20.01.2022 Very saddened to share the news of the passing of my uncle Raman Singh from Fiji. Both he and I followed in my grandfather’s footsteps by entering politics. But Raman has been a strong advocate his whole life for the people of Fiji. Our family grieve his passing and will miss his zest for life. RIP kaka.

16.01.2022 Happy lunar new year! Hoping the Year of the Rat will be full of exciting surprises and happy days.

16.01.2022 The impact of Covid-19 has been devastating to the most vulnerable including these migrant workers. We need govts and businesses to come together to support those that we will want to help rebuild our economies.

16.01.2022 Happy International Women’s Day!

14.01.2022 There's a large number of temporary visa holders in Australia who, due to Covid-19, have lost their jobs in hospitality and tourism but are ineligible for Federal Govt assistance. They have helped keep the industry and our economy going so now we need to give them some support back. Great to see Attica restaurant doing just that. Thanks Zoe Daniel for reporting on the plight of this group of people in our community.

14.01.2022 Happy Holi to all my subcontinent friends. Wishing you good health and happiness during this uncertain time.

14.01.2022 Congratulations Kamala Harris!! #VP

13.01.2022 New Zealand has become a climate leader.

13.01.2022 Walk Free’s ground-breaking global report reveals the odds are stacked against girls before they even born. 29 million women and girls are victims of modern slavery and 136 counties have failed to legislate against child and forced marriage.

11.01.2022 Vale Ruth Ginsburg. A trailblazer for gender equality and human rights. We have so much to thank her for. She will be greatly missed. #RBG

09.01.2022 A year since Australia established a Modern Slavery Act, so am sharing my speech from this landmark legislation to #endslavery Two-thirds of the 40 plus million people trapped in slavery worldwide are in the Indo-Pacific region and, unbeknown to most Australians, many are stuck in the global supply chains of everyday products that are purchased in Australia like the clothes we wear! While I’m pleased that for many of the leading fashion brands in Australia, transparency is... becoming the norm, many of the women who make Australia’s clothes still earn less than $1 an hour. No person wants to purchase goods tainted by slavery. No business wants slavery in its supply chains. Our consumption drives this industry which means our actions can create change for these workers. We have the purchase power to demand ethical treatment of garment workers; Australian fashion retailers can work to change this system; and our Modern Slavery Act will help business to identify slavery and stop it in its tracks.

09.01.2022 Meanwhile the International Court of Justice at The Hague handed down a decision against Myanmar over its military’s brutal treatment of the Rohingya. I visited the Rohingya after they had fled and arrived in refugee camps in Bangladesh. I witnessed one of the most devastating humanitarian and human rights disasters. The Katupalong camp has over 600,000 refugees in just 13 square kms, nearly half were children under 12. Yet I saw the best of humanity. Support from govts and aid agencies and each other. My fear of women and children being trafficked has become a reality. After fleeing horrific violence in Myanmar, the future for these vulnerable people remains uncertain.

07.01.2022 Looking forward to reading the insights on gender equality from these female leaders in this new book. Thanks Julia!

07.01.2022 'Delhi residents are stunned by how blue the sky really is as a strict lockdown cuts back drastically on air pollution'. Despite the tragic nature of this pandemic on people's lives, social movement and our health system, there seems to be a part of the world that is breathing. At the end of this, the question is how will we live? Will we go back to the old ways of living or seek these blue skies once again?

06.01.2022 Incredible donation and practical support from Minderoo Foundation.

04.01.2022 A global partnership of donors, including Australia, and the Gates Foundation came together to contribute $2.6 billion yesterday to help #endpolio Incredible progress has been made and polio cases have reduced 99% since 1988 but we need #onelastpush to wipe out polio.

02.01.2022 The bravery of our fire crew is astounding. Despite the extreme danger and devastation they keep on keeping on. #Australiaonfire #staysafe

01.01.2022 Fantastic to see these New Zealand businesses sign an Open Letter for a process for a Modern Slavery Act. No business wants slavery in their supply chain. But it’s hidden nature means they are complicit. A reporting mechanism is the start to turn this around.

01.01.2022 What a shame Malcolm Turnbull didn’t say and do all this when he was PM.
