17.01.2022 Learning anything new can be daunting. As an adult, we have been conditioned through school and employment that failure or sucking at something when you try it is meet with ridicule. This can lead to ‘fear of failure’, and prevents you from trying or starting anything new. Yet, that is how humans fundamentally learn. We try, we fail, we readjust, we try again until we get it. If you are reading this, then you have gone through that process to learn to read.... Jiu Jitsu is a constant course of learning. We try things, we often fail when putting it into effect for the first time, but through constant effort and readjustment, we succeed. So are you letting your fear of not being good enough, fit enough, strong enough, or coordinated enough from stopping you trying something new.... we’ll give yourself a reality check. We all suck when we first start. But our coaches and mat mentors have all been there, and will support you through your failings, just like they were. Get your butt in the mats. Embrace that it will be challenging, that you will make mistakes, that you will initially ‘suck’. Once you get over your fear of failure... you can then start to learn.
