal back pain During pregnancy ligaments become more lax in preparation for birth (thank goodness for that or otherwise women would be in all sorts of problems)! Combine that with an increased load through the spine, a natural change in body posture thanks to the growing foetus , a waddling gait and the pelvic floor withstanding an increased loadis it any wonder back pain is a prevalent complaint of pregnant women and new mum's. The pelvic floor has been strained during the 9 month gestation period due to the growing foetus (think pushing down on a trampoline), and possibly sustained further strain through Stage 2 labour (pushing stage)Yes, c-section mum's, this does not mean you are exempt from pelvic floor weakening or abdominal separation, as the majority of the strain is due to the 9 month’s you’ve spent carrying your bub, and not the ‘labouring’ finale. Women can therefore be left with a weakened pelvic floor and a sub optimal functioning core- potentially resulting in ongoing back pain, further strain sustained to the pelvic floor due to inability to engage correctly and potential strain to the internal pelvic organs (bladder, bowel and uterus). So what can be done Engage your pelvic floor and learn how to activate the pelvic floor functionally- | Know how to engage your pelvic floor correctly Learn cues which work best for you to activate and engage the PF without breath holding Understand your baseline measurement (how long can you contract the pelvic floor for and how many reps can be sustained before fatiguing) decipher your limitations with regards to physical activity and know how to progress safely to avoid further damage Then there are the demanding postures and significant periods of time spent feeding your baby (up to 8-12 hours/ day (crazy I know!), bathing, cuddling/rocking and changing your baby which can lead to both low back pain and thoracic spine pain. Stay tuned for more on thoracic spine pain next post! If you are unsure how to locate or activate your PF, or you have concerns with incontinence (even the slightest leakage) or prolapse issues- please book in to be assessed by a women’s health physio to avoid further issues

06.01.2022 The #pelvicfloor muscles not only contribute to providing our lower back with support, they have many other roles which you may not be aware of. A good reminder in this article of the importance of pelvic floor #strength. Don't forget to work on your own today! http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au//how-your-pelvic-floor-/

04.01.2022 For many women this is a very common predicament they find themselves in...squeezing their legs together to avoid leaking when sneezing or coughing. Stress Incontinence is a form of urinary incontinence and occurs due to weakening of the pelvic floor muscles. Don't suffer in silence. This form of incontinence is treatable if you understand how to correctly activate your pelvic floor muscles ... Book your appointment now and start off the New Year doing something about your own health
