From box braids to dreadlocks and afro shape-ups, many of the mo...st iconic black hairstyles can be found in drawings, engravings and hieroglyphs from Ancient Egypt. When the painted sandstone bust of the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti was rediscovered in 1913, her regal beautyaccentuated by a towering hairstyle was undeniable and she quickly became a global icon of feminine power. Or what about, when; a French ethnologist and his team found a Stone Age rock painting in the Tassili Plateau of the Sahara. Dating back to 3500 BCE, it showed a woman with cornrows feeding her child from 3500 BCE. And, in a Nigerian clay sculpture from 500 BCE, a figure from the Nok civilization has cornrows etched onto its head. Braids have been used to identify the marital status, wealth, power and religion of the tribes of Africa for centuries. Starting with the Namibia tribe, as well as the Zulu tribes! Many, (such as myself) view braids as an expression of ART!!! Whether it be the parting or the braids themselves, each complement each other to form masterpieces!!! 13.01.2022 PERM LOCS - 6 months on. These locs were created with the perm method at the beginning of July. The client had existing balayage, but with a gentle perm and great upkeep, these locs are thriving.... and the balayage is still there!

Accepting natural hair, isn’t just for our daughters. It’s for our sons too. 02.01.2022 At For Lox Sake we specialise in both Crochet AND Perm Dreadlocks, we are also experienced in all hair types, and know that what is good for one client may not be ideal for the next, either from a personal aspect or a professional one. There can sometimes be quite a stigma from some people in regards to perm locs, with the belief that Crochet locs are ‘natural’. Neither perm nor crochet are in fact natural as they are both man made. Crochet are definitely Chemical free, but Natural, no. We do not believe in putting down one method as opposed to the other , as 1. We are experienced in both methods, and 2. We know that both methods create beautiful results when done correctly. Our founder is internationally trained,her work is tricholigist approved, and she has worked the world over, with more than 30 years experience.
