25.01.2022 ***UPDATE ON OWEN*** Gorgeous Owen went to get desexed today.... Unfortunately, while he was under anaesthetic the surgeon found that he had a few broken teeth, including the canine... this possibly occurred from the trauma that caused his broken and dislocated jaw.... So Owen also had to have dental surgery to remove all his damaged teeth. We were not expecting this but at least we know that once today is over Owen will feel as good as new. If you would like to help Owen with his unexpected dental surgery, you can do so by making a donation to: Name: Forever Home Pet Rescue Inc BSB: 062 300 ACC: 1046 4718 Reference: Owen OR PayPal: [email protected] (please pay as friends/family) ALL donations to Owen will go DIRECTLY to his care. All donations above $2 are tax deductible; please contact us if you would like a receipt. If you cant donate, can you please help by sharing this post and Owens photos? Remember what we always say...Sharing is Caring

24.01.2022 ***INDOOR CAT OR OUTDOOR CAT*** From first time kitten owners to seasoned cat companions, cat owners are divided whether or not cats should be allowed outdoors. Traditional beliefs that cats need freedom to roam are fading in the light of statistics that indicate the indoor cats have a longer life span and better health. Deciding whether or not a cat should be an indoors or outdoors animal is up to individual owners but the pros and cons provide substantial evidence toward ...Continue reading

20.01.2022 ***UPDATE ON TANK*** Do you remember Tank? Tank arrived in our care at the beginning of August.... He was soooo fat that he was unable to walk and had severe difficulty breathing. We quickly discovered that Tank is without doubt the laziest cat in town and that he does not like to exercise so weight loss is definitely a challenge. We are happy to tell you that Tank has lost a whopping 200grams in 3 weeks!! Tank has consulted a Feline Nutritionist who designed his diet plan and Tank has also recovered from flu. These combined with his weight loss has allowed Tank to catch his breath and Tank is now able to breathe normally. Tank will continue on his diet and despite his protests we will continue to ensure Tank exercises to reach his goal weight. Tank remains a very high risk of a heart attack or a stroke but we are happy that Tank is now on the road to a healthy lifestyle.... and he loves a chin scratch!!

20.01.2022 IT’S A SAD SATURDAY..... We are sad... We are sad when we tell you all that dear old Margaret passed away in the early hours of the morning.... Margaret, you were not with us very long but in that time you had a full belly and a comfy bed and lots of cuddles. RIP Margaret...Run free in the catnip pastures of Rainbow Bridge.

19.01.2022 ***INTRODUCING DOGS TO CATS*** Whether you already have a dog and are considering getting a cat, or vice versa, it is very important to think about their first introduction. By letting a loose cat and an off-leash dog meet each other in an open room for the first time, you are probably setting up both animals to fail. Instead, plan ahead and take your time. 19.01.2022 ***EMERGENCY RESCUE INCOMING*** On Tuesday we received this email from the local council pound: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello rescuers,... We received a 14 year old stray cat at the facility this afternoon. She has a large mass on her neck. We are unsure if this mass is an abscess or a tumour on lymph node. The vets have taken a FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration) to place under the microscope and will get back to us once they have results. She is microchipped, however we have had no luck contacting an owner at this point in time. The individual who took her to the vet initially has said online that the cat has been hanging around for an extended period of time. If you are able to assist, please contact the facility. Thank you, ***Photos might be distressing*** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We were shocked to find out that by the time the pound closed today this old lady still had no rescue willing to help her.... This means that she has been at the pound for two full days without comprehensive vet treatment.... this is unacceptable to us so we are organising for her to come into our care ASAP!! We cannot leave this old lady alone in her tine of need. Can you help us help her? If you would like to help this old lady get the care she needs, you can do so by making a donation to: Name: Forever Home Pet Rescue Inc BSB: 062 300 ACC: 1046 4718 Reference: Old Lady OR PayPal: [email protected] (please pay as friends/family) ALL donations made to Old Lady will go DIRECTLY to her care. 19.01.2022 Who does it better??

