We were thrilled to welcome Amari again in 2019 and were impressed by her growth as an artist, her humble personality, professionalism and mesmerising performance quality. Equally enthralled, the judging panel awarded her... the prestigious Outstanding Female Dancer title for her solo Camelando. My experience in SSD has been full of emotions and opportunities. It has allowed me to grow and develop in my knowledge and passion for dance and has truly taught me to always persevere and treasure every single opportunity that is given to you. I am entirely grateful for this competition and the opportunities it has given me and many young people across Australia to share the beautiful artform of dance. 16.01.2022 Meet the #dreamteam behind NARCIFIXION Jai Pyne is a Sydney based composer, producer and songwriter. He graduated from AFTRS in 2012 and has since fostered his passion for making music for film and moving pictures and contemporary dance. He was the driving force of Sydney indie band The Paper Scissors for the better part of a decade before turning his attention to composing. With his unique musical voice, he brings a strong aesthetic that he has developed over his career as a... multi-disciplinary creative. He has always enjoyed inhabiting the fringes of art and pop, attempting to merge the best bits of each into his work. Jai and Anton have collaborated on three projects together Supermodern Dance of Distraction 2012, Despotic Tendencies 2018 and NARCIFIXION 2019. Steve Hendy is a Sydney based lighting designer and programmer. In his creative practice, Steve’s designs have encompassed theatre, dance, music theatre, and architecture. He aims to support and express the piece’s narrative through light. He enjoys exploring the use of form and shadow. Steve’s design credits include; The Chat co-created by J R Brennan and David Woods at Sydney Festival (2019), Despotic Tendencies (film) co-directed by Gavin Jarrett and Anton (2018), Enter Ophelia directed by John Kachoyan at La Mama Theatre (2018) and touring to Canberra and regional Victoria (2019). In his programming role, Steve has worked closely with leading lighting designers on productions at Bangarra Dance Theatre, Belvoir St Theatre, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Sydney (2019), Bell Shakespeare, and Sydney Festival. Steve is a graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production) (Degree with Honours). @jaidanielpyne

Billy took home the Best Male Dancer Award. Since then, Billys dance career has blossomed and he continues to perform both nationally and internationally. FORM is thrilled to have Video Artist/ Projection Designer/ Dance Filmmaker, Sam James, as part of the production team for Sharp Short Dance this year. Sam will offer mentorship to SSD participants, sharing his immense knowledge on dance film making during a webinar and Q&A session. Participants will also be able to seek his advice about more specific queries they may have about their project before their final video... submission is due. Sams Bio: Samuel James has been a projection designer for contemporary performance companies and independent dancers for twenty five years. He has collaborated on more than 250 performances, ranging from works premiering in the major Australian Festivals to developments with experimental, independent companies. He has received Australia Council New Media and Visual Arts grants for his independent work and participated in international residencies, developing and presenting performative video works. In 2006 he won Best Dance Film at the Australian Dance Awards for a project with dancer Julie-Anne Long. He has presented numerous large scale exhibitions and holds an MFA Research on Digital Animism in 2012.