19.01.2022 ***THERE ARE SO MANY..... Late last week we received this email from the pound..... RESCUE NEEDED... Hello rescuers, We have just received a stray cat that is urgently in need of rescue under duty of care. He is extremely emaciated, dehydrated, pale gums, mucky eyes, dental disease and is struggling to stand. Overall he is in very poor condition He did begin eating food as soon as the bowl was placed in front of him. If you are able to assist, please contact the facility as soon as possible. Thank you. This email was soon followed by a notification from the pound informing us that a rescue had volunteered to take this urgent boy into their care. Imagine our surprise when three days later we were again contacted by the pound but this time it was to request us to take this boy into our care as the original rescue had still not picked him up. We were shocked to discover that he was still waiting for veterinary care. We rushed to pick him up and within an hour we were on our way to the vet clinic. Weve named this boy NEVILLE Neville is a sweet, loving boy. He purrs with the slightest touch or attention given to him... he loves people and company.. Sadly, Neville is a very, very sick boy. Neville has multiple rotten teeth that make it extremely difficult for him to eat. He is severely dehydrated and underweight, Neville currently weighs just 2.1 kgs. Neville is very lethargic and weak. He has a severe flea infestation causing him the poor condition of his coat as well as severe anaemia. Between his poor nutrition and anaemia Neville is so weak that he can only stand for a short time. Neville has now commenced subcutaneous fluids every 4 hours. He eats small meals (approx a tablespoon at a time) every 2 hours and antibiotics. Neville has been worm and flea treated. We are waiting for the results of extensive blood tests to plan how best proceed with Nevilles care. As always, our care plan will be in consultation with our magnificent vet and will ensure the best quality of life for Neville. If you would like to help Neville with his ongoing care, you can do so by making a donation to: Name: Forever Home Pet Rescue Inc BSB: 062 300 ACC: 1046 4718 Reference: Neville OR PayPal: [email protected] (please pay as friends/family) ALL donations made to Neville will go DIRECTLY to his care. All donations above $2 are tax deductible; please contact us if you would like a receipt. If you cant donate, can you please help by sharing this post and Nevilles photos? 17.01.2022 ***UPDATE ON SICK BOY, TOSHIKI*** After 9 days in the intensive care unit of the vet clinic Tashiki has made some improvement. Tashiki’s throat is less swollen and he has finally started to eat small amounts of food on his own but only when he is given special medication to increase his appetite.... Sadly, Toshiki has lost half his body weight so we are hoping that he soon starts eating by himself. Toshiki remains congested and sometimes becomes short of breath. Tashiki remains on an IV drip and on 6 different medications!! Today the vet nurses informed us it takes them 45mins every time they give Tashiki his medications!! Throughout all this Tashiki remains a loving, sweet purring machine who loves a cuddle.. He has won the hearts of all the vet nurses who are caring for him around the clock. Unfortunately, because his pneumonia is not fully cured and combined with his lack of appetite and severe weight loss and complex medication regime Toshiki will need to remain in the intensive care unit for another week or so. It amazes us that despite everything Toshiki has had to endure he remains a purring machine full of love to give. If you would like to help Toshiki, you can do so by making a donation to: Name: Forever Home Pet Rescue Inc BSB: 062 300 ACC: 1046 4718 Reference: Toshiki OR PayPal: [email protected] (please pay as friends/family) ALL donations made to Toshiki will go DIRECTLY to his care. All donations above $2 are tax deductible; please contact us if you would like a receipt. If you can’t donate, can you please help by sharing this post and Toshiki’s video? 16.01.2022 Excuse the language.... but I think from now on this is the response were going to give when people contact us about surrendering their cat because theyre having a baby...

15.01.2022 11th November at the 11th hour..... LEST WE FORGET.. Thousands of cats were despatched to the trenches during WW1 to keep rodent numbers down and act as early warning detectors for mustard gas. ... So many gave great comfort to the troops as companions and mascots . But how many cats survived we will never know . The cats of World War 1 had significant role in all the campaigns and we must honour their bravery too . Give some thought to all the kitties who served in World War 1 who were a battalion of the finest and who never fired a gun . Whether hunting rodents out at sea or loyal friends to men these many cats had vital roles time and time again including saving food. A common sight in trenches deep were mice and rats but the cats kept the numbers down and soldiers had a special bond with many of these cats. Many were in fact treasured mascots. Five hundred thousand cats were sent to serve in the Great War. Some detected mustard gas, whilst others were off shore. Here are some of the feline heroes - Togo was the Dreadnought’s cat , The Swan had their lad Ching Pincher was the Vinex’s mog, It was luck they hoped they’d bring. ‘Martinpuich’ was aptly named by The 9th battalion chaps. Pitouchi was the orphaned kit who’d survived on army scraps. Spark Plug ,Tabby and many more were companions to the troops. The feline unsung heroes, those cats who became recruits. We will never truly realise just what these cats went through. So spare a thought and give some thanks for what they did for you.... Lest We Forget..... https://youtu.be/W7IjGo0fnso

14.01.2022 ***WE ARE IN LOOOOOVVVEEE A few days ago we told you the story of a white cat left behind in the backyard when hes owner moved out three weeks ago.... Well.... 24 hours in our care and look at him!! We took him to the vet and he loves the ladies and the ladies love him! Actually, every female hes met has fallen under hes spell... So what did we name him? Casanova Casanova or Cas to those of us who are already in love with him is an approx 3year old Turkish Angora x who loves getting belly rubs and enjoys late nights cuddling on the sofa. Unfortunately, Casanova will need to have dental surgery to remove some rotten teeth but we wont be organising this until next week. Casanova is eating well.... he loves all food.... and is showing no signs of oral pain. Casanova is also suffering from a mild case of flu so he has started antibiotics and will have dental surgery once hes over the flu. If you would like to help Casanova get the dental care he needs, you can do so by making a donation to: Name: Forever Home Pet Rescue Inc BSB: 062 300 ACC: 1046 4718 Reference: Casanova OR PayPal: [email protected] (please pay as friends/family so we dont have to pay fees) ALL donations made to Casanova will go DIRECTLY to his care. 13.01.2022 It’s not just dogs..... it’s cats as well....

12.01.2022 ***THIS IS SUZIE*** Suzie is one of our Triple Emergency Rescue from last week. Suzie is suffering a severe skin reaction on her face, paws and abdomen. ... We dont know what is causing Suzies skin to react like this but we do know that we have to help her. Suzie is not itchy and doesnt scratch but she has difficulty walking because her skin bleeds as she moves. Suzie has been vet checked and commenced antibiotics and pain relief. The vet has collected multiple skin samples for testing. Suzie has also commenced a diet elimination program to determine if she is allergic to any particular kind of food. Suzie has been the perfect patient, she is a real lady She loves a cuddle and loves to sit in the sun. If you would like to help Suzie, you can do so by making a donation to: Name: Forever Home Pet Rescue Inc BSB: 062 300 ACC: 1046 4718 Reference: Suzie OR PayPal: [email protected] (please pay as friends/family) ALL donations made to Suzie will go DIRECTLY to their care. 12.01.2022 ***UPDATE ON SWEET NEVILLE*** We received the final test results for Neville. Sadly, it was terrible news...... Neville was diagnosed with Nonregenerative Anaemia. Anemia is classified as regenerative or nonregenerative. In a regenerative anemia, the bone marrow responds appropriately to the decreased number of red blood cells by increasing production of new blood cells. In a nonregenerative anemia, the bone marrow responds inadequately to the increased need for red blood cells, ie; the bone marrow does not increase production of new blood cells. This is an aggressive terminal disease. We had decided to provide Neville with palliative care and made the decision to humanely euthanise him when the time came. However, Neville being the angel that he was decided not to put us in that position and passed peacefully in his sleep last night. He was in bed with his carer and she found him this morning when he woke up. Neville had won all our hearts... we fell in love with him instantly.... and to be honest, this one hurts Who wouldve thought that in just a few days we could love him so much. We take comfort in knowing that in the time he was with us Neville was spoiled rotten and got to experience love. We hope he knew he was special.

12.01.2022 ***UPDATE ON SUZIE*** A few weeks ago Suzie came into our care with a severe allergic reaction to something.... We are still trying to work out what exactly Suzie is allergic to but check out what good vet care, medication and TLC can do!!... Suzie has been in our care for 3 weeks... Thank you to all of you who have supported Suzie on her journey to recovery......thanks to your ongoing support Suzie is well and truly on the road to recovery!!!!

05.01.2022 ***HAPPY PURREVER AFTER*** Do you remember Lance? Lance came to us with two broken legs and a broken hip.... he was skinny and in pain. ... Well..... look at him now!! New life....New name... So Lance is now named Bob. Bob is a much loved and valued family member... Yesterday we received this great letter from Bob ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey I'm Bob. I've now realised how much I love life and toys. My gosh I love toys. I'm talking to mum and my sister and brother so much too! I come running now when they call out "Bobby". I use steps and ramps everywhere in my house so I can get up and down without hurting my legs. I fall asleep in mum's arms laying on my back getting tummy tickles after I have kissed every inch of her face of course! At some point I go and see my sister in her bed but she moves a lot so I end up in my brothers bed by morning. The minute mum's alarm goes off I wait at the bathroom door to sit under the heat lights. I've learnt "bobby up", "bobby down", "bobby come" and "bobby no" and I am so loved. The big dogs outside make me hiss at them through the screen but they lose interest pretty quick and I can lay in my favourite sunny spot. Life is grand! Adopt a pet like me, like my mum and brother and sister, you'll not regret the decision! Bob Alcorn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We are so beyond happy to get such a happy update from Bob himself!! This is why we do what we do....

05.01.2022 ***THIS IS STEVEN*** Steven is one of our Triple Emergency Rescue from last week. Steven is a super sweet, 7 year old smoocher who is suffering from a severe case of cat flu....
